Wayne Rooney - Manchester United Legend

I know there are a lot of people disliking constant Rooney threads (it will probably stop now that he's leaving us). There are a lot of posters constantly going about making some childish jokes about how he belongs in a drive through, or is a constant liability, etc.

I would rather celebrate his career with us than remember him as a liability. He was beyond great for over a decade, I'm sure posters would prefer to celebrate that rather than allow for the last 2-3 seasons to take over the memories.

Being the top goalscorer for this club is a massive, massive feat.

Many here won't like him, but maybe his departure now will make people respect him as what he is - a club legend.

So many great memories and achievements. Becoming the greatest goalscorer for the club is outstanding, and glad I witnessed it in my life time.

The bicycle kick against City will always stand out as one of the most iconic moments in Premier League (along with the celebration) and would much prefer to remember him for this along with the other spectacular goals rather than the player who asked to leave twice or the player who he became in the last 5 years.

Nobody can deny that he was a great player for us. Becoming our all time leading goalscorer is a great achievement.
However Alot of people will always remember the times he wanted to leave utd, and the decline in his performances for united.
For me, I'll be glad to see him go because I feel he's been stuck in a rut and he needs to move away to try rekindle his career. It's Alot of money to have sat on the bench bot knowing what Wayne Rooney your gonna get when you bring him on. This move is in the best interest of both Rooney and the club.

Not taking anything away from his achievements but to be honest, he wouldn't have got a better package at any other club. We were always his best option.

He spent most of his United career under our greatest ever manager, Sir Alex, was playing during a time where we were winning almost everything, managed to play at a club which were was a stones throw from where he grew up and had the luxury of us being able to pay him the best wages.

What were his other options? Go abroad? I always felt Rooney wasn't the type who could settle abroad and he knew that, so that was never really an option. In the end its more a case of, we were the best option available to him rather than him staying because he loved United. He would have gone if the other options were better. Not a club legend for me.

Anyone who says he isn't a club legend or football legend is just trying to take the piss. 250+ goals for us, 50+ goals for England, definitely going to get 200+ PL goals by the time he retires, won everything there is to win at a club level.
I mean, if it's just the transfer requests because of which we aren't ready to brand him a legend, then very few would ever be classified as legends- including guys like CR7, RVN.

From his debut all the way to the end of the 11-12 season I thought he was brill. Bar a few moments of magic here and there after, he's been a pain to watch but that doesn't negate all he's achieved here. Even after the past 5 or so years of painful viewing I've always liked him.

I'll look back on his time here with fondness more than annoyance, and appreciate how much success he helped bring us in one of our best periods ever.

I have been following United since 1999. He is the best forward that I've watched. We had better goal scorers like Ruud and Yorke of course. But Rooney was, on his prime, a better player. He is a legend for sure. He was an incredible team player. He could have been a lot better and he should have been a better player now but this is a day of appreciation. I just feel sad because this is the closure of a fantastic period. From Saha, Vida, Rio, Evra and all the way to Rooney, these generation of players has been incredible servants to this club. I know we still have Carrick but I don't think he will play much at all.

Goodbye Wayne. You were incredible. I will always appreciate that incredible debut against one of the teams I hate the most, those lightning quick counter attacks in 07, those switching positions with Tevez & Ronaldo and terrorizing the opponents, that left back performance against Barca, those headers in 2010, that overhead kick and countless other memories that I can not type now. I will remember and appreciate them all.

Memories

He's been great for us, no doubt. He stayed a few seasons too long because of fecking Moyes and his golden handcuffs but now we know he's leaving we can look back at the good stuff.

All-time top scorer for us and won the lot in terms of trophies. Thanks for everything Wayne.

If there are any United-fans who wont applaud him when he returns with Everton - they should find a new sport, it's that simple. Yeah - he was poor the last 2 seasons, but he gave us close to 10 brilliant seasons - and he deserves to be applauded for all he has done for this club. And sure - I don't forget that stunt he pulled when asking for a transfer, but Ferguson talked some sense into him and that was that really.

People have valid reasons to dislike Rooney but he has always been my favorite player ever since I was a fan of United. I just love watching him play, for many reasons. His departure from the club really dampens my mood, makes me feel like my connection with United (or more accurately the good old United) was further diminished. Oh well, out with the old in with the new I guess, though I wish I could feel the same affection for some current United player, but I just can't find myself bother.

With Wayne leaving Carrick is now the only player left from our dream team of 2006-09. I was 13 when we signed him so it's like he's always been there. It makes me sad that time's past by so quickly. It's gonna be weird to watch Utd without Rooney after all this time and to not have media always asking 20 questions about him every press conference.

A young angry Rooney was difficult to contain. Hell of a shot on him like Mark Hughes.

Sad to see him go. He is an United legend, nobody can take that from him and on his day he was electric, a menace, deadly strike, full of energy and all out commitment.
