2 of Schneiderlin Carrick and Herrera with a 10 is good enough tbh
Herrera has shown he can do a good defensive job already this season, hes not the best at it, but hes good enough to do a good job if next to Schneiderlin
I think it might've been good enough if we had an established, experienced, regular backline. Right now we don't.

Front 3 options; Rooney, Firmino, Mata, Depay, Di Maria and Young.

Midfield 3 options; Carrick, Gundogan, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Fellaini, Blind.

Just not a LVG signing for next season. He's rolled the dice on Depay, the rest will be proven stars IMO....

We'll buy one :D
We can't for next season. At least, not a complete one. And buying in so any defenders also invites problems like settling, cohesiveness and potential language difficulties.

Could remind one of Suarez during his first year and a half for Liverpool in terms of workrate, style and abilities.

I've deleted a load of Herrera nonsense, any more will result in threadbans and warnings.

He'd be a steal for £13m. Let's get it done!

I'm torn on this one. A part of me thinks he could be huge, and another part of me thinks he'll just be as effective for us as Kagawa (despite being different players, yet same position - maybe Firmino is more versatile).

Seems to have good attributes. I just can't see it as a LVG signing.

He's got more individual physical qualities than kagawa. While he did well on the ball for us he really struggled with being shoved onto the wing, and clearly didn't enjoy the "fight". I think firminos running is much stronger, and if played IMO he will be a line leading striker running the channels.

Totes, the guy is starting for Brazil at the minute.

Kagawa is/was a bit of pussy really unfortunately.

I hate signing players after a mojor tournament... He will have a nice tournament and his price will go up like 10 million in no time... On top of that his performance may draw attention from other clubs...

I really like this guy, hope we sign him.

agreed, would like to see us get this deal done asap. The prices going around, approx £15m I believe? make him a steal at that price.

Watched him a few times earlier this season and he looks like a great player with bright future ahead of him.

Yay! Yet another #10 to add to our growing collection of #10's none of whom actually play there because Van Gaal plays a formation that doesn't use them. He's not even better than what we have already.

Doesn't really matter what he costs. 15m or 30m, he won't improve us.

That's the spirit!

This guy can actually play in a variety of positions, one of which is upfront which may well be an area that needs strengthening pretty soon.

He's a second striker. Very different from leading the line which is what he'd have to do if he's played as a striker. If we want a striker, we should go out and buy one. Not someone who "can" play there.

We have Rooney who is a first class striker, no need for a big dog for backup.

He's playing as a false 9 for Brazil. That's the position I can see him playing for us other than on the wing or #8. I wonder if Van Gaal would actually consider using a false 9.

I don't think so, before the worldcup van Gaal explained he doesn't like a false 9 - not even Messi. That's why this transfer would be a bit weird imo as he'd be cover for positions we won't need it as bad, and he's not the right type for a striker either.

With proper wide forwards like Depay/Mata/Di Maria i would imagine he would yes.

Indeed. We have a few players who can play in behind. He might be able to play wide, or upfront if he has to, but we've had square pegs in round holes for too long.

What is the right type for a striker?
Good hold up play?

Olic and Kluivert are the only 2 strikers i can think of he seemed to like

The position of forward has evolved quite a lot over the last decade, maybe LvG isn't as stuck in his ways as many hink.

RVP, Kanu, Kluivert, Olic, they are tall, powerful and skilled. They need to be able to control the centrebacks and they need to be cerebral, not very instinctive, because for example in Van gaal's systems the opposite winger runs between the cb and fullback and play the ball at the second post, the striker regularly need to run in the opposite direction of crosses.
Van Nistelrooy and Solskjaer were good at doing that.
