Becomes more of an issue once they’re both retired perhaps - “Ronaldo was a great footballer”

Should one of them be referred to with a first name / surname / prefix?

Cristiano Ronaldo? Portuguese Ronaldo?
Ronaldo Nazario? Fat Ronaldo?? Brazilian Ronaldo?

To avoid confusion, who should get priority over the title “Ronaldo”? The one who came first? The one who came along and won all those Ballon D'ors?

Who did you think of when you saw this thread title?

As long as no one uses the cringey "CR7" it's all good.

I say Ronaldo for the Brazilian and Cristiano for the Portuguese.

I hate the whole fat Ronaldo, or real Ronaldo bollocks that people say.

Lately I call Ronaldo, R9 due to it being faster to type.

Isn't Cristiano Ronaldo known as Cristiano Ronaldo? I don't if there is an actual issue outside of people that randomly call him Ronaldo but do you want to interact with these people?

Fat Ronaldo because he looked overweight even during his playing days at La Liga.

Everyone knows he is Fat Ronaldo. I've never referred to them any other way. Ronaldo & Fat Ronaldo.

I wonder what the age cut off is for distinguishing between the two.

If I see Ronaldo I immediately think Cristiano, Brazilian Ronaldo wouldn’t even cross my mind. Think it’s probably the same for most of the younger* generation.

Just say the Ronaldo that won a Champions League. We'll know who you mean.

Ronaldo is Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo is Cristiano Ronaldo.

If some player called Edward Romario in the future becomes amazing, I’m not going to go back and revise what I call the original Romario. The new one will be Edward Romario, or ER11.
