Could not find a thread on this guy. Anyway, what does the future hold for this guy? He has Southampton playing some enticing football and he is doing it with some English players :0. Going forward, it will be interesting to see if he can show some consistency and stability in his managing career. Maybe add some cup wins to his cv aswell to furthur his acclamation from his peers.

He's done an incredible job with them. They play some great football as well, can definitely see him taking a big job soon. He's more suited to a bigger job then a certain someone because of the way he has Southampton playing, always going for the win and playing high pressing, attacking, passing football.

He'd be my choice if we had to replace Rodgers ever. I'd be surprised if he isn't managing a top club within 5 years.

Could do with learning fecking English already!
I know it sounds very BNP like, saying 'if you're gonna work in England you should speak English' but it seriously annoys me that he doesn't.

I mean, he can, we've heard it but it almost seems like an affront. He's Argentinian as well so you can't help but feel like he's bitter against us or something.

Probably reading too much into it though.

He speaks English, he just doesn't do it in the media because the press can twist his words.

I watched them today and it was the best football I've seen from any side in the league this season, with English players the core of it. This is down to great coaching. English players can pass the ball, they can play attractive modern football, this proves it. Newcastle are poor but they should have won 10-0. He's destined for the top, no doubt about it.

He does speak English, he speaks quite good English. He only uses a translator when speaking to the press as he apparently does not want what he says to be miscontructed or him not be able to give more complex answers clearly.

And if he speaks English and they twist it he can say it's not his native language.

If he's willing to speak English to his players, and can speak English to a standard that they understand then he should do it in interviews, to hell with what the press do. Everyone knows they're bullshitters anyway.

His English is actually very good. He just doesn't want to speak it to the press because they misinterpret every word you say.
Well, I take that back then!

I think he's got a big future ahead of him.

Not sure that United could afford another 'experiment' though if Moyes falls through.

Isn't there scope for mistranslation this way though? He's relying on someone else to get it right for him, instead of himself.

That's the point. If the press do twist what his translator says then they can just say he was mistranslated.

This is still his first full season in this league.

I'm always vary of judging a manager on one good season alone. Let's see what happens next season when he has to integrate some of his own signings.

That's just pathetic really. If he can speak English he should do so. If it were an English manager in another country refusing to talk their language what would they be saying?

He has done it, but I always find this type of comment a bit bizarre. Of course - speaking the language is a big bonus - but if he can do a great job even without speaking the language, then why does it matter that much?

Personally, I think that he is the next big thing in footballa and is only a matter of time until one of the biggues take him as manager.

This is a quite bad English to be fair.

Everything has gone well for him so far, it remains to be seen what he's like when things don't go so well. That's when you find out the true nature of a manager.

Fair point.
But I'd take that as a negative if he was to be considered for any big job. Speaking to the media is a big part of being a manager and he should accept that accountability.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
I was reading a comment by Ancelotti the other day. They were asking him about his "placid" personality and he told them which of this season's Madrid games he got angry about. He says if he gets really angry with his players during/after a game, he shouts at them in Italian - "They all seem to understand."

They'd be saying, "My name is Bobby Robson and this my translator, Jose Mourinho."
Ahem :p (from 1:40 min)

Good ol´ "muito important" anglo-portuguese Robson press conferences. Seriously speaking, Robson did make an effort to learn and speak portuguese.

Keep Rodgers at Pool.
If Klopp is unattainable, this guy is the next best choice. He has a distinct style of play, and he's made Southampton's good players far better than they were under Adkins. He is the best 'up and coming' manager in the PL, and I would take him every time over Moyes, even before the last summer.

I have the same feeling, this guy is just impressive. If we sack Moyes, we should and will probably look for a more proven candidate, but if I could choose one of the relatively unproven ones it would be Pochettino. He also seems to be highly rated in Spain, wasn't there rumours about Real and Barca too (nothing concrete, but both looked at him or Mourinho thought he would be a good choice)?

You have to be a bit wary judging on the basis of one season, Michael Laudrup looked like a genius until he didn't, but so far this guy does have Southampton playing some very nice football indeed. he has the youngest of all Premier League squads and he isn't afraid of dropping a problem player and kicking them to the kerb even its your highest cost signing, Danny Osvaldo.
He could become something really special. Unfortunately I think the timing might be wrong for him and United. Even if Moyes is ditched, which he won't be until Christmas at least, he won't be a candidate. And I suspect he'll have to re-build a fair bit next season with Saints, since three or four of their top performers are going to be swiped from under his eyes.

Another good young manager though, who understands modern coaching and tactics.
