I think we've all come to realise over the past 9 years that Ted is a complete bitch.

For what it's worth, there's so much pointing towards the fact that the mother is going to kick it, so I think that's the most likely outcome. I also think that's a horrible ending and I'd prefer pretty much anything else. That's why I'm clutching at straws a bit looking for other possibilities.

I also thought that the episode was foreshadowing the mother's eventual death but I don't think that's the end of her purely down to the fact that they revealed their card too early. I think there's obviously some sort of illness that the mother has and that althought it's not looking good at the time, she'll eventually see it through and be there in 2030-present time. I don't think HIMYM will go out that way - well I certainly hope not, despite all signs pointing that way.

Ahhhhhh, that is such a good point, well thought out. God, what a morbid episode that has turned out to be then!

I did predict ages ago that Ted and Robin would get back together after the mother would die (Similar sitcoms like friends and scrubs love to do this shit).

They've squashed the idea of Ted/Robin ending up together so many times that I don't really get why people still think it's going to happen. They set in stone a long time ago that Marshall/Lily and Robin/Barney would end up together and happy, the question was always about what would happen for Ted.

Had a feeling for the last season or two that the outcome would be the mother dying. They've pointed to it a few times now though so it's a question of whether they're trying to bluff us and have a twist come the end (Imagine the comedy of the mother being alive and Ted being the one that dies ). If she dies I expect they'll do the entire 'she died but he ended up happy because he had his kids and despite her dying, he found his true love'...and that can work and not every show has to end on the most happy note possible, but on the other hand...nine seasons, nine entire seasons of this guy trying to find the one and end up happy and you then end the show with her dying, I'm not sure even him still ending up happy with his children can make up for that. God knows, I'm torn on it.

Got around to watching the last episode yesterday and they couldn't really have made it much more obvious that she's either going to end up dead or dying.

Them in the future where Ted started blubbing was 2024 if I remember right, which is 6 years before where the story is framed with him telling the kids the story. So for them to know she's terminally ill at that point she'd be doing well to still be around 6 years later.

Robin's mother was dreadful, and all the stuff with Lilly was boring.

It appears the season and series is ending on March 31st, with double episode on the night. 4 episodes in all to go.

CBS have confirmed that "Ted will finally finish telling his kids the story of how he met their mother".

So I guess they won't meet until the finale. Two more episodes of filler then.

But that final scene with Robin and her mother makes it look like she was thinking about Ted when asked that question rather than Barney, my prediction is becoming more and more likely (kind of don't want it to happen now though).

So true, they really have made it a mindfeck as to what will happen now, I'm expecting the unexpected now.

I said from the start that Ted would end up with Robin no matter what the circumstances during the show would say, and the mother would die. We all actually thought that that episode with Robin floating away would finally, finally be the end of Ted and Robin, but it seems signs like that suggest it's far from the truth.

Mind you, sitting down and telling your kids the fine details of all the girls you hooked up with back in the day is pretty fecking weird anyway, so who knows.

I'd say there's absolutely no chance that Ted and Robin will end up together, as much as they seem to be trying to make it seem like they will. The writers are just trying (poorly) to keep it interesting for the last few episodes before they wrap it up.

If Ted and Robin don't end up together, it will be stupid because will always be in love with each other and meant to be together, and if they end up together it will also be really stupid for many other reasons(Barney, that new mother, "aunt" Robin...).

I enjoyed that mostly because it was the type of episode you expect to see right before the end of a show, and any reminder of the end approaching fast is cool in my books. The first date between Ted and the mother was bloody shite, though. Nothing but forced chemistry between the two, which sort of ruins everything.
