So the general consensus now is that top 4 is not realistic? :houllier:
No chance of top 4. We’re sitting on our hands despite our worst season ever.

We’ve seen enough transfer windows to know that the club is doing feck all currently.

Agree

And I can’t get over it. Despite every joke result last season and every reason to lose hope with the club, I thought at least they’ll come roaring out in the Summer to reshape the squad and have a complete overhaul

And again we’re one of the last PL teams to sign anyone

And they’re doing absolutely nothing. Obviously won’t have a signing before the Pre Season tour now. They fly off in about 3 weeks.

The lack of ambition is infuriating

Aren’t the fixtures released tomorrow? We could do with an easy start to try and get some wins and confidence in us. Very interested to see who ten Hag fancy’s in his starting line up and which players will actually improve under him.

Even if we wouldn't sign a single player that would still be an outrageously stupid statement.
Don’t think so when city, Liverpool, Chelsea and spurs are there. I’m not expecting ten hag to work miracles.

I’m with you. Those choosing to believe that the club is going about it’s business quietly are the cutest. This club is not capable of that.

We’re waiting to see if Barca drop their ask price for de jong, then we’ll think about what we might want to do next. There is no ambition and it’s not dramatic to say any of the above. This summer more than ever was the one to get a lot of business done. We’ve written that off already.

The reality is probably the old ‘want to let ten hag assess the squad first’ but the club knows this won’t be palatable.

Mctominay is going to improve massively imo, might actually look like a professional footballer.

No easy games for Utd nowadays.

No we won't be ready. Sadly I'd be willing to bet we have a very very weak team next season.

Club just isn't serious at all

Eh if we sign nobody than it would be a bleak situation. Decent enough starting 11 with absolutely feck all depth or competition for places. We would have a chance, but we'd be definite outsiders.

I guess never say never, but top 4 is extremely unlikely imo, as we stand.
"No chance" implies that we're predicted to finish something like 10th or lower. Right now we're the 6th best team at worst, though bookies have Arsenal below us for some reason. Making top 4 as the 6th best team on paper is hardly a miracle. And that's with no signings made, which will obviously not be the case. If ten Hag is as good as he is, it's not that big of an expectation to get around 75 points in the league with this team and that's almost always enough for 4th. And like I've mentioned before, we're gonna get new players too.

I doubt we’ll sign anyone until the last week of the window, and hence be woefully underprepared for our first couple games. De Jong isn’t going to happen and never actually has been close to happening. The man himself has been delighted to shut it down at every available opportunity. Mike Verweij has said that Timber is very close to deciding that he will stay. Eriksen? Hopefully. Antony? Cold. Pau? Cold. Nunez? Gone. Even Malacia has gone cold. Vitinha now? Jeez.

We’ll probably start like Van Gaal’s 2014-15 team, where we had Blackett, Fletcher etc starting our first few games as once again, the Glazers screwed us by only signing Herrera and Shaw before the season began. We inevitably messed them up, causing the Glazers to panic buy a few superstars, including Falcao fresh off an ACL tear. I’m just praying for an easy start to the season. Or at least as easy as possible.

How did you actually conclude that ?

Its all over Twitter that Mason Greenwood is back in the squad for pre season. Anyone got any news?
Yes charges have been dropped, had to wait for CPS to process everything. Interestingly enough he and his girlfriend never split up and have been living together this whole time.

Seems like Glazers have thought feck it, mid-table is fine, don't worry about getting Champions League and the rewards, but don't need to spend big on players. Better Business sense if you don't care about football.

Well, I reckon top 6 would be good enough for next season. We are looking for long term project with ETH, another season of set back may actually be blessing in disguise.

With the departures the club is already worst personnel wise than last season. The slow movement in the market gives off the feeling theres no forward progression. I do think ETH will do well if the conditions are there for him to succeed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that is their current thinking. They are hated as owners, the fans literally despise them and as an asset the club have lost a lot of value due to so many failures.

So they've probably looked at the financial situation and thought it's not worth the investment and trying to restructure more debt and take on extra risk when the investments theyve made have failed to pay off. The club will always generate enough revenue to satisfy their needs, whether the club finishes 6th or 10th, the fans will still keep coming and spending money on merch. As you say they are business people and the current uncertain economic future has probably changed their ambitions.

The point of appointing ETH, is to evolve our team, but not revolution.
Which means he is going to evolve the likes of McFred, Rashford, Martial, Maguire, Shaw etc
Which also means, we don't really need any new signings at all this summer.
We already have ETH here, to improve all our players.
So, we are ready as ever!

This may be satire but it's also the genuine thought process of the men running our club I fear.

We have finished top 4 twice in the last 3 seasons tbf so it's not that silly of a shout.

The squad isn't as bad as people are making out. We were just rudderless last season with everyone falling out and no proper direction.

Add in Frenkie and somebody like Dumfries to that team and it looks a lot healthier.

Sadly not.

We're pratting about over 10million for a proven, quality midfielder (De Jong) when we really should have had the deal over the line a week ago, so we can chase other players for key areas. It's exactly why we won't be prepared come season start.

Mucking about over 5-10million fees for two weeks when we should just take the price requested and offer abit below or leave it. None of this 20/ 30mil below valuation haggling rubbish.

It hinders the club, Ten Hag's preparation and makes us look small time. Especially when Arsenal, City and others aren't messing around.

Embarassing tbh, I feel sorry for ETH already.
