 I remember Moyes didn't like training with the ball. Apparently, LVG doesn't like to practice finishing.

Darmian, Rojo and Fellaini were particularly poor I thought

There were a few positives there (signs of an understanding between Martial and Memphis, and an overall decent attacking display aside from the last fifteen minutes), unfortunately overshadowed by a serious injury to one of our best players so far this season. Kind of thing that happens and sometimes it's out of our hands. We need to cool the knee jerks.

I'm just going on The Caf
Reminded me of the Swansea game last season at 1-1 I was thinking if this ends in a draw I'll be annoyed as we were so on top then we somehow manage to lose.Unbelievable.

No attacking option from the bench.

Hoof it to Fellaini when we are losing.

Smalling and Fellaini were strikers in the last minutes.

Enough said.

Shaw injury is a huge letdown.

All in all less said tonight the better.

Mata, Harera and Fellini only trying set a goal for some one else they should try to score, really frustrated with them.

I really thought Carrick should have started today. Or Schneiderlin. We looked far too vulnerable and even though we had so much of the ball, they looked like scoring whenever they broke.

I will write once tonight as i don't want to get angrier.

This is not about winning or losing. This is not about bad decision by the referees. This is about a young man's life and career. I couldn't care less about the result to be fair. Bad tackles happen but SCISSORS is not a bad tackle. It has been and is a malicious move and whether it is intended or not, the one who does it should be punished. I like football, you know, the football part of it but while there is one person who decides the faith of a whole club, football will never be what it could be.

How to win a Champions League game? Break someone's leg!

Shame.

Lets not dress this up as something it's not - that's a very poor PSV team. However having said that I was encouraged that we were taking more risks and taking the game to them. Just seems every time we try being more risky we get unlucky, have a nightmare in front of goal or lose concentration at the back.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Bringing Fellaini on as a sub is absolutely fine. That's exactly the role he should be taking for us.

The problem was we took off Herrera leaving us with pretty much no midfield, leaving us with that shit that we saw for the last 20 minutes or so. Mata should have been the one to come off, as he had a terrible last 30 minutes or so.

Too slow

Young - garbage
Bastian - slow, indecisive + passive

Needed Carrick to control the game

I've said it over and over, and I'll say it again.

It wasn't just 'one of them games'
It was slow build up play.
If LVGs philosophy is to let teams get into a defensive shape and make them difficult to break down, then we are excellent at doing it

I'm surprised to see the level of negativity taking into consideration what happened to Luke Shaw. It affected me all game so I can only imagine how it affected the players.

We actually created some good openings and had 4 clear chances on top of the one goal we did get, finishing needs to improve as we already know.

The biggest worry is when you look at what we had to bring on when we were chasing the game, Fellaini and Valencia don't exactly inspire you.

Our attack just isn't good enough. We have no depth at all.

Today, we created a few chances and couldn't finish. On another day, we won't create anything and probably score a flukey goal.

Terrible night all around. We started well, were playing quick and making chances, then Shaw gets the horrific injury. Rattled for a few minutes as you'd expect, then we regain control, score a really nice goal, miss a few glaring chances and then the cnut who shouldn't be on the pitch scores (or Blind og really, as Young would have cleared it). Second half we start well, they get a lucky break, score, and then the last 30 minutes were just poor from us.

We don't know how to play when chasing a game I think. You need to take risks and nobody was doing that really. Half of them looked knackered as well and could barely move the last 10 minutes. Just an awful night.

Referee sends off Moreno as he should and it's a completely different game too, as I said definitely one of those night where everything goes to shit.

Some major overreaction in the matchday thread. Mata wasn’t terrible and we did go with a lightweight midfield. We didn’t have to. Then Louis makes a terrible sub in throwing on Fellaini for Herrera, further limiting our strength in midfield and people get all upset about Mata not being able to dominate a midfield with a clearly tired Bastian. And what does Fellaini do? What he was of course going to do unless he came on as a #10: slow us down and lose more possession.

Terrible about Shaw. Absolutely devastating.

But there are major positives in the game - this is where we saw Martial can become our main striker and we look threatening with him, he’s strong in holding up the ball and his link up play is top class for a 19 year old. Lining up with actual wingers makes us better. Maybe we’ll see youngsters get a chance on the right.

I think we were extremely unfortunate to lose the game. Bad mistakes for sure, but we looked much the better side IMV, until van Gaal made his subs.
Sorry, but I stopped reading when you said Mata wasn't shite. It was one of his worst performances u have seen in any shirt. He's a very good player but not saying he was poor today is ludicrous.

One of those nights, couple of poor performances but I thought we looked dangerous going forward. Shaw injury is the biggest blow.
Yeah I agree. I don't think you can read to much in to it, loosing Shaw the way we did and then having to bring in Rojo for his first game of the season caused issues.

I thought there were some positives to read in to the attack, obviously it won't click straight-away and Martial/Depay have lots of areas that need to be refined in their decision making but you expect that.

Most disappointing thing is how we respond to going down. I think Fellaini is a good weapon but we should still look to build moves rather than just lump it to him.

Some absolute shite being spoken after a loss as usual.

The fact is we played well. We created enough. We gave away two ridiculous goals in just about the only time they got near our goal.

What was a complete joke was the last ten minutes and the substitutes where it was all made far too easy for them.

I think the injury to Luke Shaw has left a bigger impact then the defeat on me. I wish him a speedy recovery, he has been our best and consistent player this season, LVG even said he expects a big season from him and it's all been jinxed... I'm fecking gutted for him...

