A slightly different take on a number of ongoing discussions in other threads.

List your top 5 managers who you would like to replace Moyes, and why you think they are more or less suitable than the others.

Mine:

1. Ancelotti - Experienced, stable, and well qualified. Just what we need.
2. Mourinho - Obviously well qualified, but somewhat erratic and unstable.
3. Guardiola - Seems like a workaholic, who despite his success, would be prone to early burn out.
4. Klopp - Would be ideal - young and able to motivate good players to play as a cohesive unit.
5. Van Gaal - Loads of experience at top clubs, although a bit old.

Yours ?

thems the 5 names most people will come up with. Klopp would be my choice but I don't think it will happen. I reckon van Gaal is the firm favourite and I'll take that tbh.

Pretty much the same but in a different order, probably Klopp, Ancelotti, Guardiola, Mourinho, Van Gaal.

I love the idea of Simeone but his lack of English is an issue.

I think Simeone would run into language and cultural problems in England, which he obviously doesn't have in Spain. Pochettino seems to have done well enough in a similar situation, so it could work.

Those are the 5 names everyone would come up I reckon. My order would be

Klopp: Took a relatively unknown squad to one of the strongest teams in Germany, with minimal funds .

Ancelotti: Excellent man-manager, great record, seems stable.

Mourinho: Players love him (bar his madrid stint), one of th emost successful managers ever, let alone around

van Gaal: love his footballing philosophy, asks the most out of his players

Guardiola: plays beautiful football, ridiculous record at his age

The reason for Guardiola is I don't think our current squad would bring out the same results as his Barca and Bayern team did for him. You look at the players he had/has in those squads and then look out ours, and I think it would take him ages to get it the way he would want. I may be completely wrong, but it just seems that way.

1) Klopp - leave Dortmund you beautiful man.

2) Ancelotti - leave Madrid and bring that eyebrow with you.

3) Mourinho - we have a warchest.

4) van Gaal - authority and bollocks.

5) Guardiola - would love to see him build a team from the absolute bare bones. United provides that opportunity more than others right now.

1. Mourinho - the best now Sir Alex has retired
2. Ancelotti - great pedigree in Europe, quite likable
3. Klopp - the caf's choice
4. Guardiola - great record with great squads, question mark over transfers and more than likely to get bored rather soon
5. Sir Alex - the best ever, but how long will he be willing to commit to? Long enough for any of the above to move club?

Seeing as Klopp, Guardiola and Mourinho are almost certainly ruled out (Ancelotti I think depends on how the season ends for Madrid)...replace them with de Boer, Simeone and...Conte I guess.

1) Ancelotti - A class act, tactically astute, proven pedigree with domestic and European honours. Still only 54 though so a feasible 'long-term' option.

2) Klopp - A pipe dream, otherwise he'd be my solid first choice. Everything about him just oozes United - charisma, a knack for attacking football, winner's mentality.

3) LVG - A nutjob, pathological one at that but also a winner who places emphasis on attacking football and youth development. His volatile antics could also be channeled to give our apathetic players a much needed kick up the arse.

4) Mourinho - Would have been more sold on the idea of Mourinho had it been last summer, but I'm not a fan of his playing style. Nevertheless a proven winner and certainly no short of Charisma, would be happy if we could prize him away from the chavs.

5) Simeone - Young, passionate and looks to be a manager with a winning pedigree. On the brink of winning La Liga and is in the semi finals of the champions league with an Athletico side worth the fraction of his domestic rivals. What's not to be impressed about. He also looks like a Colombian drug lord.

Special mention - David Moyes. He's looking for a job, quite resourceful and is a gentleman to boot.

To be honest naming your top 5 is easy - see the OP.

Its when you get to names 6 and above that it gets interesting.

1. Klopp - but we can't get him.
2. Hiddink - the perfect interim manager until we can try for Klopp
3. Ancelotti - affable, eclectic, personable and is used to huge names and huge clubs.

The rest are a mish-mash that I believe will bring hellfire down upon us (LvG) or are unsuited in either footballing style or personality. I'm excluding Pep from this because he's another we can't get.

What concerns me about this appointment is that there are no renowned buyers of young talent on the list. It may well be time for us to look at DoF.

