So Herrera doesn't get any minutes again. He will not be happy.

Hard to see him starting when we played so well in the 4-2-3-1. He might come off the bench but Swansea aren't a team that will necessitate us putting in an extra midfielder from the start.

Think it'll be a midfield three of Herrera, Matic and Pogba against Swansea.

With the swans only able to get 4 shots and 0 on goal against the Saints, and Southampton registering 29 shots against Swansea, I like how this one stacks up..

I was telling my boys that I love having Mkhitaryan, Mata and Pogba all 3 in the lineup due to their sublime touches and ability to pick out a deadly pass. I think we may add some extra speed and reward Martial for his performance next week. We'll see...

Although I must admit that Swansea always plays us well.

    DDG
    Valencia Bailly Jones Darmian
    Matic
    Rashford Pogba Mkhitaryan Martial
    Lukaku

So many of these lineups lacking Mata when it's painfully obvious he is vital to our free flowing attacking football. When he doesn't play, we're static and negative. It's that simple.

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Jones Blind
    Matic Pogba
    Mata Mkhi Martial
    Lukaku

Bench: Herrera, Rashford, Fellaini, Romero, Smalling, Darmian, Carrick.

Rashford did well today but I felt Martials earned himself a start in those last ten minutes. A goal and an assist and he could have probably got another assist if Lukaku got that hat trick.

Our performance at the Liberty Stadium last year was one of our best of the season. Hoping for a repeat!

I watched Swansea play Saints. Abraham looked dangerous in the air and they defended fairly well, but they created very little and were lucky to grab a point. They looked stronger in the air than on the ground defensively, I thought, so I'd probably start Mata again on the right, even if it's 4-3-3 this time with Herrera starting in place of Mkhitaryan. Britton had issues with pressing and is 34 and tiny, so my guess is he won't start against us. Ayew worked hard but didn't look like creating anything and Routledge just isn't much of a threat even though he looks okay out there.

    We should really batter them.

    Martial - Pogba - Mata

    Herrera - Matic

    Blind - Jones - Bailly - Valencia

    De Gea
Could go with Mkhi instead of Mata

Bring Rashford off the bench as a super sub the way we used Martial today and let him run at tired defenders this time.

Mkhi started the last two games and almost played the entire 90 mins. Mata came off around the 65 min I think. Mata did well. We might need 3 in midfield since its a tricky opponent away from home.

This is true. I didn't consider how many minutes Mkhi had played recently

Would like us to try both Martial and Rashford on the wings while it is still early.

We battered these when we came here last season. Hopefully that first game can give us some confidence and we get the job done here.

    2-0 us. Lukaku x2

It's time to take some risk......pragmatic Jose show them what you've got ! Show them your offensive side like Chelsea & Real......

    It's now or never !

    De Gea
    Valencia--Bailly--Jones--Blind
    Matic--Pogba
    Rashford--Mkhitaryan--Martial
    Lukaku

I am going for 4-0 again. Caf melt"up" coming soon...

Caf meltdown if they don't see Martial in starting XI...

P/S: it's really good to see no/minimal Lingard/Fellaini in starting XI prediction here lol

I never feel confident against Swansea, no idea why. I can see Jose going with a 3 men midfield and Lukaku, Mhkitaryan and Rashford/Martial upfront

Really impressed with them performance yesterday. It might have taken Jose a season but he now realises that you don't need an extra defensive midifielder in the home games and we basically played a 4411 with the full backs pushing on. Loads of movement with the front 6 as well all feeding off a strong fast no 9 who was looking to make runs in behind the defence.

I totally understand if he wants to go more 433 away from home but the template for home games has been set and hopefully a fruitful season awaits fingers crossed.

Just rotation. He is our backup striker at this point. So its better to keep fresh at least till Zlatan comes back. Plus its a case of rewarding Martial since he scored a goal and assisted another if not his confidence will be shot.
Best players need to play, so fresh into the season we shouldn't be worried about rotation. Keep Rashford starting because he's simply better than Martial right now and has been for at least 6 months. Martial can also play the #9 and last season Jose showed he's willing to play him there if needed.

So your idea of a risk is moving Rashford to the right? You're living life on the edge, makesure you don't slip off.

Well its probably to do with us actually having a defensive midfielder this season. He trusts Matic, he didn't the rest.

It'll be interesting to see if José dares to go for the Matic - Pogba midfield in an away game. I'd love to see it, but the realist in me says José will put an extra body in there, so Herrera or Fellaini. It will be harsh on whoever of the attacking midfield trio misses out, probably Mata. Plenty of games this season though, I don't think anyone will be particularly starving for minutes this season.

One thing I've learned from frequenting this forum over the last few years is that when you guys are all optimistic about a match we go and lose or feck it up, so will you all tone it down a little? Thanks.

Also we're gonna win like 6-0.

    I'm thinking this:-
    Dave
    Tony V --- Bailly --- Jones --- Blind
    Matic
    Pogba --- Herrera
    Mikhi ----------------- Rashford
    Lukaku
I agree we could go 4-3-3 when away from home, I think the team is set up for this right now, Mata and Herrera will swap in/out depending on how attacking/defensive we want to be. That said Mata could start instead of Mikhi on the right, still unsure about that.

Mourinho's one of the most consistent managers when it comes to team selection if there are no injuries or suspensions. Therefore, I'm quite certain we'll see the same team at the Liberty Stadium. We should dominate them away as we dominated West Ham at home, their midfield looks like shit and Southampton should've won easy.

Would love to see Martial start over Mata though.

If Sigurdsson isn't playing this should be easy for United.

I would expect a scrappy win (2-1) but I won't lose my hair over a draw if needs be.

Micky had a brilliant game and shouldn't be dropped. Best eye for an assist in the team.
And Herrera had the most assists last season. Mkhitaryan was good, but he's far from having an eye for assists (here).

No need to drop either Rashford or Mata. Martial will get his chance eventually.

Mkhi underperformed last season based on his Dormund form, which most players new to this league do in their first season. Herrera doesn't strike me as someone who can be relied on creatively. He's more a terrier for me, who's main role is being a pain in the arse for the opposition. Not saying he isn't technical at all though, he's a good all round footballer.

I can see 3 at the back with Martial wide and Rashford to partner Lukaku. Just go for the throat and develop that killer mentality

Jose will be wary of Lorente's aerial strength so I can't see him going into this without Smalling. Think we'll switch to 3-5-2 for this.
