I would have preferred him on the right to Milner's headless chicken act and Townsend spending 90 mins cutting inside and shooting from ridiculous distances.

I think he is, they're far more dangerous with him out wide, he offers something totally different from all their other players and he can stretch sides. I've never got the stick he gets, it's like people haven't watched him for three years.

From an England perspective, Walcott has never done it for me. He's always been somewhat effective for Arsenal but really doesn't fit into the England set up and hasn't done anything of note for the most part of his international career.
It's sad that he's out for so long but I don't think it really changes anything other than a guaranteed squad place for Townsend.
