All my money for Marco.

With Schneiderlin, Herrera and Verratti we can have the most dominant midfield in the league.

A midfield 3 of Pogba, Veratti and Fosu-Mensah would be my ideal. More chance of me waking up next to Miss Universe than that happening though :(

What's 'insulting' is claiming that a footballer, because of his size, is better than another. My comparison is based on the claim you've made, where Pogba's superior physical attributes make him the better footballer... Absurd claim. I do understand the qualities of a physical specimen (take Yaya, for example), but I absolutely do not see any negative to technically gifted, controlling midfielders who are 5-foot-something. There is no correlation between physical size and ability.

Pogba fades, I don't find he's consistent enough yet. Verratti controls games. I would say most on the caf at the moment would rate Verratti higher.
I never said Pogba is better because of his size. I said Pogba has higher potential because he is a much superior athlete, along with a great skillset of his own. Why are we pretending that Pogba isn't technically gifted?

No one has denied that Pogba is technically gifted. Yes, he is a superior 'athlete' to Verratti, but Verratti has superior qualities of his own too. Why are you so hung up on the physical side? They are both athletes. Verratti is very good defensively, underrated in fact, and is also a very good dribbler. I just don't see why you use physicality against Verratti. Yaya, also a physical specimen, couldn't get into the freakish Barca midfield and was eventually pushed back to CB. His competition? The diminutive Xavi, Iniesta etc etc.

Why even quote his size then? Also, what do you mean by superior athlete?

Veratti would be a fantastic signing but the chance Leicester to win the CL is higher than PSG selling him to us.

Players hold nearly all the power these days. If Veratti wants to leave, then a deal could be done. He is a top five CM in the world. Couple that with his age, and he's an absolute dream signing.

The money is obviously fantastic, but he can make fantastic money elsewhere. A player of his calibre should not be wasting his career in Ligue 1.

Indeed he should be wasting it with us in the EL

One season in the EL with one of the biggest clubs in the world, is hardly comparable to spending your career in a meaningless league. The guy plays about 8-10 meaningful games a year. All in the CL. It's an absolute waste of his talent. He should be in England or Spain. No doubt about it. I hope he moves. I'd love to see him playing on the biggest stages week in, week out.

Magical Manchester United.

Sport: Barca have joined the race for Gabriel Jesus, but it's difficult – Juventus have already made a €20m offer, Bayern are lurking, and Barca don't have the best relationship with Gabriel's agent.

Beginning to look like agent or club trying to start a bidding war.

People are intent on comparing Verratti with Pogba and it's doomed to fail from the start.

Verratti is a tiers above Pogba as a controlling midfielder from deep, but conversely, Pogba is equally tiers above Verratti in the offensive third. They are a complementary pairing, not two players fighting over the same role in a team. If a team bought one to do the job of the other, they would be idiots.

Spot on. It's like comparing Martial to Ibra.

Definitely.

That being said, would LOVE Verratti but will never happen as PSG hold all the cards

Shame so many big clubs seem interested, he's going to be a star.

How am I hung up on the physical side? I know Verratti's strengths quite well and I am a fan of his game. I am merely pointing out that Pogba's physical frame combined with his skillset gives him a higher ceiling or potential.

Because his physical profile is an indicator of his aerial ability and overall strength, which surely makes a difference. What do I mean by superior athlete? He is quicker, stronger, and much better aerially.

Magical Manchester United.

Official Sevilla FC account: Sampaoli has arrived in Seville to discuss becoming manager of the club. I love how the official Sevilla twitter account is coming out with news like that (similar happened before Emery left yesterday) despite nothing being agreed yet  Very unusual IMO.

This is a sensible post and I agree with it. I wasn't trying to compare their actual playstyles but more so their overall impact on a game. I like both a lot and would love to have either of them here. Having both together would be incredible but I think thats only possible at PSG if they sign Pogba.

Anyway, I don't want this thread to be derailed by this discussion so its the last I will say on this. Your post sums it up well anyway.

You keep saying this in every thread, but what exactly are those things that Pogba does much better than Verratti? You know, things that are important for a midfielder...

Unusual, unless they seem certain of the outcome and with Monchi in tow - that's a great sign. I'm very excited about Sampaoli because I like him more than Emery and happy to see him at a good club with great management. I expect them to become a bigger force than they already are

Where the grass is greener.
Castles is the most ITK journo out there when it comes to Utd now, people might hate that fact, I certainly do, but I think when we look back at what he's saying this summer, it'll be the most accurate out of all the British press.

That's the only way we step up to Real-Barca-Bayern tier. Sign Pogba and Verrati.

He is probably talking about scoring and assisting etc?

Lampard and Makelele were important midfielders at Chelsea, but each played a very different role in the team....

I think you are skipping a few steps

First put together a good team, then actually start playing some decent football again, then start winning games and get into the CL again, then stay in the CL until after the winter and get as far as possible, then repeat all this for the coming seasons.

We do that for a couple of years in a row and win some trophies, get into a CL final again and we can start to think about realistically competing for players like Pogba and Verratti.

Then if we get those players and we can actually hold on to them for more than 1 season and we build on that we can start to look up at teams like Barca, Real, Bayern etc
