Player Performance Threads
With rumours being thrown hard and fast; with De Gea's girlfriends unhappiness with the city, increasing signs of frustration after poor performances and no clarity on the matter. There's an alarming silence at the moment amongst the contract talks between Mendes and Woodward. It feels as if every poor performance from Casillas only delays the inevitable of a summer transfer bid.

Therefore we must be prepared for the unthinkable. I honestly hope this thread turns out to be one of those which gets locked for its stupidity at the end of the saga, but for now; let the saga begin.

Who do we get to replace Big Dave?

Lloris, Navas, Oblak or perhaps stick with Valdes?

Share your thoughts.

How much did Barca spend on their current keeper? Keeper is a position you can get away with not spending big on.

Isn't it better to create these type of threads when he leaves?

Fair point, worthy of discussion as I'm in the camp that the club will sell due to him not signing a new contract (which the club should be offering, surely?).
Cech or Begovic for me. Can't see either costing a huge amount t and could provide a good few years service, much like VdS did.
Use that time to identify a great young keeper.

Made this same thread a few months back and the Dave has yet to commit so we should at least have a list of keepers and start initial contact. Lloris would be a great choice but Levy will make us pay big time, not worth the trouble. Cech would be a really good short term solution. Begovic is a solid replacement too and the most obtainable one I think. From outside the PL Handanovic comes to mind I dont know many other young(ish) goalkeepers though and sticking to someone with PL experience is probably the way to go.

Lloris, and if that becomes impossible then ask Madrid to give us Navas.

I cant imagine United without DDG. He's been instrumental to us as Cristiano was at a time we're weaker then we ever were. His departure will dent our attraction pull especially if we're not in the CL and will make our rebuilding phase more difficult. Can you imagine Smalling, Evans and Jones defending in front of someone like Foster? Jeez that would be a terrifying prospect.

If we're not in the CL then I won't be surprised if the manager decides to give Valdes a chance. He's a well rated goalkeeper and we've got other areas to strengthen up. Also it would give him the chance to assess other goalkeepers and sign the most appropriate keeper. Another option could be Cech. At 32 he's still got 2-3 good years left in him and he's a world class keeper.

If he leaves because his girlfriend thinks Manchester is ugly then he's a fecking idiot. What differences does the aesthetics of a city make? I've been to Spanish cities - covered in graffiti and dog shit.

Cillessen imo, he was already very good last year and at the WC (bar penalties), but this year he has really upped his game, imo the best if not top3 player of the Eredivisie at least, certainly the best player of Ajax, he gets Ajax so many points with brilliant reflexes, he's a very good shot stopper, good in the air but also good at his feet, and like ddg seems to catch every shot, he'd fit LVG's philosoohy and I think he can make real progress. If not him than ofcourse proven keepers like Lloris.

He's a fecking idiot for possibly wanting to go home to keep his partner happy? United to Real is a step up, not down. Would improve his chances of winning trophies & securing the No 1 slot for Spain. I can only see win win.

So please explain what would make it so stupid?

Exactly, sell HER to Madrid and get big Dave a few fire breathing whores, job done

or else we can send Evans to Spain with DDG's GF and match DDG with Helen. The girl does deserve to live with a proper player.

Im joking of course

No, keeping his family happy is fine, but the reasons for it are vapid.

Wanting to live in Madrid rather than Manchester seems like a valid enough reason to leave, especially if you are actually Spanish.

There's only one person that can replace him and in my opinion he's not as good, Hugo Lloris.

If it happened we'd probably give Valdes a shot for a season or two.

Valdes will be our main keeper if De Gea leaves I am very sure of that. If he doesn't leave, Valdes will and we will get a bit of money from it. The Valdes purchase makes good sense indeed.

I'm sure I remember Vidic's missus said she hated Manchester about a year after he joined and look how long he stayed!
Also, the newspaper report it blatant click bait. She didn't even say the weird thing about it being as ugly as a fridge or whatever it was. The TV show host asked her if it was and I think she replied that "it's not very nice".
I've think we've got to stay optimistic with this, there's been no clear sign that he's going yet so let's not start crying about it already.

Why did he leave in the first place then?!

If she is unhappy, which is unclear because who can trust idle gossip-mongers, she needs to realise that he will be a footballer for another 15 years max, leaving them 40-50 years of blissful retirement in the town or city of their choosing - perhaps somewhere nice like Slough or Basildon.

Keep Valdes and sign a young keeper from a cold country (am certain there's a German talent somewhere) so their girlfriends don't complain about Manchester being like the back of a fridge (whatever that means).

If he does leave we should stick with Valdes, he's more than capable of being our number 1, he's had a year to settle into English life as well which should help.

I really hope De Gea isn't sold, especially in the summer when his value will plummet due to his contract.

IF De Gea leaves, then for Lloris is by far the best longterm replacement. Lets not forget we have Valdes too who is still world class.

If we're in the CL and Spurs aren't then we really should test their resolve to keep Lloris. I don't really see that much of a difference between the two of them now in ability, granted that Dave is a fair few years younger than Lloris but still he' be a great replacement.
