I'm usually LVG's biggest critic, but this wasn't a tactical error at all. We created so many chances, this game should have been put to bed, the players lacked the quality to put us through.

Despite how upsetting us not going through is, what a fecking game this was, the most excited i've been watching a United game in a long time. Had me on my seat.
Taking off Mata and bringing on Nick bloody Powell was amateur. Mata was looking like he would create chances. He can't be blamed for the injuries, but the fact we are in this position is his fault. Not scoring at home against PSV is embarrassing.

Long headed clueless Scouse loving windbag Souness is in his element.
Best and most honest pundit on the telly imo. Love Nev but his failure to give criticism to English players was annoying. Linker is a Rolf Harris love child and Scholes a bit dour.

The PSV result killed us, everybody knew coming to Wolfsburg looking for a result would be difficult. They're a good team. But I still expected United to win - the chances were there all game, LVG isn't on the pitch to put it in the net.

It has to be said that a culmination of injuries and lack of attacking force as well as luck are the key reasons we lost tonight. But yeah, it's the other results that have killed us, not this match.

Brave attempt by a very young side, their keeper and defence put in a heroic performance. Well done to all our young players tonight. Van Gaal can't even be arsed getting up to contest any decisions. He's too obsessed with marking every movement, pass, chance in his notebook to actually care what is going on in front of him. Fate was not on our side tonight. Smalling injured, going behind twice immediately after scoring, PSV scoring when they did. Hope the coaching team can pick the boys up in the locker room and give them a pat on the back. Lets smash the Europa League!!!

Curious what @Balu has to say but Dante strikes me as a mediocre footballer
He started his decline in the 2nd half of the treble winning season and got worse ever since. He was excellent at Gladbach and for a season for us as well. Mediocre is probably a fair description for him so far this season.

A friking 33 year old Naldo who did not score a SINGLE goal thus far in the season scores two deadly ones today. Yes, so predictable.
That was the (55th and) 56th goal since he moved to Germany, he is quite the goal threat for a CB.

Absolutely pathetic. Van Gaal is out of excuses. Yes we had injuries, but his selection (Fellaini over Carrick,) and substitutions were moronic. What's more, he'll probably use tonight as a reason to revert back to that possession-based garbage he has been feeding us. feck him and his twitching ass.
Fellaini was actually good today though. Rate Carrick but he's not been up to his usual standard.

Was exciting - can't be any complaints about that. Everything in there today except the result. Proud of the kids. Let them loose in the Europa. No let's see about the injuries for the league game. Not as disappointed as I thought I'd be. Just worried about the injuries. Ah well, will have to put Young and Carrick back there and the youths:D
    Feel much the same way.

could deal with going out, just.

but how f'cking cruel was that. The early goal, getting hopes up, the unexpected, then late disallowed goal on half time.

CSKA going 1-0 up, meaning a loss would have taken us through

CKSA holding that for about 29 seconds...needed to score again
    Scoring so late...pure hype

then concede straight away, PSV score straight away

and that horrible last 5/6 mins where it's completely over, and you're watching some completely not ready players/never will be ready players run around...

    horrible.

roll on FC Maribor or some gas in the Europa. and pretending it matters as if we're Tottenham fans

Van Gaal reminds me of Capello when managing England.

Both great managers defeated by the paucity of talent available to them and suffering therefore unfair abuse.

About time you blame the guys driving the bus not the guy directing the traffic.

Bemused is the word I would use to describe my state of mind. Weird situation
I'm not even bemused because I think that I've see the light. I was like most posters under LVG spell but when you look at it closely, when we can't keep the ball, we are shit. United doesn't have a team and doesn't have a coach. Every good things come from individual inspirations from Smalling, De Gea, Mata, Martial or Memphis.

    Lemmy has forsaken us....
It was good to see the kids given a chance, and most of them played well. Powell has a good excuse.

Schweini and injuries were the real disappointment here.

    Still, sucks that we're out.

I'm not going to jump around and say "LVG out". But what I will say is that if we don't improve and get away from the tumescent shite we've seen for 18 months before the end of this season then he needs to go before it's too late to recover from the mess. Let's not forget that we had to deal with Moyes the year before, so that would mean we could potentially have had 3 years where we haven't "bounced back", and that's a long fecking time in modern football as far as attracting world class players and sponsors are concerned.

3 years. FFS I had hair three fecking years ago.
I had no hair 3 years ago :) but I do now, and no I am not Wayne Rooney :)

Van Gaal needs a disciplinary meeting for gross misconduct for making that sub.
    schweiny for carrick...could deal with

then you see...hang on, what the heck...Mata coming off for...a guy from Crewe whose name we have to remind ourselves of.

Yea, this game was lost in the lead-up, this performance in particular was nothing to complain about though, they gave it all. Taking off Mata was controversial but his performance was seeming to wane as the game went on, a fresh pair of legs could have worked out, running at an ageing and tired defence. It made sense, but didn't work out.

PSV cost us. Tonight was better but their goals were way too easy. Hope this doesn't make us react by going back to 3 at the back. And have to hope Smalling's alright or we're fecked.

I'm also not really jumping onto LVG out but ohh boy he's getting there. Losing to the cherries might do it tbh.

To be honest tonight I am not disappointed in, we were actually very unlucky and it was one of those nights.

Problem is that we got ourselves into this situation, if we played like this against PSV at OT we would have won there and guaranteed qualification. Just because we played more attacking tonight doesn't excuse the rest of the campaign. It's been shambolic from first match to last and the buck stops with LVG.
