Why the hell did willian not stop the ball on the goal line, get down on his knees and nob it in with his head??????? It has really annoyed me that he didnt do this. It would have been goal of the season.

I once did that on a sand-based astro in a 7 as side. I over-balanced and sknned the bridge of my nose, right down to the bone. Still got a scar to this day. On my nose and my pride. True story. Why the hell did willian not stop the ball on the goal line, get down on his knees and nob it in with his head??????? It has really annoyed me that he didnt do this. I think that's punishable for unsportsmanlike behavior. I could be wrong though. Why the hell did willian not stop the ball on the goal line, get down on his knees and nob it in with his head??????? It has really annoyed me that he didnt do this. It would have been goal of the season.
Why on earth take that risk?I thought he was going to stop it on the line for Torres to smash home.
Amazing[/IMG]
Really??? Thats ridiculous if so.I think that's punishable for unsportsmanlike behavior. I could be wrong though.
What about a Klinsmann type dive whilst headining it in?I think that's punishable for unsportsmanlike behavior. I could be wrong though.
Somebody did that recently and it didn't get picked up - was it Steven Taylor at Newcastle?.I know you definitely can't do that as a way to pass it back to your goalkeeper - that counts as a manufactured backpass.
You can do it through normal actions in the course of a game - but inventing those situations is seen as trying to get around the rules.Somebody did that recently and it didn't get picked up - was it Steven Taylor at Newcastle?.
You can knee, chest or head a ball back to the goalie, so that makes no sense it would be a foul?
You're right though - it did happen in a game recently, and I remember making a comment on this forum about how it should have been a free-kick!Subject to the terms of Law 12, a player may pass the ball to his own goalkeeper using his head or chest or knee, etc. If, however, in the opinion of the referee, a player uses a deliberate trick in order to circumvent article 5(c) of Law 12, the player will be guilty of ungentlemanly conduct and will be punished accordingly under the terms of Law 12; that is to say, the player will be cautioned and shown the yellow card and an IFK will be awarded to the opposing team from the place where the player committed the offense. In such circumstances, it is irrelevant whether the goalkeeper subsequently touches the ball with his hands or not. The offense is committed by the player in attempting to circumvent both the text and the spirit of Law 12.
So is it talking about flicking the ball into the air and heading it back to the keeper and that sort of thing? Weirdly I don't think I've ever thought about the possibility before. You can do it through normal actions in the course of a game - but inventing those situations is seen as trying to get around the rules.

Thanks, so in what context could you be "tricking" ? I can't really think of a revelant scenario of how it could happen. How would they determine it was a natural action or a planned procedureYou can do it through normal actions in the course of a game - but inventing those situations is seen as trying to get around the rules.

Not sure to be honest! I mean it's up to the ref's discretion... but yeah, I'd guess if the ball was on the floor and a player flicked it up to head it back that would be a foul? But if the ball was bouncing already and a player flicked it up and headed it in one movement that would be alright? So is it talking about flicking the ball into the air and heading it back to the keeper and that sort of thing? Seems like a pretty conspicuous grey area, once you start thinking about it.Flicking it up for yourself to head back to the keeper is definitely not allowed.
Not sure what they would do if one defender chipped the ball up for someone else to head back, mind you...
That's the best time wasting method in FIFA.Not sure what they would do if one defender chipped the ball up for someone else to head back, mind you...
This was one of the best moments, like ever! Why on earth take that risk?
