So..

I hope Hillary runs, I think she would make a good President. I might even give her memoirs a good read at some point.

I like this argument that repubs are fecking morons for falling on their swords over tax increases on the wealthy since the majority of people support it and more than half of the wealthy are dems anyway.

So what spending cuts can they reasonably demand? It looks to me as if their bargaining position has been severely weakened by the election result.

PBS, Planned Parenthood, stuff for poor people. The usual. With the Teahadists in control of GOP primaries, incumbents have to keep themselves on the right or lose their nomination.

They've been fecking idiots and boxed themselves in. Flirt with the nutters and you have to keep them in check come re-election time. We'll hopefully see the house back with the dems in two years with teanutters splitting the repub vote in a bunch of races.

Arizona Still Counting Ballots Nearly A Week After Election

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/11/arizona_uncounted_ballots.php?ref=fpb

Hundreds of thousands of ballots have yet to be counted in Arizona nearly a week after Election Day, a majority of which appeared to come from Maricopa County.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s said Saturday that approximately 486,405 ballots still have to be counted across the state, representing more than a quarter of the 1.8 million votes cast. About 322,000 of those uncounted ballots came from Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix and many of its suburbs. The statewide total included 307,620 early ballots and 178,785 provisional ballots.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona sent a letter to county and state elections officials on Friday suggesting that Arizona’s voter identification law may have had a disproportionate impact on minority voters. Under the law, voters can show photo identification or provide two forms of non-photo identification such as bank statements or utility bills. Voters who did not provide such forms of identification would be forced to cast conditional provisional ballots, which require them to provide identification to elections officials by this Wednesday to have their ballot count.

“The ACLU of Arizona is deeply concerned by continuing reports of hundreds of thousands of uncounted ballots, expressed concerns about lack of transparency and clarity in the process, and disproportionately high numbers of provisional ballots issued to minority voters,” ACLU Arizona Executive Director Alessandra Soler wrote in the letter.

The New York Times reported that many of those who had to cast provisional ballots were first time minority voters who signed up to receive their ballots in the mail but never did. The group One Arizona is calling on the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to investigate. DOJ had sent federal observers to Maricopa County to monitor polling place activity on Election Day.

Late update: A DOJ representative declined to say whether the Civil Rights Division would get involved.

Understand the Presidential Election thread being closed as Obama was re- elected.

But this could be interesting for the Senate seat and a few congressional seats.
About a quarter of all votes still not counted.

DOJ getting involved. Should be interesting.

Petraeus was set-up!

Although I can completely see how he couldn't say no.

They simply want to shift the focus off their international espionage to China from the middle east and want to have a China expert in the big chair at Langley. There aren't many ways you can get rid of a popular ex-military figure in US Politics.

It was nice knowing you guys.

the political side of me hopes we get the raving lunatics running again for the GOP nominations, but average American in me hopes the moderates get their way and take back the GOP.

sounds like win win to me. :)

FBI agents were at Broadwell's home to collect evidence.

Huge issues for the US at the moment. The deficit has to be reeled in and the debt has to be paid down a little. So we need increased revenues, which can be tax increases and/or an improving economy plus some spending cuts.

I really think both parties are plebs when it comes to this issue. We can't slash spending or increase taxes significantly because both will shrink the economy, so the net result will mean no improvement in reducing the deficit.

The Bush tax cuts should be allowed to lapse but they need replacing with tax cuts at the lower end to prevent negative impacts on the economy. Some spending can be cut but the best bet is just freeze most departments budgets for two or three years.

That's pretty much what Obama is likely to propose, though I think the portion of the Bush cuts he plans to keep goes to far up the ladder. (How about just 90% instead of 98%?) If there's any chance for the GOP to go along with this, they'll probably want to cut things like food stamps or the unemployment extensions, which is annoying because that spending is exactly where you don't want cuts made, because it gets pumped straight into the economy.

It's beautiful.

Though I kinda wish there was an actual left-wing party like the Labour Party that would force the democrats more towards the left in the same way the Teabaggers have forced the repubs to the right.

I mean, if the Repubs are gonna filibuster anything the left tries to pass anyway, you might as well say what you really think instead of trying to placate them into a compromise.

At this point the democrats have moved so far right themselves they're practically republicans anyway, in a way that's a victory for conservative values.

That other bird (Jill Kelley) Broadwell apparently sent threatening messages to is smoking hot. Must be nice to be a four-star general.

Jill Kelley... there is a porn star bearing that stage name but spelled Kelly.

On a different topic, I see the rightwing nutters are claiming voter fraud all over the map. Claiming that in one county/primary that Obama received in excess to 900,000 votes to Romney's 0.

Excellent. The longer they remain delusional about why they really lost, the better for Obama and the Dems.

Worse than that though, they also want to take the pitch that doesn't belong to them with as well.
They built a monster with the teabaggers and bringing in the religious freaks.
I don't see how they can move to the center...If they do it will splinter the party...perhaps not a bad thing for the long term.

this is going to be better drama than anything on tv.

Splintering would be good. The GOP keeps the infrastructure, money, name recognition and the lunatics can go the way of Ross Perot. It's almost self correcting.

agree. It will take a little time...but once you get the clear thinkers back in charge who are interested in the future of the nation rather than just people who only want to retian power, the party will be in a lot healtheir shape.

The problem will be for the likes of Powell, Lugar and Wilkerson to be allowed to be heard.

In the spirit of the religion thread, we could just ask god to be benevolent and pay off the debt. I'm surprised the tea party republicans aren't proposing this.

Do it fecktards! No more federal money, no federal military, new tariffs on imports as you are no longer a US state. Stupid fecking simpletons. Cuba could invade Florida if it wanted to - no US Navy or Coast Guard.

Nothing really new here, been seeing this for decades whenever one party or the other seems dominant someone from the other side talks about secession. Or some people talk about moving out of the country if X is elected. I remember when Reagan was President someone tried to get a seccession decree on the ballot in San Francisco.

Everything old is new again.

If those shit states leave the union they won't have the big dem states to bail them out with their contributions to the federal pot. The biggest takers of fed money are all red states.
