PFA player of the year 2013

Interesting he didn't win the young player of the year award two years ago, when he won the main one.

It's really retarded, the PFA player of the year shouldn't win the young PFA player of the year. Also, the age limit should be 21 not 23.

That''s why the football journalists award is much better. They tend not to knee jerk and they take the season as a whole.

Scott Parker won the Football writers award in 2011.

I have always preferred the PFA award going back to the days when Steve Nicol and Mark Hughes won the awards in the late 80's. Footballers know more about the game than journos IMO.

So I say he's had a similar season and people feel the need to say Ronaldo was better? I don't need anyone to tell me that for goodness sake.

I dunno, Scot Parker won that and they gave it to David Ginola in 1999 (there was a fairly succesful side that year if my memory serves).

Yeah, they are not perfect, but from what I understand the footballers really don't take it seriously and most just vote for the flavour of the month.

Carrick and Robin split the United vote. Like when Ginola won it.

I got what you meant.

Hes dragged spurs to wins when the team was playing mediocre to shit, as Ronaldo did for us.

Not the same level, but a similar level of importance to his team.

The fact that we even have individual awards in a team sport is only slightly less cringeworthy than people's reaction towards these pointless accolades.

Trouble is a lot if players don't take it seriously and end up voting for their favourite or popular players.

I've heard stories of players letting youth team players fill out their ballots because they can't be arsed.

Also you said 2006/7. I'm sorry but people are being very biased if they don't think Bale has reached those levels this season. He hasn't got to the standard of Ronaldo the following season or since he's moved to Madrid. But Bale has been sensational this season and just as good as Ronnie in 2006/7.

Rickie Lambert said he voted for Suarez. Which would be fair enough, expect he said he voted for him because he is a Liverpool fan.

Quite deserved IMO. And would be stupid if he didn't win them both once he was nominated.

IMO, anyone of RvP, Carrick, Suarez and Bale could have won and you would have few complaints.

I'm not biased at all. I don't support either club but Bale this season has not been close to as good as Ronaldo was that season.

No chance.

Most years it has been spot on from the football writers.

Since 2000 (football writers 1st, PFA 2nd)...
1999-00 Roy Keane (Manchester United) Roy Keane (Manchester United)
2000-01 Teddy Sheringham (Manchester United) Teddy Sheringham (Manchester United)
2001-02 Robert Pires (Arsenal) Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United)
2002-03 Thierry Henry (Arsenal) Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
2003-04 Thierry Henry (Arsenal) Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
2004-05 Frank Lampard (Chelsea) John Terry (Chelsea)
2005-06 Thierry Henry (Arsenal) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
2006-07 Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
2007-08 Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
2008-09 Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)
2009-10 Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
2010-11 Scott Parker (West Ham United) Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur)
2011-12 Robin van Persie (Arsenal) Robin van Persie (Arsenal)

I'd say Giggs in 09 and Parker in 11 are the glaring, blatent nonsense awards. So it's 1 each between the writers and the players in terms of giving to to someone who was clearly not the best player that year.

Giggs at least captained the side which won the league, whereas Parker lead his side to 20th. They were both weird choices, but the Parker one was absolutely absurd, and only happened because there's a West Ham fan infestation in the press.

Nice one De Gea! I'm guessing that team they picked isn't concerned with formation. I have no issue with Bale winning the POTY award but they need to lower the age limit on the young player award.

fair play De Gea!! Hazard is a joke

lost all credibility when Giggs won it as a tribute to his career and Scotty Parker won it as a tribute to his courage

Hazard in team of the year is just ridiculous, the boner people have got for this guy is mental. Shouldn't be anywhere near a team of the fecking year and the neglect of Michu is pathetic when you consider how fantastic he's been this season in leading Swansea to a cup and basically being the main player in putting them where they are in the league.

Sheer madness.

giggs won it because aside from vidic there were absolutely no stand out players that year. and though its meant to be a league only award giggs was putting in fantastic performances around the time of the voting. its not nearly as bizarre as people make out.

I don't think Hazard should be in the team team of the year but it's not exactly the most ridiculous thing ever. He's had a good season. He's scored or assisted 23 goals in the league (3 more than Michu). I'd have opted for Michu but it's closer than many are making out.

Giggs didn't even win the Man Utd player of the year award that year!

I stunk of Al Pacino winning an Oscar for Scent of a Woman.

maybe its me but i thought al pacino was fantastic in scent of a woman

anyway, i think vidic shouldve won it that year but people act like giggs was having a bad season. he was in fantastic form and changed loads of games for us, played in nearly 50 games that season all comps and as i said, there were no obvious candidates that year

I disagree. The fanfare surrounding Michu stems from the fact he cost so little and has vastly exceeded expectations in his first season in the Premier League. That doesn't mean, however, that he deserves a place on either the nominees shortlist nor in the team of the year. Awards are for the best performers, not the best value for money, and Michu has not been better than any of those players selected in my opinion.

Q: rio, who did you vote for POTY? Rio: "I can't remember to be honest."

Neil Ashton ‏@neilashton_ 31s

3rd. Hazard. 2. Benteke. 1. Bale storms home in young player of the year.

According to twitter yes. Great player who should be in the top two this season based on performance. But some of his antics have been a disgrace.

im all for the booing. shamed the sport, again. it was probably the 4th very high profile act of cheating or trouble in his professional career. not including any of his diving sagas.

I honestly didn't see the biting thing as *that* bad. And I thought a 10 game ban was harsh. What was bad though were those ankle stamps he did this season. The one on Distin in the derby was a disgrace.
