Top scorer in World Cup history goes in R6
And some absolute gems are still unpicked.

To be fair, most of the forwards that were picked before Klose can be argued to be more talented/complete/threatening

I'd also argue that some of the unpicked forwards would also be as good as, if not better, than Klose. Then again, it depends on what strategy a manager would want to pursue.

True and there are still some who are more complete and ones who can be the main man.

In my team however I already had the attacking players who are going to be the main men and do most of the things, and it was a no brainer to add a clinical all round finisher who also brought the technical ability to bring others into play with his selflessness and professionalism. Felt he was the right man to complete that attack.

Same but there are are also worse players then him that got picked before him :)
Depends a lot on formation and how they will be utilized. With that being said tho he's one of the best fits for Aldo for those who are left. Streltsov, Bala, Piksi - all provide plenty of creativity from outside the box, he needed a fox in the box there and creative players playing off him and engaging defenders. Good fit.

Love Zhirkov pick btw, my favorite player from that 2008 team. Sadly a huge idiot off the pitch, but it seems to be a norm for most of the Russian footballers. Having peak Cashley to compete with is also a very tough job

Love that 2008 team, in fact i love all the players bar the ones who got most credit/hype:lol: Zhirkov was a priority as we badly needed a left wingback and that pool is pretty damn small!
Russians are funny, it seems everyone goes to shit the minute they cross the boarder, specially post 90 generations. Luckily the crap mentality is common for everyone in the pool so that wont be an issue.

That's the point. Or, more like it, completely unkown quantities.

What are your views about the current teams?
Some are stockpiling players I never heard of at an alarming rate. It will be very difficult to compare and we will certainly have very low voting turnouts.

It's a funny one because in early rounds sometimes they get a free pass (that's what a Klose, Matic or Rosicky won't get) but when there's too many of them, rinse and repeat over many games, eventually if the other team has more players you are familiar with you are inclined to vote based on what you DO know.

In short, if you are facing a team with many household names (better or not) try get it done as early as possible before the novelty factor wears off.

The pre-war guys are really hard to rate, at least for me. A lot of players are described as the original Maldini's or Messi's and having almost supernatural powers and not many weaknesses mentioned.

With little footage and not many independent reports it's very hard to compare them to the contemporary players, not to mention positions, roles etc.

I tend to go for players I know/heard of/watched and research on them and then pick them, but if I know and watched more of player B(although less rated in terms of historical stature) I'd tend to go for the latter.

Case in point was Da Guia as mentioned in this thread as well. I've seen him being talked up for being top 10-20 CB's of all time, yet from the scarce highlights and dubious reports I just can't rate him above some post-war players.

Pre-war players are just boring: if you're lucky you might have meaningless stats, otherwise some quotes like 'The player RedCafenowić who played with him in the 30s says he was a mix of Cruyjff and Beckenbauer'

I'd agree with that. The striker pool is very deep at the top end.

I seem to have missed the Da Guia meltdown, anyone can point me in the right direction? He was very highly rated by sources that knew their shit TBH.

Actually feck it, I pick Grzgeorz Khrycrowiak. Obviously he has faired pretty badly since moving to psg, but he was an absolute beast for Sevilla and for Poland in the Euros.

On my phone so could someone update the list? Thanks
