Mkhitaryan is too good a player for us to get a free run at. I wouldn't be surprised if another big side comes in trying to hijack the deal.

We are his dream club. According to his agent anyway.

Under those circumstances I'd expect that he'll end up here.

Feels like it's 5m too much for someone on the last year of his contract, but he's quality and I wouldn't be unhappy with this signing at all. About time we go for proven quality, and not settle with third or fourth choice when it comes to midfielders.

To be fair from the leaked documents they were close with the Depay fee. The leaked amount was £27m with additional bonus payments I think and they said £31m
No it was 27.5m euros with an additional 4.5m in bonuses wasn't it?

Does anyone know what happen to Mkhitaryan 2 seasons ago?

His stats in the bundesliga:
Goals: 3
Assists: 4

The same season De Bruyne had 10 goals and 20 assists.

You do remember Dortmund were bottom of the table by 3 points in December that season and Klopp decided to leave? You can't blame that on Mkhitaryan

Whole Dortmund went to utter shite and were stuck in relegation-esque form for some time.

Please, you want to tell me that "buying another player for one year we have to wait for Micki" is a great idea of managing the United squad?
I don't see what the problem is? Mkhitaryan can fill in two positions but it's not like there is a shortage of AM's RW's for 40 odd millions isn't it?

He shouldn't get a free pass because the side was underachieving. He was equally crap that season as well.

What RWs would you go for then at £30m?

Yeah I think I can excuse that season considering how the entire team was awful.

Price is always speculation but we've already been linked to quite a number: Mahrez, Ounas, Williams, Filipe Anderson, Moura, Silva, Joao Mario, Willian etc..

For £30m you can rule out Mahrez, Willian and Moura

Ounas, Williams, F Anderson (wtf?), Silva and Mario over Mkhitaryan...ehm no

Also Mourinho has said he isn't signing anyone from the Portuguese league so J Mario is also ruled out

But surely it's better to overspend a little and get a player of higher priority for the manager rather than buy a second or fourth choice.

Why are people talking as if Mkhitaryan is a bog standard player? :houllier:

He's one of the best attacking players in one of the most attacking teams in Europe. He has the ability to make something out of nothing, and he provides very good defensive contributions too.

Most of us, spare a few precocious contrarians know that.

According to the poll. 118 people currently require a lobotomy. Mick is pure class, and will show it next season. Nearing his peak, and will thrive in the PL. No brainer for the money that is quoted.

If this was 38m euro for one of the best performing players currently in Europe with 2 years left on his contract, it would be seem as an absolute bargain. Because it's 1 year, now some people are banging on about overpaying and him being free in a year's time. There's like no middle ground in this.

It just sounds too easy to me.

Admittedly there aren't many top sides in need of an attacking midfielder/wide forward but he's good enough that you buy him then worry later about where he fits in.

He's at least 2 levels above our current RW options, we're lucky he (apparently) likes United so much, it may have deterred other clubs from making a bid for him.

Yeah pretty much a no brainer, much like the Ibra deal. Mourinho is off to a flying start.

I think in terms of signing a right mid you'd be looking hard to find someone with the 'garuntee' that Miki would bring. But, for 38 million Euros for someone on the last year of his deal are we not getting fleeced? If they won't go any lower then I'd certainly pay it but it seems like we always spend a hell of a lot of money on players.
But then City payed 50 million pounds so 38 million Euros is a bargain in comparison.

I never said that I blame him. I just wanted to know if he was injured, in bad form or playing out of position.

I remember they finished 7th, still Aubameyang scored 16 goals and he had 6 assists.

To be honest I would prefer another kind of right winger (someone more skillful and with tons of pace). However, Mkhitaryan improves what we already have and it seems he wants to join us, so he's totally welcome.

I'd prefer Mahrez but still won't be unhappy with this signing. Hopefully he doesn't become another Kagawa.

Heard he had mental problems from time to time at Dortmund. (not mental illness, but mental block or whatever)

You'd find 50 United supporters on here who wouldn't want Messi at the club

The important bit is getting a player that potentially will solve our problem. If we are convinced about that, then I'd much rather get fleeced a bit than settle for some of the other options thrown around. and even then none of the mentioned other players are going to be cheap, plus not attainable in many cases. It's actually quite great that the deal is getting close and I just hope he performs as we expect him to be.

I remember that I read about it, here is the article:

Jurgen Klopp played Mkhitaryan out of position - agent Mino Raiola

Henrikh Mkhitaryan celebrates after scoring against Borussia Moenchengladbach in August.
Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been hailed as one of the best midfielders in Europe by his agent Mino Raiola.

Mkhitaryan, 26, joined Dortmund from Shakthar Donetsk in a club-record €27.5 million deal in the summer of 2013.

Last season, the Armenia international failed to find top form for most of the campaign, scoring only four goals and assisting seven in 41 games over all competitions.

But he has been transformed under new Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel this season, already being involved in 23 goals across 18 games in all competitions. He has scored 11, and set up a dozen from Dortmund's impressive total of 64 goals in 20 games.

Former boss Jurgen Klopp had said that the player's performances often seemed to suggest the pressure might be much or a player who waslinked with a switch to Juventus in January, but Raiola disagrees.

"Micki never had a mental problem," he told Bild. "Micki just plays in his position now. That's it.

"He's one of the best players in Europe in it. You just have to play players where they are best. When you play [Lionel] Messi at right-back, he also wouldn't be that good."

Klopp, left Dortmund at the end of last season and has since taken charge of Liverpool, played Mkhitaryan on the right wing in several games last season, while Tuchel has used him in a more central role or on the left wing.

38 million is too much I feel. Would give 37.99 for him, not a cent more. We shouldn't get fooled around.

Does he speak any english? I know Martial settled very quickly without knowing the language but I'm sure it is difficult. He knows Januzaj though, which will obviously help him settle a bit.

He is a polyglot. Fluent in 6 languages including English.
Yes quite intelligent by all accounts. Also in an interview he said if he wasn't a footballer he would have been a sprinter. Is he that fast or was he joking?

After some initial reservations im all on board with this signing.

My initial thoughts were that Mhiki is a slower more sat Right Attacking Midfielder. I wanted someone with oace to burn and essentially a mirror player of Martial but I see now that Mhiki is a fantastic option. He may not be as fast as Martial or Rashford but he is literallyvplaying in his peak and he scores plenty of goals and has loads of assists whats more is Jose will love his work ethic and defensive attributes.

Over all though I am pleased we went after an availble player that can come in and hit the ground running. Its been a tragic position for a while now and wed be getting one of the world most under rated players.

Ideally wed nab him and also get a younger speedier option too....Draxler.
