4 hours till the window closes and it’s quiet everywhere. What a disappointing transfer window in general, not just for our club.

It's a real fenzy out there isn't it. We seem to have put ourselves under a lot of undue pressure during this window. It's certainly not helped by Mourinho saying he's not happy in every single interview, although he was often just talking about World Cup players not being around for preseason.
He was trying to put pressure on the board to spend money...which I approve of.
I want us to have the best squad in the league, so in turn we can win the league.
I know that some "fans" don't want us to spend and support the Glazers, but I support our manager, players and club, in that I want the league title.
I have no interest in us not spending, aiming for 4th, while the Glazers use the money to buy themselves another mansion or yacht.

True that

Ending the transfer window before the season starts is definitely the right thing imo... but what were they thinking trialling it during a World Cup summer? Was obvious what would happen

Liverpool come this season with confidence and cohesion. We, however, come in with uncertainty, negativity and sense of dread. Just listen to Mournho talk these days. Miserable man.
Do you blame Morinho for being so down beat?
We got 2nd last season and we needed one last big push (transfers) to go for the title.
The board pulled the plug and left him high and dry. They've told him that top 4 is his target and his current squad is good enough for that.
What about the title? They don't seem to care.

We were so close to a genuine title challenge. i was sure it was going to happen this season, but I guess not.
If Jose leaves and the board bring in a "yes man", then our next league title may be a long way away.

I do understand his intention and it would have been fine if it worked. However, we're looking at the possibility of signing none of our targets here and the pressure Jose has put on the club will affect us negatively. Even now the impression we're giving the media and the world is that we're panicking and the season hasn't even started yet. The better approach would have been to get on the same page with Woodward show a united front.

We are looking for value in the market.
Woodward doesn't understand that the market has moved on in the last 2 years and he can't pay 2016 prices in 2018.
CFC and LFC, for example are buying GKs for huge sums of money. And these GKs are not the best in the World.
EPL proven defenders are now priced at around £75M.
Don't think it has anything to do with looking for value anything, we've spent stupid money on players before. I think we're just incompetent at this whole transfer business. Maybe Jose gave Woody a list, and we've spent the whole summer faffing about with the unobtainable players in the said list without a back up plan seeing as our scouting is absolutely useless. Now we're just desperately running around trying to get any fecking body to sign before 5pm

The only thing that could have got Mourinho to play some decent attacking football was new signings, because the generally leaves it to the players to take advantage of the space created by his extreme defensive tactics.

So, given that we have made no major improvements and were dire last season, it will be more the same this season too. Disappointing.

I don't see how.

The right thing would be to close it at the same time as the European market, seen as that's where the vast majority of our purchases are from and a good chunk of our sales are go to. If the reason is to protect the clubs form losing players or having their players upset after the season starts, it's doomed to fail regardless of the year.

Do you think want-away players will stop angling for moves just because the window has shut here, when they know they can still register and play abroad like normal? That their agents and foreign clubs will cease their activity? You think we'll stop hearing about Pogba until 31st of August when the window shuts in Europe? That Raiola will just shut it come 5pm today? No chance.

They should have tried to advocate for an UEFA-wide change of the window and see if they get traction, instead of deciding to unilaterally decide to shut our own window early. It was an incredible show of stupidity.

I think it should end before the season starts in all the major European Countries

Pretty bad transfer window tho. Like they've given up. I do agree there is too many on the wage bill but that should have been the first order of business. Any way let's hope for top 4. City didnt need much.

Liverpool invested exactly were they needed to. Spurs didnt need much. Chelsea i think have done really well late on in window. Arsenal will bounce with new manager. This year could be a struggle.

Don't imagine us hovering above the relegation zone like joses last Chelsea season. But there is something very wrong and for me its Glazers and Woodward. If they dont fancy jose eject him. More sponsorships than new players, new jerseys again. Its a mess. And we are currently the laughing stock on the twaterverse. I keep hearing the squad is good enough. It wasnt last year. I dont know how we managed 2nd its all a blur. Any way we'll all take it coz lets be honest the Glazers couldn't be happier.

I think that is quite a lot of money. Maybe we should be doing better with our squad now.
We spent the second most after City, had the second strongest team on paper and we finished second.

We should be playing better football, I can wholeheartedly get behind that, but the results are commensurate to our investment.

It does feel that this season is already a write-off.
LFC will be the ones to challenge MCFC, this season. They have been aggressive and are backing their manager.
Again, Liverpool have spent almost exactly the same amount as we have during Mourinho's tenure. Except they started off from a worse position and had to sell their best player in the meantime.

If they can challenge City, so can we. Or at least should.

I would also add that many of the signings made by LVG and Moyes were a complete waste. Mourinho basically had to rebuilt the squad lal over because besides Herrera and Mata, none of the other signings really made it.

Been hoping to sign maguire since the world cup but despite 2 alleged failed bids, the player hasnt pushed for a move by putting in transfer request. i think he definitely wants to sign for us, but Leicester are being stubborn, they have signed a centre half and lined up another, possibly expecting a huge panic bid from us today which may still happen very shortly

Most top 6 strengthen every year. They improve normally . Chelsea win the league. City win the league. Liverpool CL final.

We have kept players that should have been sold for way too long. Throwing figures up saying we should be ok is a joke. As we have bought extremely poorly last few years.
Smalling and Jones wouldn't make the West Ham team. Young is a winger and 33. And we have literally no RB to start Leicester apart from Darmian who we cant get rid of.

They haven't yet though. If we finish 2nd again this year, ahead of Liverpool, how would you rate the season?

A couple of weeks ago I wasn't overly keen on Harry Maguire or Willian, now I would gladly sign Harry Potter and Will-I-Am from The Black Eyed Peas

Depends on the quality of the football and the performance in the other competitions.

yeah, that sums up my thoughts.

Still, think we have a great squad, we have added depth at centre midfield that we needed and a good young right back, we also signed Sanchez in January which everyone(including Mourinho) was banging on that after his poor start that he was a signing for this season, not last year.

Plus what everyone has been pointing towards us needing a center back, we have 5 first team centre backs, an incredible defensive record and have spent a lot of money at that position over the past two years (we signed Bailly 2 years ago and Lindelof last year,) so we are hardly falling apart at the position.

Think I main problem going into this season isn't the players we have its the cohesion between them, for me if we improve that it would be better then any signing.

Mourinho should be concentrating on getting the best out of the players he does have not constantly demanding more signings when the players he signs don't work out.

Alright, let me narrow it down. Let's say a we have a season largely a mirror of the last one. Trophy-less, CL 16 or Quarters, a domestic cup Semi or Final, football more or less the same. What'd you say then?

So on deadline day our centre back search turns to Godin? Is there a centre back anywhere in Europe we haven't actually tried to sign? I can't believe this.
