Xavi - The manager

Yeah there is a clearly a fondness for this club, didn't he wax lyrical about Scholes or was that Iniesta
Both, and Messi I think. The Spaniards definitely loved him though. Even Xabi Alonso gushed about him, then scholesy tried to deck him

Beckham:
-better engine
-better passer/crosser
-world class set piece taker
- good ball striker but not a tremendous goal threat (position played a part)

Bale
- World class athlete with pace and strength that few could rival
- Better take on threat
- Better finisher and goal threat

Achievements are pretty similar: Bale has the 5 CL's (really 4 as the last one he didn't even play in) and 3 La Liga's, Beckham has 6 PL titles and 1 CL along with 1 La Liga. Beckham was the UEFA best in Europe choice in '99, but Bale was never going to rival that award because of the Messi/Ronaldo era he played in. Both had around an 8 year peak where they were at their best ('97 or so to 2005, 2011-18 for Bale probably). Bale more injury prone, but also one of the best big game players of his generation.

It's close I think. They played different roles obviously so it's difficult to really compare them as apples to apples.

Bale was the PFA player of the year (he was legitimately the best player in his league). Beckham never was, despite multiple Beckham teammates winning that award (Cantona, Keane, Sheringham, Giggs (later) etc)

Bale was scoring UCL final go-aheas goals and Copa Del Rey winning goals. Beckham never quite did the same in finals. In fact, I can't remember a single goal contribution in any final that Beckham played with United (but it's been a while).

He'll clearly take the job if offered.

I wouldn't mind having him really, I don't think he's among the very best that there is but he definitely knows how to build towards a more possession oriented approach and his work at barca shows that.

Too risky for me. I don’t think he was that impressive at Barca compared to how Flick gets them to play. He’s in the Zidane category, where I would like to see how he does in another job before we hire him.

While I agree that he's as of now is an inferior coach to flick whom I consider among the very best there are still several caveats and it is to be said that xavi's record is more impressive than it would seem.

While his barcelona team was quite unimaginative when it came to offense their defensive rigidity was among the very best and I belive they were never outpossesd during his tenure and their only lopsided defeat was against Madrid in previous years supercoppa.

Also there are several alleviating factors when comparing this current barcelona side with the year before as it could be said that their current two best players weren't simply there the year before, yamal because he was only starting out and not yet the player that he is now and pedri who as of now is back to his best hadn't quite recovered from his injured last season and still somewhat off kilter when compared to his best.

Results wise they were pretty respectable last season, great league form ( the same point tally of their current season actually) and pretty respectable in Europe as well, in fact had it not been for arajuo's mishaps they had a pretty decent chance of getting to the final.

Lastly he is not currently employed which means no compensation package required, an attractive prospect considering our current financial means.

All in all I doubt he'll get us back to where we wish to be but I think he'll might be able to get us just a bit closer.

Who wouldn't you consider risky in our current state?

Someone who has managed multiple clubs and have done decent jobs there. Like Iraola, Howe, Glasner and Emery. They might not win us the league, but would improve us much more than what Amorim has.

I’m just unsure about Xavi as winning the league with Barca isn’t really a big achievement. If he combines that with another good job elsewhere then it might look better. His record in Europe wasn’t great as they lost to us and Frankfurt in the Europa.
