Nev smash!!
Well we fecked up the Fabregas deal last summer, yet Chelsea seemed to conclude it pretty easily. And for an unbelievably good price too.
He didn't want to play for United, and this summer he wanted to go to London. The point was, it was an easy transfer apparently because his club wanted to sell. Like Mata.

We didn't feck it up. He simply didn't want to come to United and was using us all along. The overly pessimistic tone you and @KiD MoYeS seem to love is tiresome, just because you won't get your favourite toy. We've already done better than last summer.
The inevitable favourite toy comment...this is also tiresome!

At the moment it looks like Juve are more interested in selling him to us than we are in buying him.

Marotta comes out almost daily with these kind of ambigous comments. If they really wanted to keep him, woupd they not just flat out say no or even nothing at all and just let the story die.I think Juve want to cash in while Vidal is at his peak value.

This is strangest transfer saga I've ever seen. One of the world's best midfielder is seemingly available and no one seems to be interested.Which is especially shocking for us given the state of our midfield.

However no on has a clue what we've been doing all summer. So we might be signing him tomorrow for all the British press know.

This saga is wrecking my head:(

But you specified this one, so they can't say anything if it is ongoing
Yeah because this is by far the biggest transfer story we've got this summer and I think if we're not interested/Vidal isn't interested we should have ended any links as letting them continue does nothing but get fans annoyed if it doesn't happen and gives the media/other fans more ammo to aim at the club.

As I said if we're not looking to do a deal then our silence doesn't help the club or woodwards image so I don't understand the rationale.

Hopefully we are looking to do a deal and the hold up is over price or maybe us looking to check how his recovery is going etc.

We have done better than last summer I agree, but last summer we didn't lose 4 club captains, 4 leaders and 4 rocks of Manchester united.

They need replacing, we are also at risk of losing Chich, Nani and Fellaini. We are down on first team regulars.

It's apt for me, because IMO Vidal isn't the best player to complement Ander Herrera. Muppets are obsessed with those marquee signings, whether they make sense for us or not. Vidal obviously would improve us and he could work alongside Herrera, but there are other players out there, who could help us achieve our goals as well and there's also one month left.

I'm fairly optimistic we make acquisitions, it doesn't have to be Vidal for me though.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
well....I suppose if we get beaten 4 - 0 tonight with our midfield being totally inept then perhaps LVG will tell Woody to tell Vidal to say he's unhappy..... :-)
I hate to break this to you, but Madrid have only got one forward and have only scored one goal so far. So, best to pin your hopes on throwing a dice instead.

Is there any other CM available as good as Vidal? Not saying Vidal is available but you get what I mean.

If that's the case though then we as a club should come out and say we're not interested. Either Vidal wants to come and we want him or he doesn't want to come/we don't want him, if any deal was to go ahead I imagine that personal details such as wage etc would have been agreed a long time ago so I don't think there'd be a middle ground where we're not sure what he wants.

If we're not looking to get him then you have to question our PR policy. We've done nothing to quiet these rumors and again let fan expectations rise along with Woodwards comments similar to last season. It doesn't help anyone.

To be fair, I don't feel as if the club "should" dismiss the story if it's not true. The amount of players we're linked with, you can't expect the club to say "No, we're not in for Guarin/McCarthy/Player Z".

I guess the Vidal story has been running for a while, which may differ it to the above names for example. But if it's not true, then the media have lied and spouted crap. I don't think that should force the club, to act and dismiss rumours. It's not their fault after all. Plus, the club gains nothing from saying we're not linked with Vidal if it's we're not in for him. It'll just make the media look elsewhere and potentially open up United's real transfer targets. Vidal story could be a good smokescreen.

Absolutely noting wrong with being realistic and presenting fact. You can cling to your dreams though, I'd love Vidal but I'm no idiot.

If we really are interested in Vidal and leave it until there's a day or 2 before the end of the window I'll be seriously pissed. Just get the deals done now stop fecking about whoever they are.

It's amazing how many of you lost the head to the fact we don't usually conclude deals of this magnitude and significance.

