United consider January move for Ayoze Perez

No way jose! No where near good enough. I hope its not true.

At least this means we know that we need another striker.

Versatile? Tick.
Good technique? Tick.
Pretty quick? Tick.
Good finisher? Tick.
Not cup tied for CL or EL? Tick.
Can be adopted by Ander, Dave and Juan? Tick.

He's not quick at all. He's very weak too. I really do like him but he's just not very fast or strong, I fail to see why we want him.

If it's actually true (and not the usual 'exclusive' shit papers put) then I trust the manager. Frankly I don't think he is that great but I have been pleasantly surprised at our success in transfers (Martial, Rojo, Blind, Darmian), at least players who wanted to be here (before people put valdes and Di Maria). And happy in a way that players we chose not to buy are struggling elsewhere.

Manchester United are interested in signing Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez and could bid for the Spaniard in January.

Perez is also being watched by the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, but United are thought to be keenest on the 22-year-old

sounds like his agent wrote the article...

would love to see him here and think he would be a great addition to our squad.

I mean he's not bad, you can clearly see he has talent yet he hasn't really stood out. Newcastle are in transition atm so it's hard to judge him.

He's a decent player and young enough to develop further, but he wont bring the rapid pace and creativity out wide that LvG wants and I don't see him playing as a #9 when we rest Martial, so I honestly can't figure out what we'd want with him.

Pérez hasn't been super impressive to be honest, though playing at Newcastle does him no favors. But if Van Gaal believes he is, or can be good enough to play for United, then that should suffice. He has a good eye for talent, he makes errors from time to time not doubt, but more often than not his assessment is spot on. Not a lot of us were convinced that Martial was the right option for the summer, but he has worked out very well. Van Gaal tried to sign Mané in the summer, and he has taken a step up. Sometimes, it's not about what the player is doing now, but what he could do in the future, under Louis' guidance; and you have to pounce at the right time. If he thinks Pérez is good enough, can develop physically a bit, and has the intelligence to play in his system, then he could be a good option. With Martial looking like our primary #9 for the long term, we do need options off the bench to have an impact over games. Which is what Pérez's role could be. And he's versatile enough to play out wide too.

You're not going to find Lewandowski willing to come in and play third choice to Rooney and Martial. He's a decent player, good trickery, change of pace and very versatile. Possibly available for cheaper than guys like Berahino. We could do worse for a back up.

Would be a solid acquisition imo. Not world class or even approaching it, but considering how light we are up top, I wouldn't be agaisnt signing him at all. Then a summer bid for Griezmann or someone of the ilk. Far too much pressure on Martial to deliver in every game -- we need another attacker to relieve that pressure.

Yes please. As a back up option he'd be excellent. Modern day Solskjaer I can see. He is a lot better than people in this thread are giving him credit for I think.

We don't need a back up option sitting on the bench waiting to make an impact.

We need a proven goalscorer like Reus or a player promoted from the youth with that potential. Perez would do ok at Southampton

Mane would be a good option too -- Alan Smith type options, even for the sake of rotation. Every squad needs these type of players who won't feature in the long-term but can add valuable options when needed.

Word 'consider' is a key as we're also monitoring Mane and few others. LvG is probably scouting the market before the final decision and he got couple of months before January. Plenty of time to find ideal addition.

He is a talent, can't deny that but he's just an option among many.

He looked very good any time I've seen him. I mean I wasn't thinking of him as a signing for us or anything but he certainly seemed too good for Newcastle. Even when he wasn't playing that well he still looked like he definitely had something about him.

Might be a diamond in the rough or might turn out to be a bit shite. Not sure I'd want him here but I see why we'd be keeping an eye on him at least.

He's good. Probably needs to be doing better at Newcastle before he can be considered at a top four club though.

Mahrez, Vardy and now this guy looks like we're aiming for those Europa league spots this year.
Mahrez and Vardy are unrealistic though. World class players at a title rival.

I think it's fair to compare Ayoze Perez to Smith - who was only really of the required standard in a team fighting for the CL places and cups, not the title - but Mané's a step above. Going for Perez is just setting our sights too low, for me.

I like him.. would be an interesting signing and a decent punt with not much to lose.

Clearly we are looking for another forward, who can play wide. I don't think he's the answer, has looked good on occasions but hasn't really forced the issue with consistent amazing displays.

As others have said, probably a 2+2 article and/or agent putting him in the shop window.
