If you were the manager after that defeat, what would you do for the Leeds game? Same team? Same formation and tactics? Or would you drop one or two players?

Here's mine.

Ricardo
Phil Rio O'Shea Silvestre
Beckham Butt Veron Giggs
Ruud Ole

Tactically, I'd have Becks and Giggs sticking to the sidelines, and Phil and Silvestre instructed to overlap and play in Beckham and Giggs, with the aim to get in as many crosses from the touchlines as possible. Veron can focus his passes on playing in the wingers, and not over the top balls to the strikers. Butt to sit back and protect the defense, with Veron in a more forward role. Ruud and Ole both up against the markers and trying to get in the box as much as possible.

I agree, but it'd be great to see gazzah filling the shoes for his, let's say, "somewhat short of brilliant" brother.

TeamTalk are saying he needs another reserve team match for match fitness, but that the reserve game against Liverpool has been postponed.

Even a not match fit Gary Neville can't be worse than his brother.

True, but his bone break was worse than Beck's and we don't want him overstressing it - having said that, in the reserve game he did play the full 90 and looked good to me.

Might be an idea that, he can't do much worse, and it would add to our attacking threat, as well as some unpredictability and novelty to the side.

Roy Keane to take Ian Harte out with a shot from his new sniper rifle, cunningly disguised as a crutch from his vantage point high up in the stands.

Things really have reached an impasse when you consider dropping Giggs for Forlan. Diego should be consigned to the Reserves until it can be established exactly what he does well and where, if at all possible, to play him to best effect.

Exactly! I mean here I am looking at the head to head on the united website comparing Diego and Alan Smith. I mean crikey, it took Smith 450 minutes of play to get 1 goal. Forlan's had 40. 40! That's not even a whole half! Let's see him run woodgate ragged! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

whats this ricardo nonsence, is barthez injured? ,where is carroll?, you would risk an untried keeper in a big game like this, do you not remember taibi!! chelsea beat us 5-0!!
gobshites
anyway
I think we should stick to a 442 and we will be ok, but i wouldnt be suprised to see phil nev man marking kewell in the free role, hes pretty useful at that,
maybe using a back 3 of rio, blanc and o'shea, neville marking kewell, silvestre on the wing, giggs pushed up front,

barthez/carroll/ricardo (who ever is fit)

o'shea blanc rio
neville
Becks Veron Butt Silvestre
giggs
Van the Man

i think fergie will adopt the same team as bolton though.

Provided Gary is fit that's our best team - end of story. Fergie won't go for it because he'll want to play one upfront in order to somehow beef up the midfield, furthering his notion that such a formation makes us "harder to beat", never mind the fact that it tends to nullify the attack somewhat. He'll also persist with Blanc for as long as possible.

Because I'd like to see O'Shea given more of a chance. Irwin never played every game in his last seasons, so why should Blanc?

When it first came out about us signing him on a free (we still had Stam at that time) many on here were against it, but I always thought it would be a good signing even if he warmed the bench every match. I thought that his experience would be a fantastic addition to the squad, especially for the development of Brown and O'Shea.

That was over a year ago now, and I would like O'Shea, and Brown once he is fit again, to be given a good go every game or two.

He was poor against Bolton. MUTV did an analysis of all the defensive moments in the game with Wes Brown, and Blanc's mistakes were very visible, we were lucky they didn't make more of them.

Being a true fan for long time of the "President" as they call Blanc in France and having followed him right from his Montpellier days (with Eric), I have to say that I would personally prefer O Shea. He made two mistakes on Wednesday and is often slow against even the "lesser rated strikers like Roberts (WBA). Its OK in a league game where we have an opportunity to make up in the next few. But come the CL, errors like this could be fatal. O SHEA has proved and the time Fergie tested him out with RIO against Parma showed how well this comb will work.
Blanc is a useful squad player who can help to groom the new generation. But he should not be playing all games, especially against the teams with a pacey striker.

That's a bit drastic don't you think? I know they played well against us but even so.....and Sam Allardyce might have something to say about it as well. :)

Agree with you that would be our best team. I actually think he'll play Ruud and Ole together but I wouldn't be surprised to find Ole playing as part of a 5 man midfield.

I'd love to see O'Shea get a run with Rio. But, like you, I think Fergie will probably stay with Blanc for as long as possible...

I still haven't understood why so many people want Ricardo in for Barthez. With O'Shea in for Blanc we are also talking about making big changes in defence in the worst time.

The backline has been decent in the last few games and conceded goals with personal errors by Carroll and Beckham... leave it alone for now and focus on the actual problems.

Personally, I've never seen him play so obviously I couldn't say whether I'd want him in or not.
