Hear me out before giving me a battering  this is a genuine discussion, not just a moan. We are obviously good enough to win it without fuss but, considering our current status, over 46 games and this squad, would we.

We absolutely clearly would have by a huge distance the best squad. Certain players would just dominate teams many weeks.

    However.

    1. We seem to have huge trouble with the types of teams that make up a lot of the division : teams that we would have to break down, or teams like Sheffield United who are well organised, not afraid to attack and are very good on the ball.

    2. We have little to no appetite for physical battles. We visibly shrink and look absurdly lethargic when faced with any semblance of an 'up for it' side. I can smell the defeats at West brom, Derby and Swansea.

    3. No matter what we do it probably takes anything between 94-100 points to win it. Do we have any sort of consistency in us? Even when we went on a great run it literally swung to the complete opposite extreme at the drop of a hat.

Other key points are that you can count on one hand the amount of teams we could be said to have dominated in recent years. We have lost or drawn with a various collection of the worst most demoralised sides I have seen in the Premier league. We also went out to Bristol, Derby and one of the worst Sunderland sides ever in the league cup. That excludes our weakened team getting annihilated by mk dons. Many of our players seemed to believe that even a top 4 battle was beneath them. Would they have the stomach for it.

Our record against the relegated and newly promoted teams in the last two seasons is 44 points from 72,or 44 from 24 games. (added to op)

Its said that its the most competitive league in England by many, or certainly that's the narrative they try to push. Would we win it, would we clock up 100 points over a season?

Good question, yes we would have some individuals who are better, not all, I genuinely feel that Jones and Smalling as well as Young are Championship players.
Then we have Lingard? Would Pogba like the physicality and pace of the Championship, plus the bigger number of games?
We aren’t much of a team at the moment either are we? By that I mean we don’t play as a team, we might win it but I would have my doubts and would be happy with a promotion.

We'll just have to try it in 2020/21 season.

    It will be tough.

But 46+ games in season, woohoo!

Considering we struggle against newly promoted teams and the desire of most of our players is somewhat questionable, dont think it's a stupid question.

Hard work and togetherness seem to be the hallmark of good Championship teams, and the real basket cases emerge when players/coach/board are at loggerheads, so from that standpoint we'd definitely struggle.

On the other hand we're an established top six PL side with a budget that dwarfs anything in that division, so obviously we'd win the bloody Championship. 0/10 thread, give your head a wobble etc.

Smalling and Lukaku would be incredible.

Also Wolves finished 7th, best promoted side in a while I think, but they added Jimenez, Moutinho, Patricio, Jonny and Dendoncker as 5 new first choice players, and the first two in particular seem to have been among their core 6 best players (along with Jota, Boly, Coady and Doherty).

Our record against the relegated and newly promoted teams in the last two seasons is 44 points from 72,or 44 from 24 games. Not to mention some truly embarrassing cup results. It's a reasonable barometer for games against the upper half of table and is not impressive at all. We would obviously do well, but we can't stop another side getting 100 points. Would we is the question.

Comfortably. We probably wouldn’t drop points in more than ten games. It’s a ridiculous question, we were sixth in Premier League not fifteenth.

Yes easily, but mainly because we'd make a few transfers to prepare our squad and would easily be able to financially bully any other clubs in the division.

If we forced the likes of Pogba, Lukaku and Martial to stay I could see things becoming even more toxic as I doubt they would have the desire to fight it out at that level. Lingard and Rashford would stay and tear it up imo.

Of course, but my op shows its not that simple a question. There are other things to consider over the course of a long long season in a league like that. Of another team got 100 points, would we definitely get more. Maybe not.

Wolves walked the league, we finished above them despite being terrible and now we somehow wouldn't win the championship

Too simple a posotion to take though. Wolves had the steel to rack up 100 points when they won it. Could our current side guarantee more than 100 points? Guaranteed? I wouldn't be certain. Anyway we probably would, but it's a good debate between thoughts on both sides

fecking hell, at first I thought it was question about league title.

What a poor thread, it's so laughably bad it should be in contention for the worst thread of the year.

Silly, we’ve had a bad season but a couple of extra wins and we could have finished third.

    Easily win the Championship.

We would be bang up there but I certainly wouldn't bet on us winning it. As the OP says, we clearly have the talent but I don't think we have the fight or the attitude.

The main issue for me is that United getting beaten by crap teams is now very predictable. When we go away to tight, pokey little grounds and play teams who are willing to give blood, sweat and tears for the cause, our record is appalling

There's a question to be asked about why we haven't got half the spirit of a Norwich or a Sheffield United, which is embarrassing enough in itself. But framing it as whether we'd win the division below us is a bit much for my tender soul, after the season we've had

There would be a big change of personnel for a start. In a way it would clear the decks to allow youth and new players a season to bed in. You probably would still have Jones, Smalling, and Young stinking up the place though :(

Definitely not, our squad is too talented to win a lower league. I mean even Messi couldn't do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke.

People mock because they're not really thinking about it, but our mental weakness is a real problem and playing against the type of teams who battle and defend in large numbers against us, or press us hard would take its toll on many of our players. I think we'd have a good chance but I also think we could have a huge meltdown.

I don't think its a foregone conclusion, Newcastle were relegated and won the championship but just by 1 point from Brighton. So i think we would definitely be promoted again but if another club was able to run up a total of points in the 90s they might just beat us to the actual title if we didn't hit the ground running.

We haven't been relegated though, we're not Newcastle. I see the points being made; that despite footballing talent a dressing room divided can hamper you over a long, physically-demanding Championship campaign, but let's get real.

 rattling a few cages. I thought the caveat that saying we are clearly the best squad by a country mile would Clarify my concern. I'm not arguing that we are simply a championship side, just whether we have it in us to get close to 100 points in the league which may well be needed.

I can't see how we can watch our recent games against Cardiff Huddersfield wolves twice and everton and say we absolutely positively would, especially with Jones Smalling bailly young lingard rashford pereira likely to occupy lots of playing time in a 46 game season.

 if it makes the classics then great.

Dare I call for a poll
    A) easily
    B) yes in a close battle
    C) not sure, it would be close.
    D) no, we have too many problems

Only United fans can think that a team finishing sixth in PL wouldn't win the Championship.

This is genuinely one of the worst and most stupid threads in the history of the Caf.

Those teams raise their game because of who we are. If we were to fall to those standards, but somehow have this same team as now we would romp the league.

Of course the chances of that happening are almost none, but given the discussion, 136 points minimum should be achievable.

I think there's a chance we drop 30-40 points over a season given how we've played in last 2 months. Should we encounter a team like wolves were that might not be enough. Our results against weaker teams over the last 4 seasons simply have to raise the possibility of losing quite a lot of games. Our mentality over recent seasons really questions if we have enough winners. Trophies are hard to win at any level.

Anyway I think we would, but wouldn't run away with it
