Why don't refs use a hover board, segway or something similar?

Refs don't need to run around so much, they aren't playing the sport they are officiating. So why aren't refs using some kind of device to get around quick, saving their physical energy and giving them more mental energy to make better decisions?

The only question is, which vehicle is best?

the ball rolls quite a lot so they wouldn’t see a great deal… mostly just grass.

I'd like to see them drive around the pitch in really loud dune buggies (without silencers), running over players who are too slow to react: this would make clubs actively seek out really rapid players in all positions, thus rendering the likes of Maguire useless (or flattened).

The most realistic scenario may be little cars (that can be advertised and sold in real life) they drive around. Maybe the players would then start to drive around too to minimize injuries. e-cars obviously.

The image of a spider cam-esque John Moss flying around on strained wires which slowly sag lower and lower under his enormous paunch over 90 mins is brilliant. If a game goes to extra time his gut will be leaving a furrow behind him as he skims across the turf.

Why not just robots instead of human beings? AI has gotten to the point where robots could take the pitch and call the game as it really is without any of the biases of human beings. No modern robot would have fecked up the alleged handball call against Rashford, right?

In all seriousness, I reckon that most of the major calls can be done with the same accuracy (if not higher) if the referee was watching the game on a tv screen rather than being on the pitch. It's more common to have situations where players are obstructing the referees' view on the pitch than situations where the TV doesn't allow us to see what actually happens in a situation and where having eyes on the ground would solve that particular incident (in which case we would have replays and VAR anyway).

Get each player to stand on a movable platform. Managers can then take turns to push each platform to either reposition them or interact with the ball. Goalkeepers would have large poles attached to them instead, obviously.

Would probably see less fouls as well.
