I've been so surprised at how awful you lot have been. Other than a good 45mins against UAE you've been shocking. Cavani especially. He may as well not been there.
We knew the defence was rubbish but hoped Ramírez and Lodeiro would create enough and with those two outscore any deficiencies at the back.

Nothing there. So Suárez gets asked to drop deeper and try create stuff, which he does occasionally but just ends up on his arse half the time after a dive and god knows where the feck Cavani is half the time.

No association football, just a bunch of individuals knocking a ball about. Terrible, terrible stuff.

To be fair... I new cw's name before the invention of SM. I'm pretty sure it'd had come up in threads before...

So what's the next round look like?
QF1. GB v South Korea => should win, watch fitness as an issue
QF2. Senegal v Mexico => could go either way
QF3. Brazil v Honduras => kickabout for Brazil, leg kickabout for Honduras
QF4. Egypt v Japan => Haven't seen much of either team TBH, Egypt may surprise

Then 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4

The winner of the first semifinal will probably win it.

Japan were excellent against Spain, totally outplayed them even before Spain went down to 10. I would expect them to get past Egypt.

Why wasn't Cavani playing through the middle?
He never does. No one has a clue why, Tabárez just has this thing about tactics ahead of players. He aims to play 4-3-3 with the wide forwards tracking back their fullbacks. There's no one for that wide right role so Cavani has been always played there.

He was shite at the WC as well, same reason.

Doesn't really make sense when Cavani is a goal machine and Suarez... well isn't. Plus you'd think Suarez would be more suited out wide than Cavani.

Attack-wise everyone would agree. It's the defending from the front where it falls apart, Suárez just wouldn't cover as effectively and doesn't have Cavani's pace or stamina to keep doing that. You may have noticed one GB shot towards the end when Cavani was actually in the sweeper role, having gone back to cover for Coates and Rolín going up for a corner.

It's a bit fecking mental if you ask me to have one of the most prolific strikers of the last couple of years away from the box and "doing a job" at the back. Cavani does put in that defensive shift though and I have no idea how badly exposed we would be otherwise so Tabárez may well be right, feck knows.

Cavani is more of a counter threat than a fox in the box though and we haven't been able to play on the counter that much, which has traditionally been our strength. Gone are the days when the opposition just put us under siege for 90mins :(

So I don't really have a go at Cavani. After all, he is asked to do that, it makes him look shite, and you don't see him complain AT ALL. Many would get all stroppy about it. Good man.

I was at the Brazil game and they looked very good....NZ never gave up but were outclassed. Quite a mix of fans with a air few NZ fas around us....more Brazil fans though with a noisy bunch behind he goal with their drums. Looking forward to seeing them again in the next round.

Cheers!

I'll be a daredevil. GB lose. Park with a brace. Japan, Mexico, and Brazil to progress. Honduras will make it tough though.

No worries.

Could the BBC and Olympics sites be any worse? Getting hold of something as simple as game results, a fixture, or group tables is a bloody nightmare.

Looks like I'll be watching Senegal v Mexico then. Gutted it's not Team GB but I'll have no problem getting behind the Mexicans after being there in January, fantastic people. Shame there is no Chicho :(

Anyone else on here going to the semi-final at OT on Tuesday? Obviously I'm hoping for Brazil vs. Great Britain. Went to St James' today (I live in Durham) to try and get tickets to the Brazil - Honduras match tomorrow but they sold out when I was about 10th in the line so me and me dad (who's a Manc) are heading down.

The London2012 site is very good. I've used it a lot and it's very easy to get around. You pick football and then the men's department and bam! You're there.

Been suckerpunched twice, first was a very good goal. Second I thought was the keeper's fault.
