I'm going with Australia, 'cos of the sheer strength they have in every department in their squad...

Nah, they just beat Pakistan...not saying much at all considering they doctored the pitches to such a large extent. They will do it again for the WC, no doubt, but these pitches will suit Australia just as well. ALso, SA's selection policy is crap. They left out Graeme Smith - their best young batsmen. They also took people like Donald and Klusner who are in solely based on reputation and not on form. Living in SA, I can tell you, the team is hype up by the media who think that they are the cat's own whiskers, but in actual fact, Australia will cane them.

My choice is WestIndies..cos in a Sports poll conducted across 15 big countries across Africa favourite sports among the locals(black kids: sorry to use this word...) are
1)Football
2)Cricket
3) Rugby...
.What the kids need is a hero which can promote the sport in a big way......So if Ntini,gibbs and
ofcourse Lara performs it would be a great advertisement for the game in Africa as well for
the next World Cup in WestIndies.....

i think they maybe a problem with this world cup... the team that bats first will win....as there's too much lateral movement when the lights go on.. perhaps there shouldn't be any day-nighters.

i think these four are the best one day sides in the world.

India doesn't perform well away from home.... and you never can tell with Pakistan.... so logically Aus and SA are the best bets...


(SA only coz they are playing at home....their middle order is crap - actually don't think a home side has won the WC, so if they do win it will be first..)

It's a close one....Probably Australia...but SA will put a good fight....India will reach the semis ...and Pak or Nz..in the other semis.....

The best match will probably India vs Pakistan on March 3rd....should be a cracker....hope the losing team doesn't start a war..

Must admit I also think the Kiwi's will do well. Not sure they will win as it's a cup competition and anything can happen on a given day (especially the potentially ropey conditions for the day/night matches) but they must be worth a punt as I think they will have quite high odds.

Aussie's are obvioulsy the best side on paper but one day cricket sometimes throws up the odd suprise or two. Any of about 5/6 teams can beat each other on a given day.

This is true but as mentioned anything can happen on a given day and i agree with dans and 007 that New Zealand have a great chance.

If England qualifies for the supersix it will have a good chance to reach the semis.But will

Replace India with New Zealand and you're right, these are the best four one day teams at the moment. Would have been Sri Lanka but they were awful, absolutely awful, in their recent tour to the south of Africa.

last year is last year. The overall statisticss aren't exactly on our side exactly, choking against the aussies seems to be a national pasttime in every sport...
