Not long now! I think I'll have a hard time sleeping tonight, so excited about it. I feel this tweet captures the essence of the situation:

Why are people putting Bastian in their starting line-ups when LVG has already stated Bastian lacks fitness and wont be starting?
I'd be surprised if he even makes the bench tomorrow. Basically, he is where Shaw was this time last year.

Bit surprised when i see what lineup people predicts.
Doesn't look like people have paid too much attention during pre-season and press conferences.

The only spot i'm not 100% sure on, is the gk, but it makes most sense if Johnstone starts, since Valdes is out, DDG's mind is somewhere else, Lindegaard won't play, and i am pretty sure Romero is too fresh in the team to start after just a couple days.
The back four have been leaked, if the things i've read is true.
Darmian, Blind and Shaw will start, and i am pretty sure i read that Smalling gets the last spot.

As every other United supporter, except LvG, i have a weak spot for Herrera, but i after watching the pre season games, it doesn't look like he'll start.
Carrick will play most matches when fit.
LvG said Schweinsteiger isn't fit enough to start yet.
Which gives Schneiderlin the last of the two defensive midfielder spots.
During pre season, Mata, Depay, Young and Rooney, started most of the games as the front 4.
So with LvG playing 433 with the midfield pointing forward, the attacking midfielder, which to me looks like a #10 or #9, will be Depay, with Mata and Young on the sides.
    Rooney will be our striker.

So after following the pre season tour, and watching, or reading about, interviews, our lineup will be something like this.

    -------------Johnstone
    Darmian-Smalling-Blind-Shaw
    ------Schneiderlin--Carrick
    Mata---------Depay------Young
    -------------Rooney

And we pretend that this 4231 formation, is really the 433 as LvG claims ;)

(Edit* I might be wrong about the Smalling vs Jones bit, but pretty sure i read it somewhere!)

    I hope it will be
    ------GK-----
    Dramian-Smalling-Blind-Shaw
    Bastian-Schneiderlin
    Mata------------------------------Depay
    Herrera
    Wazza

I know LVG will not play Depay as LW and Herrera will be benched though.

Suddenly I feel a little nervous. The De Gea situation is a big blow and I don't fancy Blind at the back either.

    Refreshing.

Who do Spurs have with pace on this team?
In comparison to Blind, pretty much every outfield player.

Just can't see us winning this one - for no real reason other than the De Gea and CB situation dragging out over the summer. Feels like a story that is destined to have petrol poured over it when the football gets going again.

2-2, with Memphis and Rooney getting United's goals.

No one really but they are all faster than Blind.
That's really important for all those times both centrebacks have to break into sprints each match.

What are the odds for Darmian and Pedro forming a bromance on the right? We'll have our very own Pedarmian to go with Shepay and Juander.

To all the Herrera fans in here going to Old Trafford tomorrow; please chant ANDER! from the top of your lungs as often you can until he is on the pitch. I'd love to see OT erupt whenever he might come on. Maybe it will speed up the process of getting him into the starting IX, which might #BeTheDifference between winning the title or not.

I agree with you, seems the logical lineup. Not too confident in Blind going up against Kane all game. Could put a lot of pressure on whoever's in GK.

Thanks! I may end up using that too. Have a work travel commitment that came up (will be on a flight at kick off). Big anti-climax.

Will have to keep myself from coming on here to find out how we did till I can get to a screen and watch a replay!

@Tasberry the lineup predictions also reflect that we don't trust LVG much to show off all his cards to his opponents in pre-season. A lot of posters here still think Herrera is going to start and Depay will be on the wings (even though pre-season indicated otherwise). Or for that matter, Blind will not play CB.

Will be interesting to see what happens today. Finally all the talking about what we are going to do this season stops, and the season actually begins. I for one am expecting a title challenge, even though we have some unanswered questions in the squad.

    We have three-four unanswered questions:

    GK - a clear Mess
CB - kinda mess. Rojo and Smalling/Jones should be fine in front of a better midfield.
Pacey, creative winger - Pedro looks imminent.
Backup ST - Hernandez is a fine replacement, although too many rumors around him to count him as one.

Who do Spurs have with pace on this team?
They had a fair few people last time we played the, and they all did nothing as we hammered them 3-0 with a much weaker side then the one we will play tomorrow. Think de gea made 1 save all game too. I think people just don't realize that defensively, we've improved immensely because we have schneiderlin and Carrick in the side now, or Schweinsteiger, so we won't collapse when Carrick is injured like last season. That alone should be worth 10 points imo.

People on here have just become incredibly pessimistic with all things United since fergie left.

Why isn't Sean Goss available for the lineup selection?
He probably won't make the bench for this match, but I think he'll be one of eighteen in a match or two during the season. I mean, if Varela is there, why not put Goss there as well?

Anyone who knows if he's still training with the first team?

Johnstone isnt on loan, he got a number.

Anyway we'll get slaughtered tomorrow. It wont be pretty.
No white text? I thought you were not overly pessimistic.

We are over-estimating spurs. They have played two games this week, haven't been in top shape in pre-season, don't have quality of mid-fielders we have. If we dominate midfield, the the defenders hardly come into equations and Harry Kane is out of picture, along with Johnstone.

Any indication that Johnstone will start ahead of Romero, or just poeple guessing?
