A really pleasing thing from the last two games has been our overall organization and solidity at the back. We've conceded just 2 shots on target total in our last two games, a brilliant stat considering we were home against Spurs and now away to liverpool. All of a sudden we've found a way to combine good attacking play and possession with good organization as well. Really encouraging signs going forward.

Shame he was banned! I like to have fans for other teams on this site.

At least now I know there are people who live in my apartment building who are United fans because they damn near woke everyone up when they started screaming after Mata scored. Well, I'm assuming that was what they were screaming about.

Louis asked the team if they wanted to play a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-3 during the week. They chose right.

This match was hard for me to watch. I feel like we did better than the scoreline suggests but at the same time could have easily drawn. DDG didn't do too well with the goal and Rooney was far from his best. I don't know if it is playing at Anfield that psyches him out or what but his passing wasn't good and his penalty miss did nothing for my nerves. I was hoping Balotelli would have gotten a second yellow...he was seriously flirting with it. So glad this one is in the bag. We have got City and Arsenal at home left and Chelsea and Everton away. None of which I am confident about but we have a 5 point cushion at least.

Was invisible in the second half when he should've dictated the game then gave the ball away for the goal. Couldn't handle the pressing. Never can. He was awful. Luckily for him, Rooney played so he wasn't the worst player out there.
We beat Liverpool away and dominated most of the game yet your fecking moaning. Cheer up for fecks sake, some people are never happy.

It took a deflection not much he could do with it. He probably would have pushed it round the post otherwise.

These last two weeks have been great.

Starting to remember what watching United used to be like.
The football over the last two games is almost foreign, even if you look at SAF's final few seasons. It's been a class of its own and we clearly have a functioning midfield now.

Was Rooney really that poor?
Not as bad as people are saying, no. He wasn't great, and stood out in that sense because pretty much everyone else's performances were, at the very least, positive. But he actually did a good job of a lot of the more thankless work of a striker, whilst failing to get the more noticeable stuff right. Of course if Di Maria had just made a straightforward early pass, Rooney would have scored today anyway.

Obviously no-one will want to concede that any 'Pool player did anything right today, but for most of the match Skrtel was all over Rooney like a bad rash, and Wayne just couldn't slip him without ending up offside. That said, dedicating so much defensive attention to marking Rooney out of the game cost them - why do you think Mata was getting on the ball in dangerous areas so easily?

A tale of two managers. One gets his tactics arseways, blames the players (we didnt make a tackle) and tells them to get stuck in for the second half, and to take less crap from these latin type midgets. He ends up defending the stamper Skyrtle, that didn't get sent off, and waffles on about the other stamp master in the post match. Note that Mata and Herrera were at the recieving end of Gerrard's boot (anyone else think the 'tackle' on Mata was a foul, too?). The other manager role plays the referee in preparation for the derby atmosphere. LVG had read the script, and deserves serious credit for strategic thinking.

Did anyone notice the 4 or so Man United supporters in the front row of the Liverpool section after Mata scored? They looked to be about 20 seats or so away from the United supporters behind the goal. I wonder how they got out of there in one piece.

Sadly missed watching the game other than the last five minutes, so can't comment on how we actually played. But that is a big result for us, and really helps us towards finishing in the top four. Hopefully Liverpool lose again next week and we can open up the gap even further. Those goals by Mata were great, particularly the second one.

Gerrad being sent off so quickly was a funny as well.

I agree, I don't think Rooney had a bad game other than the penalty and the offside traps. He held the ball well and had a few good passes although one or two were missed placed but who doesn't do that. Thought he was unfairly criticised at half time in the match day thread.

Yeah I noticed that, one actually held his arms up. :) Maybe that's who Rooney was talking about.
