I can't recall exactly, but I think it was after the Arsenal game.

I still think most of the first team should be risked in the Southampton game, since it actually might be the closest resemblance game to Ajax's we'll have, and they do still need to stretch their legs.
Valencia and Herrera need a long rest before the final IMO, they look very tired and single match rest isn't helping them. Risking Pogba when all our play depends on him is too risky but I can give him a game against South to be fresh, same for Rashford.

Are you saying those players shouldn't have a competitive game for 13 days, really?

Jose seems totally has given up on 4th!
That's not right IMO we can take it to the last day if we can win our next 2,no?
I'm with you, rest who needs to be rested maybe, but lets put out the best team possible, and at least try and take this top 4 chance as long we can, stranger things have happened.

Ajax won't have a competitive game before the final for 10 days, they will finish the league on 14 May then rest 10 days preparing for the final. If our players aren't fresh enough, they will outplay us as what South did in EFL cup final when they got 15 days of rest and preparation and the rest were more fresher side than us.

So yes some players need to get enough rest to match Ajax freshness in the final.

Play a weak team and go toe to toe with them. Last thing Jose should do in a game with as little importance is force the fans through another 90 minutes of defending. Think we'll get battered either way so we may as well make it entertaining.

Bailly playing in the PL games now as he misses the EL Final ? Or do Jones and Smalling need games to get match fit for the Ajax game. Spurs will want to put on a show and will look to put in a real performance. I'm trying to be optimistic but if United get a point from this game I will be surprised.
I would not play Smalling or Jones until the final. They're two players most likely to be injured and we have zero first team backup outside of Blind. We could end up playing 3 at the back vs Ajax.

Smalling and especially Jones need game time for fitness. I would givw them minutes tomorrow, Southampton and then rest against Palace. I think in the final we will play a back for of Valencia, Smalling, Blind and Darmian.

Jones will go off with an injury tomorrow. It has been told.

They'll be flat, very flat. They've just lost what they've been building towards and chasing for months, for 2 years in fact.

We can go there and beat them. There's no reason why we can't employ the counter attacking tactics and play much better than against Arsenal.

The likes of Jones, Smalling, Mata will be sharper after some game time, some of the squad has been rested, we don't have the cup final for a week and a half, I expect a rotated but strong side to go up against them.

Don't presume we will get beat, they will be flat having lost the league, and emotional with leaving WHL.

Our last game that we should be playing all of our best players, or maybe rotating a bit with the soton game in a few days time.

Guys like smalling, jones, mata, martial need match sharpness and the next 2 games are their last chance of getting a start in the europa league final.

Glad and hopeful we'll see 3 games for tuanzebe now. Shame fosu-mensah is out as he will see a lot of action now.

Palace should be all about the reserves players.

Southampton midweek is the game for that.

Valencia hasn't travelled and Pogba is another one that won't play. So we know this isn't going to happen. I think we will play a semi weak side.

After yesterday's results, it simply isn't happening.

We would need both Arsenal and Pool to mess up and they have games against teams with zero to play for.

Are people that scared of us losing the Europa league final? If we lose that, what's to say we wouldn't have lost the qualifier.

Agree. We lost against Arsenal, one of our direct competitors. That simply has ended any chance that we have. Don't let mathematics fool you, guys.

The aim is to avoid two things in this game: injuries and an embarassing loss. Anything else is ok.

No, but I'm just not buying into the line that we should play all the kids, and rest everyone for the next three prem games.

Yes the chances are slim, but if West Ham beat Liverpool today, and Arsenal draw against Everton on the last day, then I'd like us to have at least given it a proper go.

But if we are going to qualify through the Europa league, why bother with this one then?

If you honestly do believe we will win the final.

I fear a battering here if Spurs decide to put on a show for their WHL farewell. Bailly might play now as he is suspended for the Europa, I'm wondering if maybe it will be back 3 of him, Smalling and Jones or possibly Jones in DM beside Carrick.
Whatever the selection today, if United manage a draw I think that would be enough really. As a lot of others have said in this thread, I'm not really looking forward to this game at all.
Obviously I hope I am way off the mark but I went for 3-0 Spurs in the Score Prediction League.

The team will be ludicrously defensive, if Herrera's rested then the midfield will probably be Jones, Carrick and Rooney which is fecking nightmarish. We might sneak out with a 1-0 loss if everything goes to plan.

It's a one off game, against a side full of young, obviously talented players I don't really know alot about, so whilst I am not 'scared', I am certainly not for one second saying we will 100 % win it, that would be daft beyond belief given the way we have played this season, good chance yes, nailed on, no way.

So why not at least give these last three games a go, and see where it takes us, we can still rest players whilst still giving ourselves a chance, the way some people talk they'd rather we just didn't bother.

    It's just two games though.

Jose has already that we would rest against Palace if we are in the final.

With our luck with injuries, we are likely to get a serious injury in one of these pointless games.

Also a playing a high energy side like Ajax, we need all the rest we can get. They only have one game left.

In the grand scheme of things it's a completely irrelevant match. Hopefully it'll at least be entertaining

This. There is literally no point in not resting players now.

I think we can handle Spurs. We dealt with their pressing quite well in this fixture last season. Only got undone by an unforgettable performance from the bench by Darmian.

I'd play Pogba despite the obvious risk, if he feels up to it.

    1-1.

Looking forward to seeing what Mourinho pulls out of the bag. Be nice to watch a game where there's no stress if we go 1-0 down.

It'll be fun to spoil the party but if we don't then ah well, we just look ahead.
