I'll be honest here, I had barely noticed him before our interest but he seems like the type who'd make the step up and really do well here like early Valencia or Saha.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to find out where Southampton get these players from and buy them first?

Would rather buy Mahrez. That dude is exceptionally talented. One to watch out for...for shizz!

Yeah if there is a shop then great! But there is not so when a gem becomes available we should buy him! The fact the price is dearer is fair game into. For every Mane there are 10 in other clubs who have bit the dust and not sparkled as much. So Southampton have to be given credit and rewarded financially.

Came on to post this

A front 3 of Memphis - Martial - Mane would be very strong and pacey

Troubled our defenders throughout and worked hard for the team too
If we do buy him, on current form, he'll probably take Memphis out of the team. Mata has been immense for us so far this season. I think this is getting overlooked because he isn't pacey, and doesn't run past the opposing right back. He will probably be the first person on LVG's team sheet for this season if he continues this form.

Sorry but Mata has not been immense

His stats are good but we are imbalanced with the lack of pace there

Rooney on bench and Mata at 10 with pace and movement in front would be ideal

I wouldn't describe Mata's performances so far as 'immense' but in fairness he's definitely contributed. I still feel we are waiting to strike the right balance as a team and he's one of those who LVG will still be thinking about in terms of his exact role within the system.

Thing with Mata is that he has a goal in him and other than Herrera there doesn't appear loads of goal threat aside of the strikers or maybe just striker given Rooneys dry spell.

Southampton keep on farming players for bigger teams to buy. Surely by now they should be trying to keep a core?

It's not as easy as that. Look at the fuss Schneiderlin kicked up when he was rejected a move last summer.

It's difficult to keep players who don't want to be there. They need to be getting in Europe consistently in order to keep a good core of high quality players imo, but this is difficult when you keep closing your best players every year. Vicious circle.

Never seen him MZX7!
He's the league's top performer this season. Also the one with the highest FPL points. Plays for Leicester. Does great for club and country (Algeria).

He's killing Chelsea right now and he was denied a stonewall penalty. Minutes after that he was given a yellow for simulation when he was clearly fouled. Chelsea are getting help from the ref. Southampton are all over them

He's been very good every time I have watched Southampton this season. Wouldn't mind if we decided to go for him.

Kind of feels like he has upped his level since he was linked with United, and so many said he wasn't worthy. He's going to be pricey to get if he keeps on performing at this level.

No one expected Douglas Costa to perform as good as he does at the moment so Mane should be given a chance. He is doing much better than Rooney overall this season.

I do think if we could get Mane at the right price he would be an excellent addition. Obviously in today's market we would be looking at £25m+ but he is young, tricky and most importantly absolutely lightning quick. I would say at the moment he is better than any of the wingers we have and given we probably need 7+ players to cover that front 4 in 4 competitions (and with Rooney looking finished) we could do a lot worse

Will not complain if United renew their interest in Mane next season

HELLO
It looks like he's turning into a top player but i think we should be aiming higher than him. We can do better in terms of a starting place and he's too expensive to be a squad player. There's gonna be lots of top players coming through and we're in a great position to capitalise on that due to Barca, Madrid and City's stacked attacks.

But it is funny how people were taking the piss about United going from Pedro to Mane, doesn't look too outrageous now.

Yeah, this doesn't look like a freak run of form akin to somebody like Jamie Vardy. This is a young player really starting to elevate his level. He's well worth a good look over the next twelve months. As somebody says above, though, his price will only go up and up.

The issue is that Southampton would ask for more than they wanted for any of Shaw, Morgan and Lallana. Big bucks.