There isn't any conclusive evidence that we are even interested in Arturo, isn't it? As logical as a signing he is, it could be all paper bollocks and just wishful thinking for us fans alike all along

Its amazing really. The list of deals on this scale, regarding foreign players, that we haven't pulled off is endless. Kluivert, Ronadlinho, Robben, Essien, Ballack, Hazard, Lucas, Snjeider etc etc. We're just not very good at these kind of deals. Its not exactly a secret. I don't understand why people are taking such offense to this.

Exactly some people on here are so caught up in Van Gaal being our saviour with his renowned philosophies they seem to ignore the fact we have lost the on field presence and experience of Giggs, Rio, Vidic and Evra never mind the legend that was Buttner. Bringing in a boy who has just turned 19 and a yet to be capped midfielder, however good they are is still leaving the squad in worse shape than last season.
Whether Vidal comes or not I will be very worried if there's not at least two more very capable players signed especially as I expect more departures.
We will probably play about 8 less games this season without CL. I'd also hope we go further than round 3 of the FA cup so I don't buy we need a lot smaller squad this season either.

I don't think people get the whole picture. It's also not very clear how much interest we had in some of those deals and if we were prepared to pay the asking price. Most of the time it's the papers that blow the whole thing up.

Us muppets need this sort of rumours every window, I fully believe now that we aren't in for him. I'll be shocked if we sign him but also extremely happy and excited.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually with @Pexbo on this transfer and think we have good chances of getting him. Actually the more that Juventus CEO and Allegri say he isn't for sale, the more I believe he is. My point is, even if it doesn't happen, we can make other signings to improve us and win us titles. The impatience, the pessimism and the misery some on here seem to get during silly season is just irritating, makes me wonder why they even support United in the first place.

How do you know you're being realistic at this moment in time? We've signed one of the best players outside of Real and Barcelona in Spain. It wasn't simply triggering a release clause either, as those are quite complicated as last summer showed and Javi Martinez before that. We did feck that up last summer though.

Vidal isn't my dream signing. A dream signing for me would be one of Koke, Hummels, Laporte, Varane, Coleman, Reus, Rafinha Alcantara, Barkley or Javi Martinez. Or more than one. I just think your premature judgement regarding our transfer window is misplaced. I would complain about it after the window closes as well, if we don't make more additions.

I'm being realistic because if signing Vidal was a formality it'd be done by now. I also have long enough memory to remember how these sagas tend to end for us. Again, I'd absolutely love Vidal and think we may sign him but I haven't got my head in the sand like others.

Probably because we've gone through a good few senior management staff in the time spanning those proposed deals, so unless there's something in the water at Old Trafford, it's probably something other than "we're not very good at this" causing it. Given we've got a new manager and CEO, just finished outside the top of for the first time in premiership history with our place as the major English club under genuine threat, people thought we might spend a bit on proven class. Not that odd.

I do think LvG needs time to assess the squad. I have no doubt that we'll bring players in. There is still plenty of time to conclude some deals, but given the World Cup he didn't have the time so far to get a proper hand on the squad and who and what he needs and who is not in his plans and has to be sold/released.

We already have concluded 2 deals in positions that we need and I'm pretty sure that we're trying to bring at lease couple of players more and we have 1 month left to do so. It's not exactly curtains yet.

I agree, though I hope we can get those deals done before the season actually starts. The first couple of months of the season look good for us in terms of fixtures. We have a chance to be in and around the top if we win the majority of the games in the first 6-8 weeks, which I believe we should be doing. I hope we can take advantage of that, but the squad currently is still a little lacking.

We were interested or in for pretty much all of those.
We weren't but carry on. And even if we were just interested it doesnt mean we didnt pull those off. If you bid and got outbid cause you wont bid enough then you can say you didnt pull the deal off.

Jesus, do you just bury your head in the sand and ignore everything that goes on?

We had bids accepted/made contact with all of Ronaldino, Robben, Hazard and Lucas, and had confirmed interest in Snjeider, Ballack and Essien. How is any of that even debatable?

I edited my post.

Making contact, making bid, accepting bid or just interest, its not the same...
