Looking over my shoulder.
Our team isn't as young and promising as it once was. We have some former world class players who are no loner what they once were. Only discussing the ones currently playing for United, which of the senior players would you think would have the greatest impact on our team and the most vital impact?

I'm thinking first and foremost of Giggs, Rio, Evra, Vidic and to some extent Carrick. Which one would you love to see at his prime playing for the current United side?

Giggs because of how long his career has been, his prime and the amount of seasons he would have being back in his prime would be substantial.

Very tough one ,but as i always feel you need to have a strong foundation at the back.Rio.

I think Rio would be my choice. Carrick in prime still wouldn't solve our midfield issue. Giggs is a possibility, but we are already wondering how to fit the forward players into the team. It's close between Vidic, Rio and Evra but I choose Ferdinand as I think him in his prime would go really well with Jones.

We still have some promising talent. I love Januzaj and Welbeck and believe firmly in nick powell/angelo henriquez. We would benefit massively from having a 22 year old Rio back in there though... but yeah, giggs

Do we need a Rio in his prime when we have Smalling and Jones coming through?
Do we need a Giggs' in his prime when we have Mata, Januzaj, Kagawa and Welbeck all vying for places?
Is Carrick massively inferior now to where he was in 2008?

For these reasons I'd be inclined to go with either a Fletcher from 2008 or maybe even Evra as that's where we're most lacking at the moment

Scholes.

And get him to be the playmaker from the get go as opposed to an attacking midfielder them the former later on. He'd run the show every week and I'd just sit there watching in delight. Ah.

Scholes doesn't play for us.

I would take Rio.

Tough choice between Giggs, Rio and Vidic. While Giggs could blow teams away, he was also inconsistent at times and would drift out of games. Compared to our current wingers, he would look incredible, and still does even now.

Rio was a top class defender, no-one could get the better of him in his prime. There was never any need for a last-ditch challenge or a camera saving header because he was literally that good and this meant he never got the plaudits that Terry does for throwing his body on the line despite initially being in the wrong position or making the mistake in the first place.

You could make a claim for Vidic, he was also very good positionally, caught out by pace now and again but a monster aerially and a great leader at the back. You could imagine a great partnership between Vidic in his prime and Smalling now. They would complement each other and Smalling would have a defender alongside who could command that back-line.

Carrick??

Giggs or Scholes.

Imagine rewinding Giggs back to his prime, we'd have him 'til 2047. He is the correct answer here.

I'll take Rio 2006-2008 form please!

Right about the time he took up the (Nesta's) mantle as the best defender in the world

He was so good that when I heard he was playing against Barca in the 2008 semi-final, I knew United was going to win. Was it the year that Tevez scored the winner at Anfield where he performed so well? It was a game where Vidic was having an absolutely awful game against Liverpool, typically. Rio was immense though, won the game almost single handedly

Ferdinand at his peak was better than Giggs in my opinion. Always thought Giggs had great longevity but never hit the heights Ferdinand did. Not to mention old Giggs couldn't pass the ball, he only learnt that once he was too slow to dribble anymore.

Rio for sure. In his prime it was almost like having an extra man in defense because he covered the ground and read the game so well.

Rewind Giggs but introduce him to Yoga straight away instead of using it to prolong his career. A Giggs without his early injuries would have been one of the best players in the world, I think.

Rio for sure, if we could get that old Rolls Royce purring again it would be brilliant.

I'd like to take Carrick back to 26-27 and instead of taming his game as Sir Alex did once Hargreaves was injured, have him as more of a forcer. Not that I think he's been bad for us, because he hasn't, but his passing, particularly in the Ronaldo days was at a high enough level to just do more than sit deep and play the simple game.
