Italian teams have had a resurgence in the last few years, as they largely fell away in recent times baring Mourinho's inter. But one thing i noticed is that during this largely barren period, they never seemed to spend large sums of money, but they managed to get decent players and loans on the cheap regularly. Contrast that today, and you have the big italian teams spending large sums of cash most windows. Can anyone summarise what's happening here?

juventus owned by FIAT

Both Milans owned by rich chinese

Napoli owned by a rich italian

Basically they're all owned or invested in by rich people... like most other big European clubs.

Anyway it's impressive how, despite Serie A have spent £ 1 bln more than La Liga in the last 5 years:

the gulf in quality between the two leagues is still pretty big.. The most impressive thing is the Premier League's balance compared to any other league though
