Two rules:
- no player from United or Arsenal
- a player who played at Utd/Ars but also played elsewhere (say Sheringham or Mata) is eligible if they arguably spent their best years elsewhere (no Rio for example)

This is actually pretty tough, usually an all Prem XI is just Man Utd with 2 or 3 extras in it.

Cech, Zabaleta, Terry, Kompany, Cole, Makelele, Gerrard, Lampard, Suarez, Shearer, Aguero

Probably stick a prime Toure in midfield for balance and and Cole at LB, something like:

Cech
Carvalho Kompany Terry Cole
Toure
Lampard Gerrard
Zola..............Bale
Shearer

it was tempting to go with McManaman, Fowler & Owen up front but I resisted, :)

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
----------------------Cech
Carr--------McGrath--------Terry------Cole
--------------------Makelele
----David Silva-----Gerrard-----------Bale
------------Shearer-----------Suarez

Its quite a hard task actually, as there's tonnes of competition for places in the middle of the pitch and feck all comparatively in the wide areas. Carr sticks out like a sore thumb, but I liked him and you'd want a strong overlapper on that side or else there's bugger all width.

Cech
Zabaleta - Desailly - Carvalho - Cole
Silva - Essien - Makelele - Bale
Shearer - Fowler

Hard to leave Lampard out but Makelele is a must and Essien was so, so good for a short time.

Cashley should not be allowed imo. He made his name at Arsenal being a part of the invincibles.

Fairly straightforward IMO. Bit of debate at centre-half but McGrath was brilliant for Villa. Right back is obvious for me in providing excellent width and shining with two non-Arse/Utd sides. Obviously Lampard could be there and probably should in light of overall contribution. But in the interests of cohesion Silva blends the team together cleaner than another Gerrard/Lampard conundrum. The front three picks itself.

Veron, Laurent Blanc, Lineker & Beardsley also in my squad I think
Appreciating that 'all-time' and 'post-1992' aren't the same thing, but Lineker never played in the Premier League while the other three were all past their best.

Suarez---Shearer--Bale
---Essien-----Lampard
--------Makelele-----
Cole-Terry-McGrath-Petrescu
----------Cech-------

Subs: Yaya, Gerrard, D. Silva, Aguero, Desailly, Kompany, X. Alonso

Yaya's peak season was simply amazing, Xabi was brilliant, Gerrard had 2 great seasons but I went with a proven trio in the end. Desailly/McGrath is a close one, the rest is indisputable

That midfield wouldn't work but I was just getting names in. Drogba very unfortunate to miss out.

Desailly/McGrath is a close one
Desailly was the first name on the team for me, easily the best defender to play in the Prem outside United/Arsenal.

I had to decide between McGrath and Terry and could easily drop Terry. I'm not interested in playing like Jose did with that mid 00s Chelsea team which is the only place Terry has any use. He would have been an absolute liability in a team like United 06-08 or the current City team, for example.

Terry is a must considering the longevity and that my team is basically that Chelsea side with few additions. If we compare their peak level, Desailly and McGrath will run away with it (plus I genuinely like both and Terry is a c**t)

There's no questioning what he achieved but the point is his best only came in a very specific system and the moment he was taken out of it when the manager circus at Chelsea was going on he went to being absolute crap.

Remember his 'tackle' on Milner? That's what he's left with basically as soon as you expose him with a team constantly isolating him and attacking with pace and power.

No doubt he's exceptional with his aerial ability when the whole defense is camped inside the box and the opposition has to resort to pumping in crosses but he's probably one of the worst when taken out of his comfort zone and absolute shits himself time to time. Even during his peak I rated Carvalho higher than him. I actually don't know why I even have him in my team.

Suarez is a tough one. Absolute boss during his last two years in the PL, but I think when he hangs it up, he'll have accomplished enough at Barca so that the consensus is that his peak was there.

FWIW, I think his best year individually is still his last year at Liverpool. Some of the things he did, you'd find hard to do on the Playstation.

I left Desailly out on the basis he was a little past his best by the time he joined Chelsea in 1998 at the age of 30 and the seasons thereafter. At the same time, it speaks volumes obviously that he was selected in the overseas PL team of 1992-2002.

I think most people understand that "All time Prem XI" means the best players throughout the PL's existence, but I'm open to changing the thread title if it's confusing

I'd say his peak as a CB during his club career came at Chelsea. He joined the club after being at the heart of one of the greatest international team defenses ever seen and was pretty much at his prime then. Peaking at 30 isn't really unheard of for a defender.

Edit: And he had some fantastic performances in the PL during his time there. I remember Shearer telling what an absolute nightmare it was playing against him.

Aye I did - way too many attackers  and Suarez because I wanted to play 1 up top - I'd probably prefer Suarez over aguero, but I think in my initial post, I wasn't sure if Suarez was at his peak for long enough in the PL.

But I'm struggling to think of any defenders outside of Arsenal/United - then obviously Chelsea and City. Maybe if Ledley King wasn't ruined by injury.
