Sad news :(

Someone very close to me was sectioned many years back - it was an extremely tough time. Hope Lennon gets through it quickly.

Constant stress is a horrible horrible thing to feel, I know it too well and don't wish it on anyone.

This is a bit out of nowhere!

Wish him all the best and hope somebody like him and in his position can overcome it and maybe raise awareness too.

Sad news.

Good luck to him and another example of how wealth can't always buy you happiness and contentment.

I used to hate having to watch our left back deal with him. On his day he was a real handful. This is really sad news. I hope he can get the help he needs.

A real decent winger I thought, genuinely though for a little while around 10 years ago we would be in for him.
Get better soon!

I bet we are all think, Christ he must be loaded . What has he got to worry about. Imagine the stress if you have a couple of kids no job and no money Trying to keep them fed and clothed. Just goes to show that anybody from prince to pauper can suffer mental problems. Good luck Aaron and god bless you. Get well soon

Hard for sportspeople coming to the end of their career as it has been everything for so long.

The older footballers never experienced that sort of thing because they never made enough money to retire after playing. I worked with an ex Everton player who was also a Scottish international with quite a few caps. He was well into his 50s and working as a mechanical fitter. He enjoyed his playing career but made next to sod all money wise.

Fecking Daily Mail adding Lennon's wages to the tweet about this.
Yeah it's a bit scummy to do that. I don't really think papers should be allowed to report on the situation (definitely not name him) regardless of putting wages there. Doesn't really seem like it would help anyone.

The only positive about that is that fans, "normal people", kids might find it easier to be open about mental health issues when they see that it's something their idol suffers from as well.

Yeah that's the counter argument and I'd hope if Lennon decided to do that in the future he got support from his peers which I'm sure he would. Just seems a bit harsh to not let him do it on his terms and instead the papers rush to report the story. The likes of Rio Ferdinand have opened up about mental health issues on their own terms so it seems a bit unfair and not really helpful to anyone at the moment to give Lennon that chance.

My old youth worker and long standing football friend had been sectioned earlier this year with diagnosed schizophrenia. He is being medicated and not sure if and when he will be released. He was never a danger to us at football or to himself but was very delusional about his kids, couldn't hold a job, etc. Did your colleague/friend ever come out of sectioning?
