Players you DON'T want us to sign this summer!

Bale - Why buy the world's most expensive player if he's not really what we need? Directness, pace and long range shooting is exactly why van Gaal bought Memphis Depay.
Cech - why buy a 2nd keeper in his 30s? We've got Valdes and I rather see a young talented keeper who's better with his feet to settle in.
Kane - must prove himself before his rumoured price.
Milner - actually rate him fairly high, but I don't think we'd need him.
Hummels - if we replace an injury prone Evans for him we wouldn't solve much. Also have a weird feeling he'd struggle.
Don't want any Dutch player except Strootman when he's fit. Holland have some good talents breaking trough but none are ready yet, they must stay at their clubs this transfer window. The older generation is shite.

I'd settle for any of Alves, Clyne, Otamendi, Laporte, Schweinsteiger, Gundogan, Schneiderlin, Kondogbia, Vidal, Pogba, Higuain

Pace hasn't been a massive part of Ronaldo's game for a while now. He just does his job inside the box. Sort of like an über-Nistelrooy with extra benefits.

I seem to remember a certain bloke called Edwin doing rather well for us despite his age. If DDG leaves we'd be bat shit crazy not to sign Cech if they're willing to let him go.

I don't doubt him as a goalkeeper, but he isn't known for his passing. That's what van Gaal wants so why not buy a keeper for the long run when we've got excellent backup in Valdes?

Because Valdes is not cut out for the PL and why would LvG want a keeper who can pass more than one who can actually command his box and deal with the aerial game that is so prevalent in the PL?

Who looks a shell, seems physically unsuited to the league and even at his best offers very little in the way of goal threat.

I'd be quite depressed if we bought Benteke to be honest.

LvG signed Valdes so I don't think he shares that view, neither do I. Valdes has his strenghts and weaknesses but I think he's an excellent keeper to have. The keeper plays an important role in the passing game and can't make mistakes, Valdes is excellent at it. Valdes was bought because Lindegaard didn't fit the keeper profile, why buy Cech who doesn't either? If Pep were to take over and continue the style of football van Gaal brings to the club he would prefer a keeper who fits that profile.

It's looking likely that he won't feature much in midfield because he'd lose too much possesion if he uses his strenghts as dribbling and crossing. I think he's suited to the right wing if the team is more settled in the sort of free role Mata had. I also don't write off players after one bad season when they've shown they got quality. He wasn't bought for goals, he has different attributes.

LvG and Pep would both need to realize they aren't in Kansas anymore, just because they have these profiles doesn't mean they are applicable in this league. LvG realized pretty quickly that we need physicality in midfield, surely he is smart enough to know that a keeper that can deal with a constant barrage of crosses is more important than one that can pass a football. If we start the season with Valdes in goal the title challenge wouldn't get started as every team would see our glaring weakness and exploit it.

If you want him to cross it then he really is better off on the left where he could whip it in quickly, cutting inside is not his strong suit as he's a poor shooter. It's not a case of writing him off mate, I've seen struggling players adapt before, but with Di Maria I see a player who has regressed across the season rather than showing any signs of getting used to the PL or LvG's demanding system. I also recall LvG saying that he sees his front 3 as strikers and demands goals from them all.
 
Bale - assuming he costs more than £50m, which he would.
De Bruyne - don't see where he'd fit in unless we ditch Mata, which I don't want to
Cavani - if we're getting a new striker I'd rather a young one who won't mind being used a bit more sparingly.
Higuain - same as above, and unless he has improved massively this season (admittedly only seen him play twice in 14/15) he's not better than Rooney
Kane - fits the aforementioned criteria and is English, but let's wait until he's had more than one good seaaon
Cech - Valdes is no mug
 
I don't think we've been linked many players I strongly dislike (yet).

I'm not overly keen on Clyne - we'd be overpaying and I don't think he's anything remotely special.

I also hope we steer clear of Cavani.

