Hope to see Mata, Di Maria and Herrera start with a couple of the younger ones at least making an appearance. Not expecting it but Rooney upfront would be nice. Rather not see Young/Fellaini.

Young is still out till 8th, it appears.

De Gea (no messing around tonight with a backup keeper)

    Rafael (it's about time)

    Smalling (he needs match action)

    Rojo (solid as a "rock-oh")

    Shaw (needs match action)

Blind (despite his last name, he's got great vision)

Herrera (he needs to be brought out of witness protection)

Mata (he should be able to handle a midtable League Two club)

Januzaj (torn on this one...Di Maria needs a breakout performance, but go with Adnan)

Wilson (RvP needs the rest, James needs the start)

Falcao (he needs to score a real goal)

Valdes, Di Maria, Rooney, Fellaini, Jones, Valencia

4132, no feckin around with 5 fullbacks against this side.

If, Zeus forbid, we go to a pk shootout and it's 8-8 I want to see De Gea step up, throw his gloves to the ground and score the winner for us.

We need more chances for our main team to play together in competitive matches, not resting them.

I hope we play some entertaining football tonight as I think it will be back to 3-5-2- against West Ham.

If we score early, we'll hammer them (maybe 7 or 8). If not, then it's going to be a struggle against a team (shit as they are) who will keep every last man camped in their own half.

    What I'd like to see...
    Valdes
    Valencia Jones Rojo Shaw
    Januzaj Herrera Blind di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney

Has felt a fair time, thought he ought to be back. He hasn't been that bad this season, should be more productive.
Yes. You can see LVG likes him, he played great in America, and the manager always refers back to that time. I wonder did players at the time realise how much importance he was attaching to those performances? Young, I think deservedly, is seen as having a future; I think he will do well. On the other hand LVG seems to have a bit of a set on Rafael, and I can't figure out why. His aggression would be great tonight against Cambridge and he is great in attack. But as he played for the under 21's, word is Valencia is ahead of him in the pecking order.

You'd have thought that all the players would have been busting a gut to impress their new manager. Perhaps there was truth in some thinking too much of themselves. Shame about Rafael as he clearly has the quality and is a real favourite for his attitude too. Be a huge disappointment if there is to be no place for him as he is certainly one of the most promising players of recent years.

And rightly so as he has been solid this season and Rafael as usual made of glass.

We should play our strongest team, no messing around. We have no CL, so we should go all out for this.

Ashley Young's performances have been blown completely out of proportion. It's merely the contract from the utter shite he produced last year that makes people think he can do a job for us. He can't, unless we play 3-5-2, and with any luck we'll never see that grotesque formation again.

I've got a really good feeling about this game.

    2-1 United

No, no. That's Valdez, on as a sub.

    West Ham arent exactly tough?

Have you even watched any West Ham games this year?

Andy Carroll against our defence gives me nightmares already. The game is away and Upton park is always a tough place to go and get a result.

If Rooney plays in the middle LVG should have to take a shot of tequila every time Rooney fires a 60 yard pass to the Cambridge left back.

    I'd pay to see that.
Drunkenly bending Giggsy's ear about his playing days.

"See...See, tha..that guy out in the middle?!?!"
    "Erm....Mata?"
"Yesshhh....That could have been me...I...I could have been someone....BOOOOOOO!!!"

With a bit of luck we can hopefully steal a win here. Important that De Gea is up for it tonight

will give valdes his debut in ot

diMaria, januzaj, falcao & blind will start the game. shall rest at least one of rooney/rvp also. so here my lineup:

valdes, rafael, jones, rojo, shaw, blind, herrera, rooney, januzaj, diMaria, falcao

    subs in: smalling, pereira, wilson

Put on the same attacking trio that played Saturday. They need to start building a good understanding.

And DDG on goal, no fecking around.

Probably been asked before but is the match on TV tonight?

    XI:

    Valdes
    Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Blind
    Fellaini - Herrera
    Mata
    Wilson - Rooney

Subs: de Gea; McNair, Blackett; Pereira, di Maria, Januzaj; van Persie
Aside from Valdes, that is our best back-five on paper and I'd like to see both Smalling and Rafael reintroduced to the first eleven. There really isn't much need to make wholesale changes to the team, despite the opposition so I'd continue with Rojo seeing as he's in good form and another game for Shaw to gain some momentum.

However, as for the midfield, we have a number of players who need some gametime due to the Rooney experiment and LVG's negligence in starting a few (Herrera I'm looking at you). Hopefully we will actually field something that resembles more of a midfield and not just Blind picking up the pieces. It feels harsh to omit Januzaj as he's improving and in a good vein of form, but I'd like to see Rooney start up top and we need some semblance of captain material in the team and in Carrick's absence we don't have that.

These types of games against lesser opposition, should prove more beneficial for Wilson to bag a goal or two and gain some kind of momentum that would merit a starting place ahead of RvP and Falcao. I don't see that happening for now, but he is the future and has to be prioritised in that sense.

    post.

Rafael played 90 mins last night so there's no chance he'll be involved tonight.

I am very positive. Not only that we will beat them, but I expect a very good game from us. Can't wait.
