There are some intriguing 'top 6' head to heads in the first two months and United have got away relatively lightly during this period and have already come out on top in the first battle. While yes, we know everybody plays each other twice, the psychological advantage of getting an early lead in the league has to be a good thing. Last season, every time we had a chance to capitalise on the games going on around us, we somehow managed to feck things up. Hopefully we can make the most of the start to the season we have this time round. Although the typical banana skins are usually your Wolves, Burnley, Leicester type of games, with the top 6 games, we know at least one of them are guaranteed to drop points. We have:
11 Aug - Manchester United v Chelsea
17 Aug - Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur (Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United)
24 Aug - Liverpool v Arsenal (Manchester United v Crystal Palace)
01 Sep - Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur (Southampton v Manchester United)
22 Sep - Chelsea v Liverpool (West Ham United v Manchester United)
30 Sep - Manchester United v Arsenal
We could potentially be first or second come October. Arsenal clearly have the toughest start and could possibly be 9 or 10 points off the top after the first two months (cue meltdown). We just have to hope that Spurs can do everyone a favour today against the Berties and we do the business on Monday. I reckon we will beat Arsenal at the end of September and Chelsea do have a chance to stay in contention with their early season fixtures.
If we're not at least top 3 at beginning of October and within 3 points maximum from top spot, I would be very disappointed.
Where do you guys see us ending up?
