Yes, a VERY close call - in truth JOS probably adds more to our attack and his form at RB seems to have given Gazza a shot in the arm. As indeed Ole did with Beckham and now he's turned up on the left may yet even stir Giggs to former glories. Competiton...ain't it wonderful ?

Barthez
G Nev - Wes - Rio - Silvestre
Becks - Keane - Scholes - Giggs
RvN - Solskjaer

Whoever else we play, we need to use two recognised strikers.

How long since Ole played up front???

The partner of Ruud and Scholes seems our best choice now (if no new striker is signed in January). Ole can play on the left side if Giggs is not fit.

Bastard, i was going for that line up but you got there first.

I think we are past the days of a constant starting 11, due to large squads, fixture congestion, injuries and of course tactics. It depends on the opposition as to what is our 'best'11. For example away from home against good opposition we need to control the game better and soak up attacks, so the 5 man midfield works well, especially away in europe. At home in the Premier league we should be playing 4-4-2 and going for it in every game no matter who the opposition like we did against the Arse. The 4-4-1-1 is suited to our european games as the pace is slower and more control of the ball is needed, our record in eurpoe since we employed this system has been superb, with only the deportivo disasters last season the blip.

I also think Veron performs better in the bigger games, especially at OT, he also plays well in most of our european away games, but his form on the road in the PL seems to be dodgy. In scrappy games where you have to dig in, like the West brom game, seba is best left out of the team, as his talents are wasted, but i would have in every time we need to go for a win, especially in europe, as he is one of our best playmakers.

Not proven imo.

We still struggle for goals.

10 out of 10 KMD. I doubt there's many on here who would bother trying to pick your starting 11. You're alright.

My choice:
Barthez
G.Nev Wes Rio Silvetre
Becks Keano Veron O'shea
Scholes
RVN

O'Shea, a right footed Centre half, on the left wing? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Why not. He's played LB before and as I remember made some damn good runs to the by-line with some pretty smart cut-backs. He'll do a job there just like he's done everywhere else he's played. At least until Giggsy's rested which I think he should be.

I'm sure he 'could do a job' there, but playing left back and playing left wing is very different.

And besides, players like Ole and Scholes are far better options if Giggs is out, and so is Richardson.

Not IMO. Ole's never looked comfortable on the left. He's better on the right if anywhere. Scholes really needs to be in the thick of things. Both will drift in field. Richardson? Maybe but he reminds me of and old fashioned inside left.
