Like I've said, there's no news regarding Cillessen at all. He hasn't even been linked to us once by a trusted source, only by de Telegraaf who in the same article mentioned Muller and Gaitan.

The only links of him to MUFC are done by media from outside of Holland and I can't think of a transfer in the past they've gotten right regarding the Eredivisie that VI didn't know about. I still don't think we'll go for him if de Gea leaves but if we do that story will leak out within 24 hours. So for the people who don't want him, there's 0 reason to panic.

We moved for Blind late last year.

Were the Dutch media last year saying that was going to happen?

Overstated. Any quality keeper will adjust to a new league soon enough. I think Lloris will be overpriced and he's overrated.
He's the best option out there.

Were the Dutch media last year saying that was going to happen?

They broke the story right after we contacted Ajax, Blind was absent from training and it became apparant why very quickly. They also broke the news on Memphis, it was already leaked that we enquired but did not make contact afterwards for a while. The night before we signed Memphis a small article popped up saying we made contact again.

If we go for Cillessen the same will happen, VI will know about it in no time. It's just that so far we haven't even enquired yet whilst Ajax really don't want to sell Cillessen, not saying that they will or possibly can block a transfer mind. They were willing to sell Blind so a deal was done quickly, it'll be a bit more difficult with Cillessen who they want to keep and need to replace when sold (they couldn't replace Blind in time). So we may sign him or we may not, but saying he's more likely than any other keeper in the world is just pure speculation because Cillessen is Dutch imo. He's a good goalkeeper but not the finished product, I just assume there are better prospect keepers out there we could get if we don't go for a ready-made experienced replacement of de Gea.

I'm just getting a bit annoyed of people believing the English media speculation on this one when in fact nothing has happened yet that would even suggest that we are interested in Cillessen.

It's not overstated, we practically had to retrain De Gea who didn't know what commanding his box and dealing with an aerial threat meant. Lloris has been a successful keeper in the PL for a number of years now and is ready made to step straight in as we don't have the top CB's we had while wet nursing De Gea up to speed.

De Gea was also only 19 when he signed him, he wasn't the finished article and was still learning even at Atletico. You make it sound like we bought a very experienced player who we had to mould into a PL level goalie. I don't think we're even in for Lloris tbh. There's no chance we're signing two Spurs players if the Kane links are to be believed and come to fruition.

He's the best option out there.

Then God help us and football. Lloris is not even world class. My main gripe is how much Spurs are going to ask for him. Its not my money though

I still believe he's high on our shortlist should De Gea leave.

I think he'll be on the shortlist, but nowhere near the top of it.

Who'd be top of the list in your view? Cillessen is the keeper thats the most strongly linked to us. He's actually the only one right now. Oblak was the last. When we were linked with Romero for the backup role some people thought it was a joke until it happened, but others felt it was on because of LVG's connection with Romero in the past. Its the same thing with Cillessen with Hoek reportedly advising LVG to go for him. He's top of the list IMO. Lets see what happens with the DDG situation

Agreed, he's at the top of the list. As we saw with Romero, LvG is comfortable pursuing players he knows, trusts, and has worked with before, despite their not being the type of signings who are necessarily impressive from a fans perspective.

Alternatively, if the right keeper isn't available this summer, I'd be happy to proceed with Valdes (if he and LvG can kiss and make up) Romero, and Johnstone.

IF De Gea does go, you'd imagine Cillessen will be at Old Trafford within days.

A guy from the newbies called @Ajaxsuarez sent this to me @NL Max.

He keeps going on about how VI is the only Dutch newspaper that's trustworthy, but that's because he's not an Ajax fan, and doesn't realise that de Telegraaf (which is a rubbish newspaper in general) is actually the Ajax 'In the know' paper,
similar to Bild and Bayern. If De Telegraaf says reports something about Ajax, Ajax fans assume there's truth to it.

Similarly, NL Max responded to a tweet bij Mike Verweij in may about Cillessen

"Random Dutch guy saying there will be an article in the Telegraaf tomorrow, guess you could call that reliable. No idea if the article is, will have to wait. It says we're interested in Cillessen, but I have my doubts about that. He's a good goalkeeper, but we can do better."

This 'random Dutch guy' is the Ajax journalist within de Telegraaf, and pretty much acts as a mouth piece for the club. Again, if he says something about Ajax, it's assumed there's truth to it.

Could you maybe mention this in the Cillessen thread, cause it's been bothering me for ages.

(feel free to add my opinion on Cillessen as an Ajax seasonticket holder as well, which is that he's a very good keeper, extremely calm head, great 1-on-1, great line keeper, amazing positioning, Decent on crosses. Obviously shit at penalties, and I think his distribution isn't as good as seem to be said, though he is comfortable on the ball. He was the only reason Ajax didn't have their worst season ever last year and personally got us to that second place, having a very similar season for us to what De Gea had for United. I'd say people underrate him because of his face and his rather unspectacular goalkeeping. He's the best Dutch goalkeeper since Van der Sar, but I'd put him a level below VdS. Definitely a lot better than Romero though, and I'd say he'd be a good keeper for United, though maybe not an amazing)

Its funny cos its true
That and him being shit at penalties.

