Rodgers, Moyes or Giggs. They could all do with winning some tangible silverware as managers even though some will remain cynical about success at Celtic and what it proves.Looks like Celtic job will be up for grabs again this season. Who yous reckon?
It wouldn't be unfair cynicism either.Rodgers, Moyes or Giggs. They could all do with winning some tangible silverware as managers even though some will remain cynical about success at Celtic and what it proves.
CL quarter-final in 13/14?Moyes would be a depressing hire, surely they need someone with some CL experience
If Giggs goes to Celtic it will be pretty dissapointing if he still thinks he deserves the United job. No one is going to take SPL titles seriously...look at Neil Lennon who won it 3 times in a rowRodgers, Moyes or Giggs. Aye, to be fair, barring that Olympiakos game, Moyes probably was at his best for us in the CL.CL quarter-final in 13/14?
I wasn't looking at it from that perspective. If Giggs goes to Celtic it will be pretty dissapointing if he still thinks he deserves the United job. No one is going to take SPL titles seriously...look at Neil Lennon who won it 3 times in a row
Yeah, no one took Fergie seriously. If Giggs goes to Celtic it will be pretty dissapointing if he still thinks he deserves the United job. No one is going to take SPL titles seriously...look at Neil Lennon who won it 3 times in a row
The SPL then and now are incomparable.Yeah, no one took Fergie seriously.
That's an awful point to make. I think you are really downplaying Ferguson's achievement in winning the title 3 times for Aberdeen. That was their 2nd, 3rd and 4th title in their history and it's still the last time a non old firm team won the SPL. Also the Scottish league is completely different now.Yeah, no one took Fergie seriously.
The financial difference between Celtic and the current teams in the SPL is huge. Celtic can buy players for 2 million, Aberdeen spent £300,000 last year for Kenny McLean which was the most for a player for many a year. So any fecker should be able to win it.Amazing that Celtic can win their league title with ease but still sack their manager. Almost an admittance from the club that their league is piss easy and any fecker could win it
The whole argument that the SPL is now completely different is tosh. Ive been watching it since 1970, Aberdeen is my home team. The SPL has always been a 2 horse race between Rangers and Celtic with very very occaisional bursts from other clubs. Go through the list of winners over the last 100 years and you will see that. Its always been a league where only one of two teams are capable of winning and at present Celtic have it all to themselves with Aberdeen being the only other side capable of mounting a challenge. In a couple of seasons its going to be be back to the old firm again. Its the same as its always been. The current run of either Celtic or Rangers winning it is in its second longest burst. That's an awful point to make. Winning titles with Celtic right now is not much of an achievement at all and I find it ridiculous to compare it with Ferguson at Aberdeen
The difference is that Scottish football is a joke now. Back in the days Scotland qualified for every World Cup, had great players and teams who won in Europe or atleast made it to the final. Celtic can't even make it out of the EL group stage now, and the other Scottish clubs are knocked out of Europe by August, just like the national team hasn't qualified for anything since 1998.The whole argument that the SPL is now completely different is tosh. The point wasnt to downplay Fergie at all.
It would be a good move for Giggs. It would mean he would have a chance to be successful in his first job as a manager which is important because 99% of all managers with respect to winning trophies are essentially failures because so very very few managers win anything in their entire careers. Also if Giggs failed at Celtic it would be a very clear sign he could never hope to be the United manager.
Perfect job for his first try at being a manager.
The turn of events really is unbelievable. The difference is that Scottish football is a joke now. We've done a poor job of developing our own. But it's the lack of TV revenue that is the killer for us and every other small league whose big boys used to mix it at the business end of continental competition. The difference is that Scottish football is a joke now. Celtic and Rangers have always been historically dominant, but the general standard of the league was a lot higher. Celtic and Rangers could compete in Europe (Stein's Celtic being the prime example), but what that meant was that when one of/both the Old Firm had brief declines, or a poor season, other sides who were playing well could potentially captalise on it themselves. Fergie's Aberdeen would be the prime example of that; a side who had an excellent manager, assembled a strong team, and were a lot better in Europe than any current Scottish side could hope to dream of.The whole argument that the SPL is now completely different is tosh. We used to have our best players filling teams in the top English division, as tv revenue increased so did the influx of foreign talent to England and we slowly got pushed aside. There was a time when all teams in the top flight had Scottish players in their first team and also often they were key players.Any manager of Rangers or Celtic isn't going to be judged on what they do in Scotland but on how they fare in Europe. Ferguson achieved in both areas and, along with Jim McLean, transformed the shape of Scottish football in the 1980s.