Meh... He's a better Henderson which is the issue, he's not going to be displacing our 100k a week likely future captain and a midfield with those two in it would be easily pressed and lacking in guile and ability to dictate a game. He's also reportedly turned down a 165k a week deal with City on the very basis he'll be starting in midfield for us so there's no way he's coming here to play on the wing.

We need genuine first team quality we're severely lacking in players who will consistently deliver week in week out. Excellent squad player and a great addition to an already established side. To one which at the minute has no clear identity he's a 100k in wages that I'd rather see put towards a striker worthy of the name.

Good list. I would exclude Gündogan and for the right Price maybe Clyne and Kane.

I would add Schweinsteiger and Ronaldo to the list.
 
Benteke - Bad fit for the style we attempt to play
Cavani - Again a bad fit and overrated imo
 
Clyne - Not good enough, another vastly overrated Englishman
Cavani - Don't rate him that highly and would cost a bomb
Ings - Meh 11 league goals, obviously not United level
Vlaar - Hes not that good
Benteke - Decent player, but hes not at our level yet, seems quite limited in his all round play too
Sterling - For the price he would cost around £50m there a far better players, plus he seems like a bit of a prick, and he hasn't exactly been that great this season either
Dante - Seems to be in decline
Van der Wiel - Why? Does no one remember Euro 2012?
Gaitan - Hes still @ Benfica for a reason (not good enough for a top club)
Milner - Decent player, but I think we have enough "decent" players, we need quality and he aint it.
Lloris - Somehow this guy is talked about as being one of the top keepers up with DeGea and Courtois in the league.... vastly overrated if you ask me, and has mistakes in him, will cost you 2 goals a season at least. Decent keeper though, but not an upgrade on Valdes
Hummels - For a £35m CB I don't want a slow player, who often makes mistakes

Only no to RR as we dont need a LB already well stocked in that position, no to PP cos he has had his chance and whilst he may turn out to be top class he has a long way to go yet.
 
I think people are mad to not want Cech, I'm just thinking they're people who never really watched Valdes at Barce. He's good with the ball and calm, but he is a dodgy goalkeeper. He's not the level a goalkeeper needs to be for one of the best sides in the world, or else he wouldn't have been available on a free

I'm seeing this a bit here, either of those would be perfect, we already have someone young who we can develop in James Wilson, I'd rather just buy ready made players, we can't be lookin to the future when we haven't won a trophy in 2 years.
 
Cavani and anyone else older than 26. We shouldn't build a team that can win the league next season but will need a serious rebuild one or two years after that due to the average age of our team. It's okay to have experienced players in the team, which we already have more than enough, but we also need to go for the next generation of super stars. Players like Pogba are the ones we need to get into this team because otherwise they will end up with Real, Barca or Bayern and we will never be able to close the gap.

Benteke - Crap
Ings - Not good enough
Bacca - Old and crap
Sterling - Overrated crap. Also, plays for Liverpool.

De Jong - See Dante/Bacca
Indi - A walking red card


Sod it, add Messi to that list. Needs a good team around him to be successful.

I see where you are coming from, I was just thinking that we already have Rooney and RVP who are experienced, so:

RVP
Rooney
New striker 21-25
Wilson

would give us quite a good mix

That said, I think that Rooney is finished as a top level striker so I would gladly see him replaced by Higuain or Cavani but I think that might be a bit radical for LVG

I always thought that Valdes was the weakest link in a brilliant Barca side - mind you they barely needed a goalkeeper they were that good at keeping the ball
 
Bale, ridiculous price for somebody who might not fit in and might not be an improvement over what we have... If Di Maria leaves though, then it's different.
Ings/Benteke/Berahino/Barkley/McCarthy/similar average players in the prem - not good enough.
Cavani/Higuain - never rated them really
Kane - Could yet be a one season wonder

That's with players who at one point or another have been linked with us, definitely missing some others.
