Been very good for Southampton this season. Will any of the bigger clubs try to sign him in the summer or is a midtable club his level?

Very good passer and fantastic workrate.

Saints have no need to sell him. They have hundreds of millions, possibly even a few billion, behind them and their chairman has stated he wants them to be top 4 in the coming seasons.

He also has the most tackles per game in the league and is in the top 5 in europe.

Tidy.

I didn't know Saints were loaded. Do they have a sugardaddy too?
Got brought by the Liberherr family a few years ago but the owner died a couple of weeks after or something. So they're still owned by them but the club is ran on behalf of them by a bloke called Nicola Cortese.

Its the first time they've been in a position to keep all their top talents.

Shaw, JWP, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Clyne and Rodriguez are all a solid basis for the team

Jack Cork is another player who's done well for them, think he was at Chelsea some time.

I think hes always been highly rated. He seems to have stepped it up again this season though. He never overly impressed me in the championship.

The have some tidy midfielders there currently. I think Lallana is the pick of them.

Another very good performance by him today. Worth a punt as backup to Carrick ?

Not too sure. He definitely does a brilliant job defensively for his team, not the best with the ball but perhaps he doesnt need to be in his role. Whether or not hes good enough for a top club, he's definitely good enough for a much better club than hes currently at

Reckon he has a plan for his career and is willing to stay at a smaller club to develop rather than making a move to a bigger club too soon.

The only thing I have noticed about him is that he has scored more goals this season than he has in his entire career till now.

Even if he is not as good with the ball he could effectively replace Fletch if he is tidy in defence and keeps the back four protected.

Carrick's game is not an out and out run and gun ball winning midfielder so having backup in there to break up play cannot hurt at this stage. Especially with Fletch out who was never great on the ball or in the pass.

There are plenty of players who Fergie could buy that would fit the bill (with the exception of the fact that he does not use out and out ball winners) and he is one of them. Looked a player today against Chelsea I have to admit.

Yeah, he is more Fletcher than Carrick. Can be box to box too, i think like Fletch and has added goals to his game this season.

Liebherr family is ridiculously rich, Liebherr must be the biggest manufacturing company in Europe probably. They have workshops all over Germany, and if you see one of those cranes on any building site, chances are good it's a Liebherr crane.

I stand by my belief that I'm not sure they'll need to sell him, the club is going places and has the money necessary to keep its top players. I also feel that the players that have stuck around since their Championship and League 1 days are determined to give it a good shot with the team in the premiership.

Worth a punt? Definitely good defensively and I can see him being relatively cheap.

Doesn't really says anything, that article.
It's not the best I agree, I just thought that given the fact Martinez is a Caf favourite and Schneiderlin has been mentioned as an option for us by some posters, the basics of the article might generate some discussion while we wait for the Rooney drama to be sorted out and for full muppetry to engulf us.

He's been highly rated for a long time. Surprised he wasn't signed by a premier league club when Southampton were in the championship.

Instead of taking a gamble on an unproven 37M player from the Portuguese league in Carvalho, i'd go in for this guy in the Summer. In my opinion, he's someone we could do with. He's a great tackler, reads the game well, quick across the ground, presses well and is decent on the ball. He'd be great in a double pivot with a more creative player like Gundogan or Rakitic, in my opinion.

He'd cost a small fortune himself, and judging by reports I'd imagine Carvalho's ceiling may be higher.

The only thing I worry about regarding Carvalho is his mobility. From what I've heard, he's not the quickest across the ground and most managers nowadays implement a high pressing system where dynamism is pretty important.

We struggle quite a lot with Carrick and Fellaini as our centre midfield partnership because they lack dynamism. I don't think we'd see a massive change with Carvalho in our midfield. I could be wrong, though. I just think Schneiderlin presses the ball exceptionally well which is what we lack.

How much do you reckon Schneiderlin be going for?

Well if Shaw is allegedly going for £27 million, I can imagine Schneiderlin would go for something similar. We paid £27 million for Fellaini, and still desperately need a midfielder, Southampton could use that to their advantage. Although apparently they owe some serious money. I like him as a player anyway, but I'm unsure what he can become.

I wouldn't say so. Most reports linking him with Arsenal are talking of a 15m valuation. Even if Southampton play hard-ball I'd say 20m most. Luke Shaw is an 18 year old with 2 years PL experience, English with already senior international call-up and Chelsea and Manchester City would likely gladly have him too. Shaw's price is pushed up big by those facts. Schneiderlin is only really being linked with Arsenal, is 24, isn't even a French international and Southampton seem to have this 27m transfer debt to pay-off so will likely need to sell. I can't see him going for more than 20m.

I'd love to have him. I like how he is quite well rounded, great at defending but not bad either at getting around and good on the ball. He or James McCarthy were my preferred signings in the summer. They'd be the perfect 3rd midfielder imo. They're best at sitting deeper but can also play a more box-to-box role and you'd be perfectly comfortable with them coming into big games due to injury. They'd also be good in a 3 man midfield.

We aren't likely to get 2 top signings so I think a Gundogan/Rakitic type signing along with Schneiderlin would be great. It just annoys me how we have Fellaini when we could have got McCarthy or Schneiderlin, for a little more than half the price too.

I really like Schneiderlin. I remember saying last summer we should have gone for him.

He's an excellent player and ready for the step up to a top 4 team, imo.

He's easily one of the best all round midfielders in the league. Wenger referred to him as a top player

He´s French so that´s no wonder Wenger said that..
But I think he is fantastic as a replacement for Carrick..