When you look at the job as a whole, it's insane how much Fergie brought to the table with him. You can't get that kind of package in any one manager active, so they will need help, imo.

It would be more interesting if you asked people to name their alternate top 5 because those 5 you have names are pretty much everyone's top 5 anyway.

1. Klopp - Young motivated and charismatic. Gives youth a chance and has a brilliant style he wants his teams to play. May also swing in deals of Reus, Hummels, Gundogan etc

2. Ancelotti - Great tactician, knows how to invest wisely and has prem experience

3. van Gaal - Commands respect and authority and also likes to play flamboyant attacking football. Has a lot of experience and a winning mentality. Has been a success at club level in 3 different leagues.

4. Blanc - Not as experienced as the above but has done a decent job at PSG and also a former player, which is nice to have.

5. Guardiola - Would instantly attract the best players due to his reputation.

1. Jurgen Klopp - plays good football, has the right attitude and is a winner. Very likable guy as well.
2. Josep Guardiola - plays good football, has the right attitude and is a winner. I prefer Klopp's football.
3. Antonio Conte - Young manager who is learning english and wants to go to the Premier League. Experience with big players and a big club.
4. Diego Simeone - Winning the league over Real & Barca, nuff said. Shouldn't be that hard to learn english.
5. Frank De Boer - Young, from the Ajax total-football school, not as crazy as Van Gaal. Worth a punt.

Realistically:

1. Antonio Conte
2. Diego Simeone
3. Frank De Boer
4. Louis Van Gaal
5. Marcelo Biesla

Pointless thread unless we name 5 realistic signings or take the list beyond 5 to include the obviously unavailable ones!

1) Pep Guardiola - I firmly believe that he has potential to go as the greatest football manager to have ever lived. His style of game - while at times boring - is unique. One of the few managers who never adapts the game to limit the opponents, but forces opponents to change their game to stop him. In the interviews he looks highly intelligent and is a visionary man (the influence of Guardiola on football - only for 5 years of his work - is greater than of any other active manager). He is also known to be a bit of a cnut and a ruthless person, so despite he is friend with the players, he isn't afraid to make big decisions.

2) Jose Mourinho - In some way the opposite extreme of Guardiola. They have one similarity though, they are born winners and the success is guaranteed under them. Widely known as the biggest cnut on football, he probably isn't as bad considering that all his players would go to war with him. Ruthless as feck, be it for his players, other managers and journos. He's worthy only to see him humiliating Wenger three times a day. The style of football might be a worry though, he is ultra defensive on big matches and pragmatic on the other matches. The best tactician on football.

3) Jurgen Klopp - Probably the manager I adore most. While not near as decorated as those two other guys I mentioned, his style of football is by far the best in the world. He is the best manager on the transfer market and possibly the best coach on football. He can create extremely good teams with only 2 pennies and can win wars against clubs that have three times it finances. A bit of mental though, but very entertaining. Likely the most loyal manager.

4) Luis Van Gaal - One of the most decorated managers in the world. Winning a shitload of trophies with every club he has managed. The best manager in the world when it comes to promoting young players. Plays exciting total football and can improve limited players a lot. On the other side, he is the biggest narcisist on football, but probably with our players being rebelled in the previous regime that is a good thing. My biggest worry is that he underperforms on transfer market. Not a long term choice, 2 years, probably three if we are lucky before he'll be on bad terms with all players, board and the media.

5) Carlo Ancelotti - A very decorated manager who is the master of Uefa Champions League. Has shown on the past that he can operate excellently on a limited budget, and can do as good on a big budget. A true gentleman. With him there isn't a single doubt that all the world will have only good words to say about him. Against him goes that he isn't very good on long competition (only 3 league titles on 15 years of management), and not the greatest when it goes against other great managers.

Honorable metion - Considering that the first three are totally unavailable I would add these three on my list: Marcelo Bielsa (pretty much an even more extreme version of Van Gaal), Diego Simeone (the closest thing we have to Mourinho, while also is intimidating cause he is the head of mafia), and Antonio Conte (a fantastic young manager who hates Champions League - or that competition hates him).

