Europa League 2015/2016

Liverpool wouldn´t even be the 7th best team in spain.....
Villarreal are not a football powerhouse, but they are fairly consistent and overall solid. Liverpool is neither of those two things. Those are the reasons why Villarreal is the stronger team and favorite to advance to the final.

You're a tad over-rating Villareal. They are in a good position in Spain but they are still the 4th best team in a 3 team league. They had no real pace, nor even strength to bother our makeshift backline. Apart from two harmless nutmegs Denis Suarez was ordinary. Markovic ordinary. And they have Soldado as their senior experienced player. We gave them too much respect and paid for it. I would have taken a 2-1 loss as long as we gave it a go.

We still have a decent shot at winning the tie but it isn't because Klopp produced a good first leg.

Suarez had a shocking final ball but was nonetheless a threat throughout. Soldado and Markovic are average it's true, but you haven't mentioned their main threat, Makambu, who is very handy. When you consider their excellent defence and defensive midfielder, I really don't see how you can think your team is better. Let's face it, if they're 4th best in a 3 team league, then you're 6th best in a zero team league.

For me the sides are very well matched but if their players are fully fit their team is slightly better.

Bakambu :nono:

In all seriousness, I agree. The defense and especially Bruno make the team so strong, very calm under pressure and able to play nice football if they want.

 I knew I'd get it wrong. Always write (sp?) as a copout kids.

Bakambu was ok, nothing special. A lightweight Lukaku. Bailly, why have I mentioned his name countless times for it to wash over most of your heads?

Markovic?

What's Bailly got to do with you thinking you're better than them? Their whole defence was fantastic. Clyne and Touré were decent enough for the most part for you, but Lovren and especially Moreno were leagues away from their opposite nos.

And I didn't say Bakambu was anything special but he's clearly a good forward - something you lacked yesterday.

Judging Villareal from one match? They are a damn fine team. Play with such intensity and order at the back. Basically a mini-Atlético since they came back to the first division.

They do play well and with decent intensity from the back. Liverpool's intensity against them was better though, even in that 'one' game. I'm not saying Villareal won't win the tie, they may very well do. They are nowhere near Atletico's quality of players though. They barely even touch Dortmund.

Statistically we'd be the 6th best team in the league on 55 points with Athletico Bilbao, so your wrong there.. Villareal are 20 points away from Real Madrid in 3rd. Their last 10 games 3 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses I wouldn't call that consistent.

I just saw the winning Villareal goal. One of the best team goals I've seen this season. Wonderful stuff.

 Never use statistics again.

When you put it like that

Villarreal have beaten Real Madrid, Atleti, Sevilla, Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen at home. Held Barca. Only conceded once in EL at home. Over 20 clean sheets this season in total. At home they are a very good side .. and to be honest we made them look ordinary. Hopefully we can do the business at Anfield but I'm under no illusions how tough that will be now after conceding that goal in the last few seconds. Utterly brainless defending to go all gung-ho when the match was done.

No your right it's not, but for someone to say "Liverpool wouldn't even be the 7th best team in Spain?" Where's the evidence to support that then? Same person could say Villareal could be the 4th best team in England, but then that's not how it works either.

So when someone gives you his opinion, you respond by providing irrelevant stats to disprove him?

the comment was slightly tongue-in-cheek.
Dumbster said, that Spain is a "three team league" and essentially implied that the 4th team isn´t that good after-all. Following that logic england is a zero team league and everybody just sucks.
After my comment he even clarified, that he thinks that Liverpool would be the 4th best team in the league, which I disagree with. Both Villarreal and Sevilla are stronger than Liverpool this season. Bilbao is on-par and Celta is playing a fantastic season.
If Liverpool would play in la liga, you´d probably be 8th/9th this season.

Not sure how we'll do. Villarreal area completely different side to play against compared to Dortmund and the 1-0 lead they have means they can play their counter attacking game.

My head says we're going out, but I hope we at least show more fight than City did last night. Could be an all Spanish affair in both European finals.

I don't think there's any doubt we'll show more fight, but I do have Villarreal as favourites to qualify for obvious reasons.

Think Liverpool will go out simply because they don't have an away goal.

Liverpool have played nine European semi-final second legs at Anfield and they have won eight of them. The only time they failed to win was in the 1976 UEFA Cup but a 1-1 draw with Barcelona was still good enough to take the Reds through to the final.

Out in force.
