It's really sad that a select few are going to use this game as a stick to beat Mourinho with. If he went all out in the PL and we accumulated more injuries, that could jeopardise our Europa League final chances. He just can't win.

There's no way they can't understand the logic, they just want to drive their agendas against Jose.
I really am baffled at the fact people are questioning why we've rested players. We've played a lot of games this season, it's better to have the players physically fit. I fail to understand their logic. This is a meaningless game, why risk the players?

4:0 scoreline in the other two games today
Yesterday Arsenal also won by a big margin, so our closest competitors are absolutely hammering the opposition. Meanwhile, we struggle to score a goal.
Ibra and perhaps Mata excepted, our attackers are terrible and hopefully this Summer we will buy 2 attackers, considering that Ibra won't be back till next Winter.
The likes of Mata, Martial and Miki will all have to prove themselves next season. If they perform next season, like they did this season, they'll probably all be out, if we get a decent price.
For each of our attackers to score about 5 goals per season, is absolutely shocking. That's what you expect from the attackers of a side battling relegation!

Whether we win or lose I'd love Martial or Mata to score, be a great boost for confidence and we need that at an all time high going into the final.

On another note, really sad we didn't bring CBJ back in January, he looked good last season and had a hell of a cross on him playing in a position we've been weak in so far this season. Hope Mourinho gives him a chance next season considering Shaw's turned into a bit of a sick note.

Jesus. Pogba's father has just passed away, he is not there. Rashford is our most important player right now with Ibra injured and needs wrapping in cotton wall, then comes Valencia and Herrera who are also important. Jones, and Smalling need game time. Carrick and Rooney are our second string. Line up is fine
Just got in - don't tell me people are unhappy with our line up?! It's a meaningless game!

    YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
Why are we playing this kid in midfield? Might as well play a real midfielder from the youth sides here if we aren't bothered about losing this one?

Clearly we need Europa Cup more and it makes sense. Used to be a three point banker this ground. Let's finish it with a bang :keano:

Valencia and Ander look really tired as well so not only would it be a risk, they probably won't play as well as the fresh players.

I know complaining about line-ups is standard but pretty much the only criticism anyone could rationally aim at today's lineup would be if it was too strong. Playing Smalling, Jones and Mata is arguably a bit rash but I guess they need games after being out injured so long?
Yeah as I said I probably would play Mitchell, the rest of the line-up is pretty much picked itself.

It's an awkward one as it might just show how bad our youngsters are as well. That won't help them. This might just prove that Carrick and Rooney need replacing, especially Rooney. Carrick could have a limited use.
Yeah the U23 we have pretty bad apart from the ones out on loan.

The key thing for me today is no injuries and match fitness for Smalling, Jones and Mata.

Absolutely, the U23's season is almost done, Smalling, Jones and Mata need game time now as they will all be part of the squad for the Europa final. Make sense to play them all

The final is in 10 days. I don't have an issue with key players being rested, but what is the point in persisting with Carrick and Rooney? They are totally finished. Play the youngsters instead.
Because they've both given the club great service and deserve a game? They're also both better players than whatever youngster might replace them. Right now, anyway.

Fair shout. I presume Jose was apprehensive about two youngsters at full back against the 2nd best side in the league. Also might want to avoid a John Curtis effect.

Just saw that lineup. Carrick Rooney midfield! That won't work even against Swansea or Middlesbrough let alone one of the most fierce midfields in the PL.

Also, this is their last match at the Lane. They will come at us with everything, and looks like we have given them the easiest of midfields to overcome.

They love to press and Rooney and Carrick just can't handle that. A youth player would have been better. Maybe Mourinho will do that if we do down by a goal or two at half time, something that looks very likely. Really disappointing. Rooney mostly looks gassed just after 10 min or so. How is he going to halde intensity like that. Impossible.

Don't see us winning this. I was thinking that we would field mostly youth or at least two youth players but don't think such things happen under Mourinho.

So, it is going to be 10 men behind the ball, lose it, then they come back, we hoof again till we concede and then some lame attacking attempts form us. Nothing much to to look forward to.

If Tottenham start quick it could get ugly. That being said some players getting valuable mins out there today to build up fitness. Hope Mata is in the number 10 hole

Until Arsenal game, we had been picking about up countelss injuries and stupid suspensions. Before the ship was steadied, Baily goes and gets himself a red card. I swear United team is under some voodoo curse spell. So I am happy the important players are rested after what was a very challenging game against Vigo. After this game, I guss, we have two more EPL games to go so I would expect a bettet lineup in the penultimate EPL game and again a very weak team in the final PL game. Makes total sense.

All 3 of these are out of form, because they have just come from injuries.
They need as much game time as possible.

Why not just play every center back we have available. This should be a fun watch.

I'm going all Roy Keane but we are Man Utd and we should NEVER put out such a dogshit team like that for any competitive game. I wouldn't even expect us to put out that team in a preseason friendly. I'm happy tuanzabe is getting more minutes though.

I know we've got the final coming up but For a club of our stature with the money spent these last few years it is embarrassing which ever way you look at it.
Am I missing something? This looks like a pretty good team to me considering we're resting players. No youngsters apart from Tuanzebe means Jose is still taking this seriously.

Walker dropped? Hopefully we've tapped him up for the summer.

Hope I am wrong, but I can see this being a hanging on, trying to keep the score respectable type of game.

    Losing to Comeback Winning!
Tuanzebe starting again yess  5 at the back then, or Tuanzebe CDM but I doubt that (we'll see soon) defensive and counter attack with pace.

    De Gea
    Tuanzebe---Jones---Bailly---Smalling---Blind
    Carrick
    Mata---Rooney
    Lingard---Martial

    Sub: Mitchell, McTominay
:devil:Going to be Mitchel's debut. Wow, Jose is throwing all these academy youngsters against Arsenal and Totenham so far. Impressive. Testing their limits eyh.

Shades of starting the defender 2-deep versus Arsenal in the cup. Some highly unlikely scorer then: Axel...maybe Wayne...

Mourinho basically saying that the players should be treating these remaining PL games as an audition for a place in the starting XI of the final.