1 Jose - He seemed unusually muted when asked about David's departure and has come up with some really strange remarks concerning Abramovich. We know he was desperate to succeed Fergie and maybe he's now angling for the position? Best man to take the job last summer and nothing has changed. People say his tactics at Chelsea are boring but he's a winner, has an immense reputation in the game rivalled by only Pep, has the right amount of arrogance, best tactician in the game, can play great football when he wants to and no player would dare stand up to him.

2 Ancelotti - There are rumours of a rift between him and Perez but it'll be almost impossible to extract him from Real if they don't want him gone. Tactically supreme, vastly experienced, can get his teams to play good football. Plus he's accustomed to the league and can speak good English.

3 Klopp - Everybody's darling and Caf's unanimous choice. Proponent of United style attacking football, great at developing players, good personality and mental in the right measure. But he's loyal to Dortmund and has a reputation for not reneging on his word. Can't see him moving for atleast the next couple of years and maybe not even till the end of his contract in 2018.

4 Simeone - Hottest managerial property in football right now apart from maybe Klopp. Great motivator, young, good man manager, his players give 110 % for him, tactically astute. But relatively green, has little experience high profile players, sometimes his teams are atrocious to watch, looks like a pornographer and doesn't speak English. High risk boom or bust appintment.

5 Louis - Most realistic option. Very good coach, has a unique philosophy of developing young players, his work will be beneficial for the long term, big personality. But he's a bit eccentric and has a tendency of falling out with the management at every club he's been to. I'd say this is the one we'll probably end up with but there are still 4 unrealistic options better suited for the job.

One guy we can categorically rule out is Pep. Bayern won't let him go despite Beckenbauer's claims of his football being boring to watch.

Wildcard - Mauricio Pochettino.

Not a fan of Van Gaal, because of his personality and the way he handles stars, and not a fan of Guardiola because I don't think we have the squad he needs, and I haven't seen him yet perform equally well in a different type of squad (and we're not in a position to take another major risk right now).

1) Mourinho - The world's best manager. Prem proven. Europe proven. The dogs.
2) Klopp - Fascinating guy, great philosophy, would be loved.
3) Guardiola - Huge experience, even at his age. One day.
4) Van Gaal - Maybe is needed for a rebuilding. Age and hunger left slightly against him.
5) Ancelotti - Class act, Prem proven. Would he get stuck into the club as a whole? Don't know.

Of the five most repeated names, Klopp's is the most exciting. The best chapters of the others' autobiographies are already written. Klopp's crowning glory is still to come.

1) Carlo Ancelotti- Proven in the Premier League, could very well be forced out of Madrid especially if Atletico win La Liga.
2) Louis Van Gaal- Excellent track record at top clubs, seems very much a disciplinarian which wouldn't be a bad thing right now.
3) Jose Mourinho- World's best manager, highly unlikely to be prized away from Chelsea.
4) Jurgen Klopp- My personal favorite. Great speaker, players attacking football, promoter of youth. Like Jose hard to get.
5) Diego Simeone- Hated throughout England after 98' world cup, would be a perfect fit.

Ideal world:

1. Guardiola - Proven winner, plays brilliant football would transform the club
2. Klopp - Exciting football and has won stuff too.
3. Ancelotti - Another proven winner, not quite as exciting as the other two but he'd be great
4. Van Gaal - Won loads of stuff, would play good football.
5. Mourinho - Crap football but we'd win stuff.

I wouldn't fancy Mourinho myself...he would be amazing here and would win stuff for sure but he can be a bit petulant and a drama queen......Van Gaal seems like he would be awesome but the only worry is if he has the personality for us.....but i think he does...but holland scored insane amounts of goals in WC qualification so that is exactly what we want

On Football Manager, Moyes always gets sacked and gets replaced by Marcelo Bielsa. United then go on to dominate forever.

So, Bielsa. He would bring lunacy, but also work-rate. He has no time for slouches. He wouldn't put up with any of Rooney's shite. The downside would be that he would probably destroy Van Persie's ageing knees into dust.

Realistically though, I want one of the same 5 names as everyone else. My only concern with Mourinho is the lovely, lovely Juan Mata. He's not the type of player Mourinho favours, evidently. We might not see him again if Mourinho took charge. How can you deny Juan's lovely little face? I really want the next manager to build around Mata, and Mourinho certainly wouldn't.
