I hope Ibra shows up Blind for what he is today. Not a centre back. That way we can stop playing this pointless 'playing players out of position' shite again and stick the players that actually play there instead.

The persistence with Blind at CB is confusing, there wasn't a massive effort to play with a LCB last season. And Mike was surely our best CB last year, it seems Jones has usurped him? Or maybe Jones-Blind complement each others strengths.

what a fantastic looking team.
With Schneirderlin, Herrera, Smalling and Januzaj in reserve, it looks so balanced.
We are just one world class centre back away from having a starting XI good enough to challenge the very best in world football.

Still believe LvG is testing his options while he has time, and we will see Smalling start the 1st match...

Players aren't born with set positions you know. Blind has great positioning so he could make a good centre back. People complain about his lack of height, but that never stopped Cannavaro, Puyol, Mascherano or Danny Blind being top class centre backs.

Still don't think that a Rooney, mata, depay, young front four is anywhere near the elite of Europe, especially with mata at RW and Depay at cam. If we keep Di Maria then maybe there's potential, but at the minute it's looking like we are well behind even arsenal.

Scirea, Moore, Baresi and Beckenbauer too.

Carrick is better than Blind at everything. Better positioning, better at reading the game and better at defending but even he isn't a great centre back. He's even taller! Smalling is our best defender. There is literally no reason why he shouldn't start.

I just hope we don't carry on these stupid experiments into the new season like we did last year (albeit some of it last season was down to injuries). Just when I think I'm warming to Van Gaal, he does stupid shit like dropping Smalling for Blind and benching possibly our best midfielder.

I couldn't agree more.

I was really hoping to see Adnan or Pereira get a start with the senior filled team, I'm also not keen on Schweinsteiger and Carrick in midfield together, too one paced and similar.

this is our last match before tottenham, right? Why still starting with Blind in defense?

I'd say that's a definite confirmation of Blind at cb against Spurs then. He was decent against Barca but I still don't like him there. His performance against Ibra will likely be more of what we can expect in the Premier League. Lacks strength to play the position imo. Not playing our tallest player (Smalling) against Ibra is asking for trouble tbh. The rest is what I expected.
Blind will get eaten alive by Harry Kane if he plays at CB for the opening match.:nervous:

Blind is better at passing than any of our centre backs, maybe distribution is the reason. The slow way we play means the centre backs have the ball a lot, so they have to be very comfortable on the ball.

There's a reason.

Just to clarify, I'm not for it, but it can be justified if you try hard enough.

Taking the next corner instead of Jones!
Evans could very possibly be off, I have a feeling that he'll play Smalling alongside Blind for Spurs but needs him alongside Paddy when he makes changes for stability. Be very surprised if Jones is above Smalling in the pecking order
Bang goes that theory … LvG's talking about players playing 90 with only 3 changes on MUTV right now

Carrick - Schweinsteiger might suffer from the same issues that Bayern had with Basti - Alonso.

Still waiting for the day we see the midfield three of Herrera - Basti - Schneiderlin
