Horrible news. Hope they caught it at an early stage and he can recover.
I was just thinking about Tom yesterday and how I enjoyed reading his posts on here, such sad news. Stay strong Tom! A proper United fan, he puts a lot of us "experts" to shame. I wish him all the best with his recovery.

Excuse my ignorance, but who is Tom Clare?
From what I have seen here, he's written a few books - done a good few interviews with people involved in th club - giving insight to the club from past to present. Dedicated to the cause.
Just a very nice and knowledgeable genuine fan. Anytime he posted here, people did automatically click on the post as they saw his name. Very insightful

I'm 22 and found out a month ago I've got Hodgkin's lymphoma as I began feeling its effects (unaware at the time) at the start of the new year. Been healthy my entire life and just came out of the blue. No way to detect it and it comes randomly which really put life into perspective for me. If it was non-hodgkins lymphoma, doc says I'd have been a goner in 3 months time. Starting chemo on Monday for what will be a 6 month camp. Fortunately one of the most beatable cancers out there sitting at 90% success rate. Hoping for the best just as for Tom :]

...and tbh, I'm just glad treatment begins after United's season opener. Let's me watch the game in peace and gives some time to recover from the effects before the 2nd game

My mother was diagnosed with throat cancer, which was caught rather late in it's development, yet here we are 2 years on and she's as strong as ever. The cancer has been in remission for 6 months now, with no signs of reappearing. She is a genuine inspiration.

Not the ideal situation or one I ever thought of but still feel very fortunate compared to others in the world who have much more severe conditions. I play a ton of sports like hockey, tennis, football (both European and American
), practice mma, and I've never been one to be short of breath. Start of the year for the first time in my life I did and kinda had a feeling something wasn't right. Even while running long distances which I do regularly throughout the week I just couldn't maintain my pace like I used to and began coughing. The coughing progressively got worse over the next few months to the point where I couldn't even complete sentences without catching my breath. Like I said I've been healthy my entire life and was just hoping the cough and shortness of breath would get better over time like anything that come up has for me (was a bit stubborn of me in that sense). And then one night I coughed blood momentarily at which point I was like oh shit, this is serious and I can't push it aside any longer. Went to the doctors the next morning, got the chest x-rayed and that's when we discovered there are 2 masses (aka tumours...just a lot scarier term lol) on the right side of my chest/one in the lung, one outside; makes sense considering the random shortage of breath I started feeling while playing or running. Had a biopsy done to find out for certain what it was and thankfully it's hodgkins and not non-hodgkins. Didn't want to do chemo at all but have to with no other options to consider (naturopathic stuff not viable for a cure either although I have begun taking those supplements for overall better health). Surgery not possible due to lymph nodes being spread out across my whole chest/neck/shoulders so it's impossible to pick apart each and every thing.
And here I stand 36 or so hours away from chemo now. Gonna be a draining and demoralizing process with the chemo kamikaze-ing everything in sight (cancer cells + regular/good cells) but I'm going to attempt to remain as active as possible within my limits to counteract its tiring effects. Hoping it'll be one-and-done, cancer cells be gone, and the ones lost in the friendly fire regrow back again as they are supposed to after the 6 months. And likewise, wish the best and nothing but the best for Tom and his battle as well. Just kick its fecking ass mate!

So happy you are winning so far keep the fight going. I'm similar but not with such good odds. I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer I got told last Friday 2-3 months at best I'm 40 and two kids so still devastated for them. I've been a season ticket holder for a season and this year also I have 2 (me and a mate) my boy asked me if we can still go to old Trafford this season he's only 8 so I'm trying to go to the Leicester game I'm going to contact the club see if I can get two more tickets for my wife and wee girl also so the four of can go as she would need to be there to help me. Hopefully the club can get us sitting next to each other. If anyone can help I can obviously offer them any game as a swap as I won't be going to anymore unfortunately x