That's how I felt initially because he seemed like a very underwhelming replacement for De Gea. He still is, and I'm still not warming up to the idea, but I'll trust LvG, especially since he had VdS and Hoek is in the staff.

As long as he doesn't turn out to be on the level of Carroll, Barthez, etc. or worse, we'll manage.

Things would be fine if we had a good partner in defence for Smalling. We'd have a very good back 4 and a gret midfield protecting it....

And no, I don't mean Phil Jones!

To be fair he had Hoek at Bayern and did not want Neuer.

Well, I don't expect coaches to get everything right. We had Pogba and just let him go.

Sure it wasn't some politics dispute? Like they were forcing Neuer on LvG. We all know the latter is very stubborn.

On the Neuer issue:

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11890/6787801/van-gaal-in-neuer-admission

Youngster Thomas Kraft is currently No.1 keeper at the Allianz Arena, but Van Gaal would be happy to have Neuer on board to provide competition at the club.

"I think we could do with Manuel Neuer," Van Gaal told Bild. "A top team needs two top players in every position - in goal is no different.

"If Kraft can not accept this, then I recommend he leaves."

And where have we heard the "A top team needs two top players in every position" before? All this season, it seems plausible the philosophy does include two top players per position.

I think it's more likely Louis' refusal to sign Neuer was political because the board were very, very unhappy with his decision to promote Kraft from the youth team, they had plans to sign Neuer, Kraft was a youth academy product and the board didn't want problems with the fans, Louis was likely annoyed at the fact the board wrestled with him on footballing matters.

I would be okay with that myself

If DDG goes we will have
Romero
Johnstone
Lindegaard

So if we get Cillessen, Johnstone will go on loan?
Will Lindegaard be happy as 3rd choice? Sold?

I would sold Lindegaard and let Joel Pereira be the 3rd choice GK (who will almost never play anyway).Johnstone should go on loan if he's 3rd choice.

His kit was moved to U21s for apparently refusing to play in some U21s games for United last season. Its a strange situation as the U21s had finished their season before LVG played Valdes in goal against Hull, even though we had Lindegaard to replace DDG. Don't get what happened after that but LVG doesn't want Valdes in the first team any longer. Also at the Spurs game Valdes was the only player in the stands not wearing the United suit and tie, probably not a big thing but wearing the club colours in the stands shows solidarity in the team imo.

ah just want to know why it's "Shame"

Its evident that Lindegaard and Valdes are on sale. Also if we bring a new GK than DDG will leave

Our goalkeepers are

1st goalkeeper- DDG or new keeper
2nd goalkeeper - Romero
3rd goalkeeper - Johnstone

Barcelona have agreed a deal with Ajax to sign goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to Sky sources, paving the way for Claudio Bravo to join Manchester City and trigger Joe Hart's exit.

Cillessen - a 27-year-old Netherlands international who has been with the Dutch club for five years - was left out of Ajax's defeat at home to Willem II on Saturday ahead of his move to the Nou Camp.

Barca announced on Saturday that an agreement to sell Bravo, who has been their first choice since he joined from Real Sociedad in 2014, to Pep Guardiola's City has been reached.

Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague also reported on Friday the clubs had agreed a fee of around £17m and Bravo's family were telling friends they are moving to Manchester.

But he also disclosed that Barca boss Luis Enrique's pursuit of a replacement was instrumental in the timing of the deal, with the Catalan club's technical secretary Robert Fernandez also admitting they were waiting to secure a replacement before allowing Bravo to move.

Guardiola's desire to sign Bravo means that England number one Joe Hart is almost certain to leave the club before the deadline.

Sky sources understand that Hart has informed the club he wants to leave, with Everton, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund all having expressed an interest, and Hart is open to a move abroad.

Hart has been left on the bench for City's opening two matches of the season, with Guardiola preferring Willy Caballero for victories over Sunderland and Stoke City.

So Cillessen is leaving Ajax after the Rostov game (he’s conceded 4 so far) tonight.

Surely they've got a youngster to fill that spot? I mean, Jesper really doesn't offer much besides being comfortable on the floor, so surely they're better off saving a little cash and promoting youth?

Cillessen is one of the Worst GKs I've ever seen. Strange move.

I don't like it either. The logical and most often rumoured option was Diego Alves. But Unzué is entrusted with scouting the keepers, same one who identified Bravo at Sociedad in 2009. Have to hope he's seen something here that can be salvaged but all I see really is a sloppy keeper

For such a great club Barca do make some questionable signings.