We've done a poor job of developing our own. But it's the lack of TV revenue that is the killer for us and every other small league whose big boys used to mix it at the business end of continental competition.
Rangers won the Cup Winners Cup in the early 70's and were runners up twice in the 60's. The number of top class players who came from Scotland to English teams was phenominal. Now a PL would hardly look twice at their players.Celtic and Rangers have always been historically dominant, but the general standard of the league was a lot higher. It's also probably the most dominant period we've seen for the big two, barring Rangers' collapse. It's now about 30 years since anyone else won it, and since the 90's no one else has really come close; Hearts in 06 for a brief period and Aberdeen this season have probably been the most threatening another side has looked.
Guy is a fraud. They should keep Ronny Deila. His a really talented manager imo.
You cannot be seriousThey should keep Ronny Deila. His a really talented manager imo.
Celtic have regressed under him, they have some decent and some good players, but he really seems to have no clue how to set a team up, motivate or any tactical nous. In terms of the squad, when the team plays, the whole is far less than the sum of the parts. Leigh Griffiths (37 this season) is the only goalscorer Celtic - a team famed for its strikers and attacking football - actually have just now. Mark Warburton showed today how to set up a team and get the best out of his players, Deila has not a clue, he is incapable of making subs or tactical changes during a game when things are going wrong. The Rangers team today consisted of youngsters and free transfers, even had Griffith's free kick at the death gone in or had Celtic won the shoot-out, Rangers would have deserved all the plaudits for their performance. Celtic were shameful, they just didn't turn up, and that has happened in practically every big game they have played this season. They have done their utmost to throw away the League title this season, but Aberdeen have failed to take up the challenge miserably. Dundee United are bottom of the League just now, if their manager was in charge at Celtic just now then it wouldn't make much difference. They should keep Ronny Deila. His a really talented manager imo.
Leigh Griffiths.Who is the current best Scottish player in the SPL?
I rate him. Works his socks off and is a pretty talented player tbh. He could probably go to a better club in the future.Leigh Griffiths.
I agree. However I see it as a decent stepping stone to a good EPL club (within the lines of Everton or Southampton)If Giggs goes to Celtic it will be pretty dissapointing if he still thinks he deserves the United job. No one is going to take SPL titles seriously...look at Neil Lennon who won it 3 times in a row
Are you Ronny Delia? That's the only logical explanation. That guy will be great if given more time. His young and learning. Celtic are spoiled kids. Oh no we just won the league. Oh well, football there is Mickey Mouse.
Moyes has proven himself as a Champions League manager and in his mind he's one of the top 2 managers in the world so not sure he will fancy Celtic.. Then again they will be in CL.Moyes in? Brendan in? Are they too 'big' for Celtic?
Nope, but I do like the guy. His still young in the game. Are you Ronny Delia? That's the only logical explanation.
Moyes played for Celtic in the 80s, albeit a squad player (he supported Rangers as a youngster) and Rodgers is a self-confessed Celtic fan so they both have some feeling for the club. Maybe now with Rangers back in the top league they might be tempted, but I doubt it. As for Celtic in the CL next season, well they were knocked out by Malmo of Sweden this season in the final qualifying round, mainly thanks to goals from a player deemed not good enough by a poor Celtic team, they will struggle to qualify again next season. That is, if their bottle doesn't crash completely after losing to Rangers in the Cup, and they allow Aberdeen in to win the Title.Moyes has proven himself as a Champions League manager and in his mind he's one of the top 2 managers in the world so not sure he will fancy Celtic.. That'd be fantastic, it'd set next season up wonderfully.Moyes played for Celtic in the 80s, albeit a squad player (he supported Rangers as a youngster) and Rodgers is a self-confessed Celtic fan so they both have some feeling for the club. Not sure. He struggles in European games and was a failure in league 1 with Wolves.I rate him. Works his socks off and is a pretty talented player tbh. He could probably go to a better club in the future.
He's good in the SPL but it's questionable whether he has enough about his game to cut it against stronger opposition. His finishing is excellent, but he's not great back to goal and lacks a bit of physicality for most one-man forward lines. Hence why he's rarely featured for Scotland. Not sure. He struggles in European games and was a failure in league 1 with Wolves.
His not been at Wolves? Not sure. He struggles in European games and was a failure in league 1 with Wolves.
