Just a thought, can any of you see him being used as defensive midfielder?

What is it with this club and playing players out of position...

I think if we get him it is to have another good footballer in defence who isn't scared of having the ball and moving it forward.

That can be as a partner to Bailly, as a replacement/competitor for Bailly, as an extra option to have for the RB, where he will play is not set in stone but for the love of god don't convert him to another midfielder !

It's been obvious for a while we aren't going to get the experienced head like Bonucci, Godin or Thiago Silva. So it seemed like Gimenez/van Dijk/Lindelof have become the likely options, so if Jose thinks this guy is the guy then ok, he knows his onions when it comes to CB's.

Agree on this, I hope we get to see this tried out. I actually wouldn't be looking for a centre back at this moment in time, I'd see out the season with what we've got and then assess things. If it ain't broke and all that...

In the same breath though I trust Jose as far as transfers, so if he wants him, as the intensifying rumours say he does, then I'd be optimistic of Lindelof's chances of being a good addition.

I don't understand this, RB isn't his natural position. For the national team he has played as RCB which is also a reason I don't understand why this makes sense since we have Bailly there.

Thought this was just another Portuguese made up rumour. Very interesting to see which defenders leave in January now as I don't think we could add one without one leaving.

I guess that Mourinho is looking for a decade long partnership of Bailly and Lindelof-same age I think. Both are more right sided so will be interesting to see who takes the LCB position.

Wouldn't call it "out of position". He started his professional career as a RB and still has the ability to be really good as a RB. I would say he's got two regular positions.

It would be so bizarre for me if this thing is really happening. I got two clubs in my heart and this could wind up with one of them saving the other one (my local swedish one) from bankruptcy.

Started his professional playing career as RB, was in team of the season as an RB(i know that can be a little deceptive) but mourinho has always liked centre halves playing at full back that includes ivanovic and ramos and also William Gallas. Him being a cb and rb makes me think the same. Mou has always liked specialist at CB hence why i think he will be our RB next season unless he is doing damn good at cb this season.

Don't know much about this guy but I trust Mourinho's judgement.

Smalling, Rojo and Jones aren't good enough to get us back to where we need to be long term.

2 of those 3 are good back up options. I would expect one of Rojo/Jones to leave in the summer. Probably Rojo.

The DailyStar are reporting a double deal, referencing A Bola saying that agreement in January for Semedo but let him finish out the season there first. So presume that Lindelof not bought as a RB but as a CB.

Presume we have a buyer for Darmian and possibly one other defender on way out-Smalling? Rojo? Blind?

Might worry about the aerial prowess of that particular partnership. Given Bailly's weakness in that regard, he really needs to be paired with someone who will win everything in the air for him.

Not such a bad idea to get two players used to playing right next to each other either. Wonder if Zlatan has had a word with Lindelof and got recommendation from him on Semedo too.

I don't remember him ever playing as DM in the first team. He played there in the Benfica B on occasion. I wouldn't know if he's good enough at DM to play for United.

Do Benfica use Zonal Marking? What's the fan's reaction on Lindelof and possibly Semedo leaving?

Wonder which defender is leaving in the summer. If the rumours are true then Jose must really rate him, must see world class potential in him and that's very exciting.