Can't believe LVG injured Rooney and Shaw, give Darmian a brain fart, organise a referee who can't see pen if it hit him in the face, gave Mata the touch of a rapist in the final 3rd.
He shipped out all of our strikers except Rooney (who couldn't finish his dinner--well, actually...) and brought in a 19 year old. He refused to sign a centerback and is playing a CM there instead.

Rubbish, pathetic, heartbreaking injury for Shaw. Distraught for him and for the team. But I don't blame the PSV defender, it's just one of those things, shit happens.

Our performance was OK. We lost lots of mojo after Shaw's injury but then managed to get in front. Had several chances straight after that, get one of those and 0-2, we win the game. we should have been up at half time.

Mata missed a glorious opportunity, must do better with his experience and the faith LVG has placed in him - am very annoyed at him for that miss.

In the end, probably a fair result. Not LVG's fault either; he picked a great team and made good substitutions. But as a team, we are still learning to plqy together and we look abit rudimentary at times. And we are definitely a world class game changer short in this squad, but we know that already.

Give PSV credit: Despite having an inferior team, they played with belief and passion. Great fans too.

Last point: This is gonna be a very tough job to get out of this group, despite have very favourable draw. Team is simply to inexperienced playing together.

Really poor finishing. I think Martial should've ran at them more instead of having his back to play for the majority of the game

Mate... Do you watch football? Do you understand it?
Better than you do, that much's obvious.

Outplaying a team doesn't consist of kicking the ball around a lot, having a lot of possession and running really fast. PSV had a strategy which completely had us falling apart at the seams. Every team all the way down to League 2 I bet know that all they have to do is put a lot of numbers into the box because we have nobody that can take a shot. Then all they have to do is break and score, which we also fall apart on. They had a strategy we currently have no answer to and they executed it perfectly, meanwhile we never started playing.

They won 2-1 against our billion pound squad. Yes, I'd say they played us off the pitch.

Some of our most dynamic attacking of the season. We'll top this group in my view. We got sucker punched, it happens. Only disappointment was lack of directness at the end. If you bring Fellaini on then get the ball in the box.

The Shaw injury is awful for him and us, so sad to see. Feck you Moreno

We had no players with impact ability to bring on and frankly that's down to the manager.

I think he should be commended for having the bollocks to make wholesale squad changes but based on that he's tried to do too much too soon and now we are short until January and more likely next summer.

Mostly is. His lack of transfer in the attacking department is what has led to this situation where we have to depend on Fellaini coming on for long balls when we need a goal.
Not sure if it was the case. Judging from his interviews, players that could improve us (Muller, Neymar, Bale) just not available.
Anyway, if he must buy world class player to make thing work, I'm not sure about this philosophy anymore. Has anyone ever ?

That game is all on the players, when you dominate a game like that and don't win, you'll be mental to blame LVG.
Footballers get injuries. Everyone knows that which is why most don't leave themselves with a fairly average target man to be our best source of chasing a goal. The Shaw isn't really relevant to that. We dominate games like that all the time. And Van Gaal signed most of those players.

How did we lose this game?

United were the better team over the 90 minutes, had plenty of chances but somehow managed to blow a 1:0 lead and lose.

A massively frustrating night, with David De Gea having almost nothing to do except pick the ball out of his net twice. United took a well deserved first-half lead through Memphis but PSV hit back from a corner and then in the second-half snuck into the lead with a well worked counter-attack.

United's play became increasingly desperate towards the end, with desperate long balls to Fellaini which were never effective. It should never have come to that.

Despite United's dominance in most matches this season, they're still a soft touch at the back. Two more bad goals to concede tonight and if they can't sort that out, there'll be more results like this.

With the shocking leg break for Luke Shaw, it's turned into a pretty horrible night.
I think that's a bit harsh. Lucky deflection for their first goal. Before that they didn't trouble us. They had a few more chances then when we puhed forward after they equalized.

I think this shows that Scheiderlin should be playing this type of match though. We got over ran at times in midfield, we could have done with him in there mopping up.

But only 5 on target...
Yeah, we were very wasteful. That will happen though when two of the attackers are so young.

We brought Fellaini on so we had 2 big forwards. How many crosses did we give them? 0? 1?

Useless. Those free kicks and short corners were pathetic. Just whip a good ball in. Go wide, beat your man, cross it. Simple.

I blame the players tonight

There's no way we should've lost that. We dominated from start to finish and were beaten by a team who assaulted and seriously injured one of our players, for which there was no card (should've been red), no penalty, in fact no repercussions at all. The same fecking clown goes on to score a deflected equalizer. You must be fecking kidding me. It's a script written by a retarded fecking, dickriding, scouser mongoloid in his parents basement while he wanks to his fantasy football porn. PSV flew into ridiculous tackles all night, and if you don't feel safe on the field, what does that do to your mentality?

There is a huge sense of injustice over this one, and I hope that when they come to Old Trafford we make a point of inflicting the most painful, brutal, humiliating defeat on these cnut faced knob jockeys and their provincial gaggle of fecktarded fans. The referee needs to be bent over and forcibly sodomized by a series of sexually aggressive and preposterously well endowed farm animals, all while choking on the contents of Luke Shaw's post-operative colostomy bag.

Other than that, I'm taking this well.

Wonder how those who hated control and wanted attacking football liked tonight?
What! We had 60% of the ball and controlled the match for the majority of the time. It is our soft defending which cost us the goals. Our attack was toothless, as usual, so I am not sure where you get the idea that our attacking led to us losing control of the match.
