"On another day" is a complete irrelevance and of no worth in any argument. All that's important is what happens on "this" day and what happened last night was yet another instance of an unacceptable performance.
It really wasn't. We were the better team, it's another instance more like of the naysayers wanting to jump on a bad result as reasons to why Louis can't do it. This was a fluke result, we controlled the game, and but for some better finishing by us, we'd have won. That allied with the fact they scored with basically their only 2 decent chances. People spectacularly over-reacting to this one. As usual, I'm not surprised.

Hard to disagree as what you say is fairly accurate, but we control most games but are lacking goals, and it is rarely for working the keeper and rattling the frame of the goal. The "missed chances" as a result of the control are usually good positions in last third where we make shit decisions or there are not enough players committed to the attack to finish it off, rather than one on ones or sitters from 6 yards out. It just feels watching us at the moment, it doesn't matter who we are playing, home or away, even if we score 1st, you don't know what is coming next, we are never comfortable. Even against the dippers, 3-1 looks a comfortable score and they were terrible, but De Gea had to make saves their keeper did not.

Blaming LvG would be inappropriate here - the squad were clearly deflated after the Shaw injury and PSV were tactically and emotionally ready for us. That happens, how we deal with it is what's important.
"PSV were tactically and emotionally ready for us"? Newsflash - that's what they're supposed to be, their coach wouldn't have been doing his job if they weren't. Similarly we're supposed to be ready for them, we'd have had them watched and analysed. PSV are no more than an average team.

My beef with Van Gaal is the whole possession football thing. He's had over a year now and has spent - what - £300m, and progress since his arrival has been little more than minimal with some of the football just downright dismal. Certainly not what you would expect of a manager of his experience and status within the game.

He's definitely had mix results with the transfers but I don't think that had anything to do with PSV beating us. They had the right tactics against us. It happens.

Yes, it happens. It also happened against Swansea, where Van Gaal saw them switch formation and did absolutely nothing to combat it - then post-match blamed the players for not adapting. Two games lost from a winning position. It's Van Gaal's job to make sure "it" doesn't happen. That's what he's paid for.

We didn't win because Carrick didn't start.

It is a curse.

Refer this seasons results to date and you will see.

Unlike Swansea, PSV didn't switch anything to bet the better of us. The game should have been over in the 1st half itself, VAN Gaal cannot finish the player's chances for them. Neither can he somehow prevent them from making errors which resulted in both of their goals.

Don't forget that we lost the league to City that season on goal difference - they had 8 more than us... If we'd not fecked that game up so spectacularly (which represented a +10 goal swing in their favour) then the whole league result could have been different... so yeah, bring back kamikaze football
That game was in October though, a long time before the end of the season. We had 5 draws and 5 defeats. Perhaps if we had turned on the attack a bit more we would have won by 2 points. We didn't lose the league on one game in 38. And even if we did, those extra three goals only made a 6-goal swing, we'd still have lost.

Being the better team means nothing if you don't get anything from the game. We have zero points. We were excellent up to the final third. When we did break through, we wasted the chances. This team still has a lot to learn but does show a lot of promise. The bench was a little weak with no "game changers" (quote BT Sport FFS) though. People have a right to be "doom n gloom" as we dominated without actually looking likely to win..........again.

With a settled forward line, we would have got something out of the game. As it was, we have new personnel in Martial who looked good in glimpses, combining with Young and Memphis.

It's coming, a little slower than most would like but it is looking better.

We lost against PSV and Swansea after coming close to putting the game out of sight for both but wasting those chances and then them equalizing against the run of play, that to me points to a mentally fragile team and more so after what they had witnessed first hand re-Shaw's injury. Most of us watched that on TV, imagine watching it live and it's your teammate, a friend to most in that team, against a side that was as fired as they were! These things can never be prepared for. There is a massive room for improvement, especially in attack, but on Tuesday we were playing our best football of the season creating chances only for he manager to panic and put in a player that contributed nothing to build up and is not in the best of form to be any threat in the box.
That match, to me, was encouraging because if we can consistently reach the levels we reached then we are in the right direction and our results will soon reflect that. There are issues to address certainly but one couldn't watch that match and come out yelling "Van Gaal out",besides we know that Van Gaal is not married to any system or player that isn't bringing in results so he will change things around like he did last season.

Should have been "a player that's not named Rooney". Apologies there but he did show that on Falcao, Robin and Di Maria -last season Wayne did earn his keep and this season he still in his "takes a few games to get into the swing of things" mode.

Precision.

Looking at that, can't we bring him on in the 85th minute or so if we can't get a goal..he can surely just keep pinging good balls in the box for Memphis and co. to attack. Still the best attacking player in the United dugout.

Probably still the best crosser in the team.

I'm a supporter of LVG, but wouldn't you like to see us drop back and sit deep and allow the other team to attack us after we go a goal up away in Europe? I just find the tactical approach we currently employ very naive.

No. Why would you want that? Wasn't that a huge complain under the previous regime?
