Yeah, a journalist asked if Rooney has said he wants to stay and Moyes replied with something like "He's been training brilliantly."

He's gone if we get a decent offer.
:houllier: What part of he's not going to be sold did you not understand?

Do people still want Wayne if he doesn't actually want to be here, which seems to be the case?
Definitely not. Now can he be at his best or have the correct attitude if he doesn't want to be here? He's an excellent player but he's certainly replaceable, particularly if last season's form continues. If he wants to go then take the money and move on.

I think it's possible Rooney doesn't even know yet if he wants to stay, and to be fair if the issues he had with the previous regime haven't been conclusively resolved then it makes sense on his behalf. I think August is the crucial month and Rooney could still decide he wants to stay in that time. But at the moment he looks more out than in to me.

Honestly I'm not that bothered anymore. Maybe I'm getting older so football doesn't make me behave like a mentalist.

I just don't see him really agitating for a move in the way numerous other players do when they have a specific club in mind i.e Modric, Ronaldo, Berbatov, Cole, Tevez...

Where does he really want to go? Chelsea with his mates? Not happening and he knows it.

I think this cuts to the heart of the matter. Things were not right with SAF and his gut reaction was to go but then the reality of where bites and then Moyes wants him to stay and he has time with his family and friends and suddenly that decision isn't so clear cut. I think it could still go either way.

Maybe Moyes is talking him up, saying how well he's training, what great shape he's in, that he's not for sale etc, so that any potential suitors will know that it's not going to be a cheap buy.

If we sell him, it will be at a proper price, not the silly valuations that have been bandied about.

Pretty much, except I think it'd be naive to think money doesn't come into it in a big way. We saw how he was willing to act the last time he was negotiating a contract with us, I doubt he's changed since then. Even if he decides he wants to stay I don't think he'll say so, it'd weaken his position in negotiations. If he does stay it won't happen quickly imo, a protracted negotiaton is much more likely.

So, what's the verdict, then? Moyes wants Wayne - but Wayne doesn't know if he wants to stay?

That equals: Wayne is a bloody idiot if he wants away. He will get his chance, like as not in his preferred position, what more can he want? Er, apart from even more money, I mean.

Personally I found it interesting that Dave mentioned goals, the record, and so forth. He wants to turn Rooney into a top scorer again - was my impression.

It's not a big soap opera though. If somebody is interested they'd notify the club and we'd just say that, surely?

There's no need for wartime propaganda.

The most interesting part of the conference for me. When he mentioned meeting Sir Bobby Charlton at the club for the first time and the aura Moyes evoked about it (before any mention of Rooney in the press conference), my immediate thought was that he was using it to make a point about how lasting and laudable legend status at MUFC can be.

Nail on the head. Be interesting if this means we'll see Rooney as a CF again, or at the very least not playing in centre mid. (If he stays of course)

It's the 5th of July and we're days away from leaving for our pre-season tour, if Rooney asked to leave in May and hasn't committed to the club since that time even with a new manager willing to cut him some slack, i reckon the club will be more than happy to tell him to sod off.

Just a question of agreeing upon a transfer will suit all parties. We must be content to drag this one out a bit which implies that it needn't affect our spending capacity in the near term.

On your bike Wayne.

In the interests of fairness (something which I haven't been displaying about this subject very much lately), I've seen recent photos of Wayne in which he looked really slim - almost to the point of looking gaunt & unwell; so maybe DM is telling the truth & it's not PR.

There's no way I can stand watching Rooney again after twice wanting to leave.

Weird that people are taking the "he will not be sold" stance as gospel in this case, as if the club would say anything else. Now if Rooney comes out and says he's staying, then that's the matter closed.

I bet he's in terrible shape and we're just saying otherwise to trick someone into buying him for a high price. We must be feeding him burgers and beers in the cafeteria.

Hmm this post rings true to be honest.

Glad to see Moyes confirm that whatever was said between Fergie and Rooney was a private conversation between the two of them and that it has no bearing on his future with the club as far as he is concerned.

Only sticking point I can see from Rooney's point of view is the fact he is still looking to get some sort of statement that he didn't ask for actually ask for a transfer - which would be fair enough if the conversation was a private one in which he was trying to ascertain if he should stay or if he should go based on Fergie being the manager and if he didn't see him in his future plans.

Do hope this is the end of the saga for the most part and that Rooney is staying.

I can't stand Rooney now, and it looks like most on here can't stand him, but I will get behind him if he's still here come September the 3rd and hopefully all the other fans does. It's difficult enough as it is for Moyes' replacing Fergie, we don't want a situation where Rooney is booed at Old Trafford in a United shirt.

He can go for me, but if he steps onto that pitch in a United shirt i will be right behind him, and hope everyone else would too.

If he stays he should not be stepping out onto that pitch in front of other more dedicated professionals , he should be made to wait for either injury or their poor form to allow his return to the team.

There have to be some sort of consequences here for pity sake.

If he walks out in a red shirt he will get booed just like he did against Wigan but it will settle down. If it's blue, then he's fooked.

Exactly right. There were murmurs he was training well and set to sign a new contract. We all know what happened there. Sir Alex once said he wouldn't sell Real Madrid a virus.

If Rooney wants to stay, then fantastic. However, Moyes didn't hint that Rooney said he wants to stay. This concerns me. As for now, he's not for sale and my suspicion is we'll sell him to the highest bidder.
Given that in this day and age, press and PR is as much about the truth as it is mind games and psycho babble ...

I could read it another way ... which is that Moyes position is that no matter what Rooney wants, he is under contract and not for sale, and he is delighted Rooney though seems motivated to get into top condition for start of the season

He told MUTV that hes spoke with Rooney a few times and that he wants to get him that all time top goalscorer place.
Surely no one actually wants him to become the all time top goalscorer now? Surely?!

What is 'committing to the club'? He's under contract, there is nothing for him to do unless he fancies another war of words against Ferguson at the height of his popularity.

Boo fecking hoo.

Grown men who can't control their emotions over a football player. Embarrassing.

Yes, let's start hoping our players don't perform or achieve anything on the pitch, wouldn't want us to be too successful now would we?
