Cos he's playing in the Ukrainian league?
Maybe money/playing in a better league/a new challenge/playing for a club more recognised globally.

Assuming the deal is on of course and the player wants to come, yes Champions League is a big negative for us.
Money? Unlikely. I am quite certain that Shakhtar could at least match anything that Liverpool would pay him. He is/was a very important player for Shakhtar, and Shakhtar's owner is both mega-rich and backed by certain political forces (as I understand it).
The Ukrainian league is doubtlessly a shitty backwater. But why not stay there for a season or two and try to hold out for an offer from a club that is competing for titles and regularly plays in the CL? Maybe not Real Madrid or Chelsea, but Milan? One of the bigger German clubs?
BTW, his name is pronounced something along the lines of "Mkhee-tah-ryaan".

Because maybe he knows hes not good enough for Madrid etc? He could break his leg any time while waiting. And living in Cheshire, or wherever Liverpool players hide their jewels, is probably a serious upgrade from where he is now.

Well assuming there is truth in the rumour that Liverpool are signing him and he wants to come - there must be reasons he is choosing to do so.

Yes, there must be. I'm just scratching my head a bit over this one, that's all. At any rate, he should be a great signing for you lot if you do get him.

For what it's worth, rumors of Mkhitaryan to Liverpool have been circulating in the Ukrainian press for a good week now. I'm even a bit surprised that the English newspapers are so late in running with this story.

It has been on the LFC forums for a good week or so too.

Good player from th elittle I have seem. Where does he fit. I assume that relegates Coutinho to the bench because they both play in the hole.

Coutinho generally plays from the left, even if it is often times only nominally due to how deep he drops.

From where I am sitting, it will be Henderson dropping out the first XI midfield three.

Fair enough, but that applies to everybody. Including Coutinho who no-one knew too much about either. Its a risk we have to take as we can't afford premiership premium taxes any more (Carroll, Downing, Henderson, etc).

What? If that is your basis for this entire argument no wonder you're talking this utter gonk.

It's a bit unfair constantly bringing up Borini and Allen. The former has been injured most of his time at the club and the latter started last season very well only to be hampered by a shoulder injury that eventually ruled him out for several weeks. Let's give them another season and see how they do.
For a team who started quite poorly with Allen as the main man in midfield and stumbled around the lower half I don't really understand how anyone can say he 'played well'. Table suggests the entire team were not all that great. Bar probably Suarez who rescued them with a ridiculous amount of goals.

Borini I will agree with. But he showed next to nothing that suggested he was a good signing prior to the injury.

I also agree that they deserve another couple of seasons but I don't really hold many hopes for Borini. Allen may get the chance to impress but imo he is just not suited to that deeper limited role that Liverpool seems to be more comfortable with when Lucas is in the side.

Fair enough though I doubt Liverpool would sign him for him not to be a starter. You son't generally spend the fees being reported on him for a player and keep him on the bench. I know Cuotinho has been impressive but Liverpool fans need to see more before they start calling him the next big thing. He has had bright periods before.

My girlfriend is about 1/4 Armenian, so I asked her and she looked at me like I had two heads. Sorry.

It's Me(like the first 2 letters in medal)-Khi-Tar-yan

He's arguably Armenia's best player. Shame if he goes to Liverpool.

And it's a normal Henrik (like Henrik Larsson).

According to Shakhtar's general director, Mkhitaryan has failed to show up for the team's pre-season training. Also says that Shakhtar has not received any offers from Liverpool and calls reports linking Mkhitaryan with Liverpool "rumors".

German media reported two hours ago he signed for Liverpool . Which is it?
Afaik they reported that English media reported that Liverpool agreed terms with Donezk.

His agent said, it would be a great mistake to sign for Liverpool a few days ago
If we're thinking about the same statement it was Lucescu (coach) who said that and the way he phrased it he might have meant Dortmund with that as well.

raphael honigstein@honigstein 2m
@Sky_StephanS has just reported live on air that Dortmund and Donezk have agreed the transfer.

That StephanS guy is Sky Germany's local reporter for the Ruhr area.

Kicker writing it too now. For two months Dortmund looked kind of lost and now they might very well wrap things up withing two days, even before their (real) pre season kicks off.

Dortmund's media partner (Ruhrnachrichten) confirming it too now.

I'm sure I read that his agent said that, which of course doesn't mean it's true. Quite possible the journalist who wrote the story made it up.

Götze fee well spent on Aubemeyang and Mkhitaryan, I think.

Looking forward to hearing Dortmund's crowd chant both names when the team's announced :D

Dortmund could line up with

------------Lewandowski----------
Aubameyang Mkhitaryan Blaszykowski

That really should be forbidden. They need nicknames, soon.
